...what Marchand did just recently wasn't a hip check...he didn't line him up but just 'duck' in the last second when the other guy was about to throw a hit on him...that is the issue i have trouble with..he done it before on one of the sedins too...

I think the hip check is a lost art because, the league defines it as clipping now a days. I have seen a few instances where a seemingly clean hip check was applied, and the ref called it 2 for clipping. And the NHL is wondering why it has so many problems with concussions and having to come up with rule 48. I'm all for old time hockey. Hip checks and clean shoulder checks. Get rid of hits to the head.

I'd rather be hip-checked than open ice shoulder checked. Sometimes you can manage to sort of somersault out of them or even parry them in a way, just protect your face! Nothing was worse to me than being lined up open ice knowing you're about to hit a brick wall, and while it may have less bravado, in my experience it hurts much more.

Kasparitis went too low and went for the knee far too often. When I was a kid, Brad Park was even better than McLaren at it, and I got to see them both play in Boston. Kyle was much taller and his hip ended up in peoples chests. Park usually got them in the thigh and flipped them with his hip and it looked much cooler. Kyle tended to do more damage though.

Check 3:03, that happened to me in a game and I almost broke my femur. It hurts. Now a hip check is the hardest hit to execute in hockey and if u do it right its the best feeling in the world its better then scoring a goal.
