I really liked the beginning of the intro - the mum pushing her shopping trolley along an ugly grey concrete path beside a motorway. The mum looks across to her house through the traffic and sees her eldest daughter reading to the two younger ones in their yard. The three children are surrounded by washing on a line, graffiti, and a broken car. A broken wire fence is the only thing that separates them from the noise and dust of the cars on the motorway. Horrible environment to raise kids in.
@atozinco a little further back down the motorway from where that was filmed ,my auntie bought up her kids in Otara ,right amongst the gangs and other shit. Today her mokopuna are world wide and a credit to the whole family. The movie was so true it hurts to tow watch it ,even now , years later. Kia kaha e nah! Maori!
In this version of Auckland, you can look across the motorway from Ellerslie to Otara!
