I think in this it's suspended in 50/50 alcohol (as has been suggested on other videos and sites).

@endr117 theres different grades of ferrofluid. The publicly sold version from Ferrotec ( which is in most of the vids) is very sensitive and the lowest commercial quality . took me a long time to get a working non-stick suspension liquid with a shelf life.
