@is12f do you have cable internet if so just unplug your Ethernet cable from the back of the computer and plug that cable into the xbox 360 put the game in and and start the game after it updates you can plug your computer back in. let me know if you can do this if not their are a couple more things you can try but that is the easiest way to do it...

i killed her at level 1 and i didnt even know that she was part of a quest. The sacond i walked out of the ruin i saw on my little map at the bottom of the screen prayed to it (free of charge) and he asked me for the sword ive heared the helmets good though so if you want it level one do it like that

@MadHata99 Probably easier to kill her at level 1 than it is at level 50, reason being is enemies level up with you, although you probably know that now considering you posted this comment over half a year ago.

best way to colplete this quest is to go in to Vindasel (Ayleid ruin) talk to umbra and leave go back to Clavicus Vile (daedric shrine)tell him u dont have it and go back to vindasel kill umbra and take the sword (a now permanent quest item with wieght at 0 and damage at 28 (if blade is 100)) also umbra is not affected by level so at level 1 (with blade at 100) umbra will do 28 damage

Umbra is the most powerful (base dmage) sword in the game when your blade is 100 umbra does 28 damage but enchantment wise it sucks (get Mysticism to 100 then create a soul trap spell) Mehrunes' Razor is the best sword in the game (plug-in) and the mask he gives u sucks it fortifys personality 20p (personality is more or less useless)

@undeadmanwalking All it does is fortify the game's most useless attribute, personality. With personality, all you have to do is make a cheap spell with the following (Must be an Apprentice in Restoration):

Charm 100pts for 1 second on TOUCH

Fortify Mercantile 100pts for 1 second on SELF

Fortifying Mercantile allows you to invest early and it helps with buying and selling things.

Quite interesting actually, I did this quest at level 1. I decided to get Umbra, and began chasing a deer just for the hell of it, and ran into a daedric shrine. I talked to the Khajiit who told me he demanded a 500 gold offering, where I got a quest update stating I had retrieved the sword. I activated the shrine, where he asked me to give him the sword. The mask looks outrageous, so I declined but he made it weigh 45 pounds :( so I just reloaded.

@Unicyclist90210 If you play on computer you can get both. Just give Umbra's sword to Clavicus, and then after you get the mask, either go to the Oblivion Testing Hall and find another in one of the rooms or use the player.additem cheat for the sword.

@Unicyclist90210 You should run XP in parallels and install AVG 9.0, CCleaner, and Malwarebytes. You'll be perfectly safe of viruses if you do. That's the protection setup I use/recommend lol. And it's easy to find free PC copies of Oblivion on the internet. Also, using wxPirs you can convert your save from the 360 and use it on PC, that's what I did, cause I had the 360 version and then played the PC version, and in my opinion, it's much better on the computer lol.

dont use some strategy just make an amazing enchanted weapon or use spellbraker (shield) goldbrand (sword) and saviours hide(armour) it works great or if ur a nub just put it to ultimate easyness( lol nubs)

The best strategy for Umbra is to hit her very hard, very fast. She regenerates health, so you should hit her with a powerful scroll, then lay on the firepower with whatever you've got.

You can find Umbra there at any level. She just says "What?" and won't do anything until you attack her.

save before u give it 2 him...then turn off the xbox...turn it on by ejecting your disk...then you come onto that page...go to memory settings and then press y the type in xxlbrbxx like so...and then go back...close the disk and play oblivion...and it should work...tell me if so... =]

there is a fix for not giving him the sword, just as soon as you finish the quest dont move, immediatley fast travel to a city then as soon as you finish fast traveling dont do anything until you hear the voice talking to you, then after it finishes dont move, just fast travel again and then once you finish fast traveling again you should be ok and able to play again like normal, i am almost positive this works

I always assumed Umbra was better than a daedric claymore by a couple of points, today though i'd just reached expert armourer so as i could do the permanent bound items glitch. Then using the "bound sword" spell i repaired what i can only assume is a daedric claymore (only better) to 125 health and did the same to Umbra, the bound sword had one or two points of base damage more. Regardless of my terrible cheating ways this still means it's a base sword with more damage than umbra.

If you go to first vindasel without activating the shrine(clavicus), receive Umbra, then go to clavicus viles shrine, activate it(don't give the sword) and your xbox won't freeze. Clavicus viles dog freezes Xbox.

Some Daedric weapons are alot more powerful than Umbra. I did an Arena match againts the Grey Prince. I saved when the gates opened, got killed when I was using Umbra. Loaded used a Daedric Warhammer and killed him.

Well that probably has to do with your blunt level compared to your blade level, because Umbra is the best sword in overall damage (without cheats or mods). And if you had done the grey prince's quest you wouldn't have had to fight him in the first place.

Again, that's false. Everyone keeps assuming Umbra is the best, but it isn't. There are many, many weapons out there, and mods for consoles aren't cheats and are made by Bungie so those are valid, plus like I said, a Perfect Madness weapon with enchantments is better than Umbra.

Hey if you want to have both, just don't start the quest and go to the cave. Kill Umbra and dupe it because it won't be a quest item, then go to the shrine and...tada! You give one up, and still have the Masque and the duped Umbra.

My Xbox 360 is dead, and I shipped it off to be fixed, so if you want me to try to see if I can item dupe or get around that, you can wait. But, if you are in a rush to to the H Mora shrine quest, yeah. It's not the strongest weapon in the game, but the enchantment is pretty nice with the soul trap. The helm is actually good for persuasion, and I think it looks tight.

i have done H mora quest yet, its easy, when clavicus asks for the sword just say "no" and the mission is complete. the helm isnt very good i think the knights of nine one is better, 25 to personality and something else, i cant remember.

Ohgma Infinium is for H Mora, no relation to this quest, and the book you get for it doesn't cover personality. I'm trying a find a way to dupe Umbra like I did to Wabbajack and the Mace of Molag Bal, but until my Xbox is fixed I've gotta wait. I have far better swords already than Umbra, so even losing it isn't so bad.

Well yeah, that is pretty obvious and not worth mentioning, which is why I didn't. I have a few ones with names I just don't remember since my Xbox died like 3 weeks ago, and I just sent it out 3 days ago, but the one I use is forged and enchanted. Plus, my armor is 120 percent invisible, so nothing can hit me anyway..but I'm only using that for certain quests I don't want to deal with. If you have Shivering Isles, a Perfect Madness sword with enchantmens is better as well.

Yeah definitely, I got the Enchanted Perfect Madness Claymore, I'm at the highest level for Blade and if I do a forward power attack with it, sometimes I can kill a Grumite in 1 hit.

The mask is actually cool looking to me. Reminds me of the mask in Gladiator with the tiger match. If you don't want to give up Umbra, simply never finish the quest or start it. You can still go find Umbra without starting it, kill her, and take it. I personally used a post-patch dupe and therefore duped it because it wasn't a quest item. Did the same for my daedra artifact so I never had to give one up. Me=Master of glitches/secrets/this fucking game. Lvl 20 with 11 mil, 1,000 sigil stones, etc

All you have to do is get at least two of the same spell scroll, Withering Touch for an example. Open your inventory to the list that has everything and go down to the spell scroll. Click "A" once on the scroll and go up to the item you want to duplicate and drop it. For as many of the same spell scroll there should be that item lying on the floor. 20 Withering Touch=20 Daedric Long Swords for example. Hope that helps.

Oh and Umbra isn't really the best sword in the game. You can either forge a better one, or there are more powerful ones out there, but they are rare. The sword is great though with that soul trapping enchantment.

yes actually, but not the way you yhink.if you have the staff of worms, and the skull of corruption you can kill like a bandit or something, put umbra in their inventory, use the staff of worms to bring him back to life and use the skull of corupption on him to make an evil clone, theyll fight eachother kill them both and loot them. then you have two umbras!
