  • Can we please stop comparing shawn and nastia? they are both amazing gymnasts.

  • So excited she's making a comeback! Good Luck Nastia! :)

  • I believe that Nastia and Shawn are equals...Nastia excels in her fluid and graceful jumps, and shows very clean and percise with her routines, but lacks power. Shawn excels in tumbling, and will always have the DD on her side, unlike Nastia, but Shawn lacks the grace that Nastia exhibits in her routines. But put them on the same team, and we are a force to be reckoned with.

  • Honestly, nastia is better than shawn overall.

  • @MissPriss769 no way, they are both some of the best, and what they do is almost impossible, but what shawn does takes more skill and is riskier, Nastia is very graceful and fluid, but doesn't seem to take the risks that shawn does.

  • Holy shit! Nastia is from America? She is not human! She a rubber band ! Amazing! Yeah, she was cheated . When are people going to stop mixing politics and get down to bussiness with real sports! She won it fair and square! Return Nastia, we want to see you more!

  • nastia was cheatedd out of her gold :/

  • How the hell did Shawn win??? ridiculous:>(

  • Where are the deductions? haha

  • She is my favorite gymnast! I hope she does come back

  • @missyakamagenta She is :)

  • shut up narrator

  • I lover Nastia on bean, she is just so graceful compared to all the others.

  • Nastia... Has always been on top.

  • @SmileBeautyDebz It's a switch split leap with half turn

  • nastia´s routine is very beautiful but not very difficult, she doesnt do a single back flip, shawn does a full twisting backflip from standing, a back layout and a back from standing, thats why she won, her routine is more difficult!!!!!!!!!

  • @JorgeVABG

Yes. Still, Nastia's leaps make up the difference in difficulty a bit.

  • Who was bronze? =)) In beam..........

  • @DakotaJane1994 Cheng Fei

  • That sheep jump is beautiful

  • the guy orgasmed at 2:48

  • I love how everyone is commenting all over this video on how bad Shawn is, this is NASTIAS video so leave Shawn out of it. But while we're on the subject why don't you guys stop spending your time bashing people who are better than you will ever be, and clearly deserve to be where they are because if they weren't good enough, they wouldn't be there. So unless you have an Olympic gold around your neck, i really don't think you're in any position to judge. Leave them alone, they never did anything

  • @laurelgardner14 THANK YOU. someone had to say that. both Shawn and Nastia are Olympic champions, because they both worked hard and have tremendous skill, and they both play to their individual strengths.

  • does anyone else think she has hyperextended knees?? look at 2:46-2:48

  • Amazing!!

  • its a shame a beautiful routine like this comes BEHIND shawn johnson.

  • ahhh i remember how small she was in the movie stick it ;(

  • nastia is just the perfect formed gymnast! she is so amazing and gracefull!

  • If she had stuck her dismount she would have won gold!

  • She's like a spiderX)

    A graceful spider

  • shawn is short ... that is the only reason she may not look skinny but if you put her next to nastia or another gymnast she is just as thin

  • @hoopsnyoyo15 Well, BMI-wise, Nastia is significantly thinner than Shawn. At the time of the Olympics, they were the same weight, and Nastia had about 6 inches on Shawn. But, you're right: Shawn is not in any way big.

  • Simply amazing.

  • i think nastia felt bad for shawn not getting any gold and she decided to take that hop at the end and give the gold to shawn because she already had one because that was jst a flawless routine!!

  • @TheGymnast320 That's not a nce thing to say. Shawn deserved her gold, she was better than Nastia. Plus Nastia was overscored so...

  • @Missnewyork28

Shawn was just as overscored, if not more.

  • @Missnewyork28 not at all are you blind. did you see that routine! the only mistake was the hop at the end so idk what your talking about when you say she was overscored

  • @TheGymnast320 right:)...

  • I don't think Nastia and Shawn should be compared. They are both very different and amazing gymnasts. Nastia is more artistic and Shawn is a power gymnast. And by the way, for everyone who says that Shawn isn't flexible- She always reaches full splits in her jumps and of course she's flexible- she's an Olympic gymnast! She is probably a lot more flexible than most people out there. But anyways Nastia and Shawn are both wonderful.

  • @abbythegymnast98

Shawn Johnson rarely hits 180 degrees, she also cheats her hips ...

  • @FlicTuckFull I have one question: Not being rude or arguing, but explain how you can cheat in leaps?

  • @abbythegymnast98 Her hips are not square but it's not a deduction generally. Lots of gymnasts actually do their leaps this way

  • @Missnewyork28 oh! Ok thank you! Anyways, there is a video that pauses when she is at the height of her leaps. And clearly she hits 180. If I remember what the video is called, I will post it. Anyways, I am not saying Shawn is as flexible as Nastia. Of course not- only because they are two very different gymnasts. I love them both, and I think they they are the best of, should you say, their "styles". I think Shawn is the best of the power gymnasts and Nastia is the best of the artistic gymnasts

  • @abbythegymnast98 You can call Shawn unflexible compared to Nastia. I saw a video where she bend her back like a rythmic gymnast. Bessonova could not even bent her back this way and Nastia's flexibility came naturally. Pretty impressive !

  • @Missnewyork28 Yes, Nastia is crazy flexible! It's in her blood- her mother was a rythmic gymnast and Valeri was an artistic gymnast :)

  • @abbythegymnast98

You turn your back leg. Look at an overview shot of SJ during her leaps, you'll see her legs shoot out at an angle instead of being in line with her body. This is cheating your leaps and makes them easier.

  • I love Nastia to death but I think if Shawn was just as graceful she would defnitely beat Nastia on close to every event.....

  • @XxSportyMusicGirlxX and they both won the all around

  • in 1992 this would've scored 9.9!

  • Not trying to compare people or anything..but both Nastia and Carly Patterson are from WOGA and they both got silver in beam finals, and they both have a lightness about them on beam.

  • @MrAerial12345 maybe on this day Shawn just did a little better on the beam then she did on the all-around day. and Nastia just did better on the all-around day then she did on this day.

  • stop hating on shawn johnson. nastia is supost to be more gracefull she is an artistic gymnast and shawn is a power gymnast.

  • she should have won the beam event she makes it look fluid and graceful shawn looks shaky and unsure

  • wow she's amazingggg<3

  • her legs just amaze me how perfect she keeps them straight ! and her toes pointed

  • Nastia is definitely more graceful than Shawn but I definitely like Shawn more

  • She's so beautiful, I usually don't like the way gymnast look but she is just so graceful and elegant! Such a fan!

  • Shawn and Nastia were incredible gymnasts. Not a lot of gymnasts nowadays can put up a routine with so few wobbles and so much confidence. Aliya Mustafina has the confidence, but her form is unbearable to watch and she definitely doesn't have the rhythm on beam.

  • nastia should have the walk over into the aerobesque (idk how to spell it) named after her

  • @78SanFran i think she something named after her but idk what skill it is

  • @78SanFran if you mean the one at 1:31, it's already named after her. it's called a Liukin :)))

  • @CRDSA177 Actually it's not in the CoP. It is considered as a front walkover directly connected to an arabesque.

  • @78SanFran arabesque. Think of "Arabian" because arabesque is French for "In an Arabian fashion". :)

  • this was miles better than shawns unclean 120 split routine. she had little wobbles. i just really think nastia shouldve gotten the gold. but i guess since shawn has deserved the silver the whole timw, good for her. but still, nastia has the classical grace, screw the new code of points.

  • @gymnastagirl141009 I personally agree and prefer Nastia's all round gymnastics. However, Shawn was rewarded for her greater difficulty with her full twisting somersault and her tumbling series. With great difficulty, she can afford to have a few tiny wobbles and still win - that's why it's worth taking the risk if you've got the guts to do so.

  • this girl is so amazing know wonder she has a gold medal!!

  • I Love Nastia , , Shes One of the Best Gymnast In History And Of Course Shawn Has Skill But Nastia Has the Grace Now adays that most Gymnast dont have

  • Her hyperextending knee joints are... interesting to watch.

  • @Missnewyork28

Yeah she's also not very powerful which doesn't help either

  • She shouldn't have got dutucted on the hop. Only because in nadia commenicis perfect ten she hopped to.

  • @Missnewyork28

I do agree that if she didn't try so hard to get a high difficulty she would be so much cleaner. I do really like her beam and yeah her bars have some flaws, obviously. But I mean when any gymnast is at that level they're pretty amazing in my opinion.

  • @102210heart She could be amazing on bars if she was not trying to get such a huge SV. It's too bad actually. Everyone points out her artistry but actually she is doing like a lot of dislike gymnasts before her: code whoring. I could like her beam if she was doing someting else than aerials. I like aerials but it's boring at some point. Not her fault though, I don't like a lot of beam worker for that as well.

  • awesome!!

  • @Missnewyork28 the COP?

  • @102210heart Code of Point

  • that was a good change leg split jump BUT for perfection check out Pavlova's one ! her head literally touches her back foot!!!!

  • @Missnewyork28

Yeah you're right the olympics are actually harder...considering the ways the judges score and how they factor in the difficulty. Plus why don't you try to do the bar routine nastia does...I think we would all like to see you FAIL.

  • @102210heart Hum really funny. She's been training for YEARS to make it and with BENT LEGS. What a shame at an elite level to have BENT KNEES on a simple giants. Maybe I can't do it because I never practiced gymnastics a that level but at least I can see what's wrong in her routines. She might have a huge SV but instead of trying to make a really hard routine to win the games, she could have focused on cleaning her skills because seriously there's a LOT of form breaks.

  • @Missnewyork28 you're right im sorry, and thats not being sarcastic. I just thought it was rude that u bashed on her about being like this awful gymnast. She does have form breaks of course in her bars, but I mean look at her beam and I think she's amazing because everyone was rooting for Shawn to win and then she came back with an injury and like I said won the olympics. So I'm sorry because you know I could defenitly not do her bar routine either :)

  • @102210heart I don't think she's awful, I think she's not that great, an overated by fans. The only champion I like on this game is Izbasa. I disagree with the COP,the scoring system and the result.

About nastia, her beam is good but banal, she takes no risks. It's the same boring skills, that's why I like a few gymnast. I now she got seriously injured but it's the case for every gymnasts. To me she just has nothing special. That's it.

  • @Missnewyork28

Hey have you heard? Nastia won the friggin olympics!! So quit bashing her

  • @102210heart And ?? The gold medal doesn't make the champion. She won because her dad overused the connection bonus on bars to reach 7.7 SV. That's all. Without it, she would not even be on the podium considering the massive overscored score she got on FX. The olympics are not what they were before.

  • i dont get why her legs r so much longer than her body.

  • @jakeve2 omg are you serious lolz your leggs are the longest part of your body idiot lmao...

  • @sexybutnasty

'Omg are you serious lolz' can't you read? 'So much longer than her body', not longer than her body meaning 'Why are they so long'. 'idiot imao...'.

  • @ThatMichaelKid lolz omg you just made yourslf sound and look more of an IDIOT bahahaha

  • @sexybutnasty

To be completely honest, I actually really didn't. I made sense, unlike you who can't read properly.

  • Comment removed

  • @sexybutnasty Oh my God..LOL. This proves you can't read and you can't spell. I didn't ask the question you IDIOT. Now you're making yourself look like even more of an embarrassment. I was replying to your answer of the question telling you to re-read what it says, what a utter moron you are. Take my advice again, LEARN TO READ.

    Overall we have found out.

    a) I didn't ask the question, I was replying to your answer.

    b) You can't read.

    c) You don't understand simple questions.

  • Comment removed

  • Lmao

This is MAD funny!!! I personally like nastia better but like why argue about who's better when rhwir borh amazing?!?!

Frig they went to the olympics!! ;p anyways great routine :D

  • She should have won gold! She is so so beautiful and fluid in her movements! Definitely my favorite gymnast to watch on beam.

  • @FlicTuckFull

Honest question here; are you a judge? Because I think you'd be a good one :)

  • What is it called when she goes into a back handspring and twits into a front walkover?

  • @baily2b4 Onodi

  • What is it called when she does a back handspring into a front walkover?

  • im watching the diffrences with nasia and nastia .. nadia is slow and soft in landing and moves.... and nastia is quick and sharp =)

  • if you look at the breakdown of their scores, the only place shawn scored higher than nastia was her difficulty.

  • @samanthagiveskisses Why do you say "the only place"? There's only TWO places! So yes, shawn's difficulty was higher. But it's not like that's an unfair exception. Some gymnasts have lower difficulty and higher execution, and others vice versa. I'm sick of people saying it's an advantage to have a higher difficulty, because it makes execution harder...it's still fair.

  • that routine was ridiculously perfect

  • I feel like history is repeating! the two best americans today are jordyn weiber and rebecca bross, as well as shawn johnson and nastia liukin back in 2008. I think once weiber is to become a senior, she will steal bross's spotlight (as well as shawn did) but in the end, bross will overcome her.

  • i love how graceful she is- she lands things almost silently

  • Nastia's routine is so beautiful. I agree with that commentator at one point about being a judge and struggling to give an deductions. It was just so beautiful. I love Nastia and I think that is my favourite routine in this world. I just can't stand to think that Shawn Johnson ever won ANYTHING against Nastia Liukin!

  • shawn's was very difficult but i feel like nastia's was even more difficult & cleaner. idk, is it just me?

  • i always thought they were saying 'nasty" luikin

  • her dismount sucked

  • That antelope looking jump was astonishing to watch breath taking. Shawn I felt deserved the gold on balance beam only because she had a bunch of tricks, but the artistry on the beam hands down goes to Nastia. I hope they both are back for the Summer games in England. Both fed off of each other nicely!

  • How does her leg bend like that?? If you freeze at 2:47 her right leg down from the knee is bent at a crazy angle. Lots of stretching and more stretching I assume...but yikes.

    The commentator... "OHH~!!" LOL

  • @NedSCUBAyah it's natural that ur knee bends backwards when you are able to over split. all the rhythmic gymnasts have got it for example, or ballerinas

  • They're so different because the athletes are built differently.

Shawn is smaller and more muscular with shorter legs, she must use a springboard.

Nastia is a bit taller with longer legs, she can use a springboard or do those graceful mount/dismount moves. :)

  • Graceful and fluid! (like the lady said) But indeed, seems less difficult than Shawn's routine and not so much variety in it...

    Very beautiful to watch though!

  • i remember watching this on tv with jaw agape. such elegance! outstanding!!

  • @sonatural : that is not the best I've ever seen

  • @ejmcint, i understand what you're coming from, but it's also based on HOW you do those moves :)

  • Extremely beautiful seeing this.

  • man just pause it at 2:48

  • Shawn did have the higher difficulty, but she also won gold because of her amazing power, strength and speed. Nastia is incredible on beam, but ultimately her routine did not have the difficulty and she was deducted on fair points - her feet were crossed on her dismount, she hopped on the landing and the height was a little off on some moves. So yes, she's amazing, and deserved silver, but Shawn did deserve to win the gold.

  • in my opinion, shawn johnson should have taken silver

  • shawn only won because of the moves she did... cause they were harder but nastia was cleaner and neater. everything was perfect except for the dismount landing.

    i vote TEAM NASTIA!

  • @alyant97 hahahahahahaha. "shawn only won because of the moves she did" that is hilarious commentary for a sport based on the moves you do.

  • i think she should've got the gold. it was well deserved

  • I love her leotards. I want to wear those to the beach instead of a reg tankini now.

  • Nastia is a great gymnast! What is the name of the jump she does at 1:22?

  • @WonderSmartt full turning jump

    i think

  • @WonderSmartt It's a wolf jump with a full turn

  • @WonderSmartt it is a wolve jump with a full twist.

  • Everyone half of her deductions acually come from form and technical errors, her feet don't touch her head on sheep jump flexed feet on some skills crossed legs on dismount, and she took a hop, nastia is amazing, but there was deductions they had to take, shawn actually deserved to win, and i adore nastia but she deserved silver

  • people don't realize how hard people like her train she is one of the most amazing people in the world.

  • people don't realize how hard people like her train she is one of the most amazing people in the world.

  • She purposely hopped on her dismount so Shawn could finally get her gold medal. She's such a good sport :P

  • @PoorPublicSchoolKid haha right good one, she like always takes a hop, she was very consistent at this dismount in the olympics though

  • her begining flips are so beautiful and gracefull

  • i've never quite gotten the jury B scores. jury b is ONLY for execution. and she only got 9.425? when if that same routine on a 10.0 scale was done in sydney 2000, it wouldve gotten like 9.800.

  • @dannyradar You probably don't see it because most of her deductions come from form: Flexed feet, feet not touching head on the sheep jump, leg separation on the sheep jump, legs crossed on dismount, and the wolf full (the extended leg is below horizontal - in the current COP, this warrants a .3 deduction. I don't have a 2008 code, so it might have been .1 then). You then have the hop on dismount and wobble on Onodi.

  • she is very smooth and has good form but she doesn't really have choreography, i mean part of being graceful isen't just form and moving smooth it is about having graceful choreo, not just jumps and acrobatics

  • @kuddygymnast12 she ws doing a side somi not a side ariel. in a side somi yes you do bend your legs.

  • if only her difficulty level was higher, she would've won. her execution was much better.

  • her lines and toe point is just incredible. Her mom's rhythmic gymnastics training has definitely rubbed off:)

  • It all looks so beautifully natural to her.

  • Shawn Johnson (and many other elite gymnasts) can take your breath away doing huge twisting skills, but Nastia is one of the few who can take your breath away doing "simple" elite skills such as leaps. Wow, did you see that leap? =)

  • I personally like Nastia as a gymnast. She in fact is my absolute favorite between the years 2005-2008. But I am not so polarized on one side or the other to know that she isn't as perfect as some will have you believe, nor as dreadful. NO her technique isn't as top notch as you believe, and actually her nice dance elements adds to the illusion. But she is a good gymnast no doubt, yet I believe the media has overshadowed other great gymnasts as a result of their fixation on her. That is all.

  • should have won!!! Gymnast ever!!!!!

  • She is so amazing ! Definetly same talent as Johnson, just different!

  • She has the most amazing long legs.

  • people who are leaving bad comments, like you could have done ANY better i dont see you guys in the olympics, so dont leave bad comments!

  • THANK YOU!!!

exactly people.. i dont see you in the olympics competing so dont open your mouth and sad no good. she obviously is amazing. so unless you are an elite gymnast competing against her... you have no room to talk

  • @x3fifex342 Actually that isn't a very logical/rational argument if I do say so myself. You don't have to be a concert pianist to know when a Sonata is off-key. You don't have to be a ballet dancer to know that a ballerina is sickling. Likewise you don't have to be a gymnast to recognize good or bad technique, you only have to have a trained eye. Thus opinions aren't any better or worse whether or not you are a gymast.

  • @luv4cookie1

    you can't fake that, sorry.

  • Okay, despite hating all the 'Nastytards" that post on 90% of Nastia videos, Nastia does have the ability of Shawn Johnson.

She focuses it more on dance, and, although she is not the best at dance (prepares for hate) she is at least different than all the other American gymnasts. Which, is good enough for me.

  • She's very pretty and talented. Mostly I watched Shawn Johnson, but I'm glad I searched Nastia up. I agree with the lady - it must be very difficult to judge these girls. Their both so amazing at beam, vaulting, and the other performances. Definitely fluid movement. The difference between Johnson and Luikin, is Nastia has more grace, in my opinion.

Oh well, they both did awesome, and silver is better then bronze/nothing. :)

  • shawn and liukin are great gymnasts!

  • her mom is a rhythmic gymnast and her dad is a gymnast. i think she gets the flexibility and gracefulness from her mom and the strength and skills from her dad :) shes awesome

  • Now with the COP I think gymnast like Nastia will score higher cause of the dance elements rather than the acrobatic.

  • I wonder why people marked you down...that's exactly what this code wants, it wants artistic gymnasts like Liukin, Pavlova, and Porgras more than powerful tumblers like Johnson, Cheng Fei, and 99% of all Romanians, this sport is called Artistic Gymnastics after all. See what they did with floor, and yet this year's World Champion wasn't anywhere close to being artistic, neither on beam nor floor.

  • @ChainChomp2 very well said. it´s horrible how the Romanian gymnasts lost their artistry in the early 90´s. it would be nice to see another romanian team like their ´87 worlds team was. i also miss the strong russian teams

  • i think shawn's won because of her difficulty.

  • Yes she did. Nastia had a higher execution score but Shawn had a higher difficulty

  • @secondaryone

well, she was very close. she needed 0.2 more, and that landing was a tenth off i think. she needed 0.1 more.

but, shawn johnson shouldve got more than 9.225 for her execution. she had better combintions and she connected them so well.

  • @secondaryone ya, and she did stick everything except her dismount, and shawn had a higher start value. But nastia has gorgeous lines and difficult to but just not as much as shawn

  • @secondaryone Shawn won because of difficulty AND execution :)

  • @alexzjay

    No dear, no.

Shawn Johnson is disgusting on beam. Her splits are cheated and she STILL doesn't hit 180. She hasn't even mastered basics 7th and 8th level gymnasts have.

  • @FlicTuckFull Damn it, what the hell is your problem with Shawn. Sorry for you if she is not tall, and skinny, and elegant. It's not her fault if she is small and muscular. She is really clean on her skills. AND for your information, Shawn is NOT the only one no to reach 180 on her splits. Are they disgusting gymnasts as well ?????????????? You don't like, fine, that's your opinion, but stop saying crap such as "she is disgusting.

  • @Missnewyork28

Shawn is a messy with her gymnasts.

IE) Her Amanar shouldn't have even been credited in the AA final; Yang Yilin should have won the silver.

Her splits not only don't hit 180 but she also CHEATS them. Do you know how bad it is when someone cheats splits the amount AJ does and STILL can't hit 180.

Yes. Any gymnast who can't hit 180 is disgusting. Split jumps are things mastered by level 7 and 8 gymnasts.
