I think Strange journey's music alone is enough to show that it's supposed to be at least a little bit more serious than, let's say, Persona. Or is it just me?
It seems like the endings of this game aren't good at allxD
If you go the Chaos route, everyone dies and it becomes the world of the old gods. Law route makes you brainwash everyone into being happy and nice. Haven't went neutral yet, but I heard you meet Gore or something again?
@ShadowNinjaX3 None of the endings are really good or bad. They're just... endings. No matter what you do everyone gets screwed, even in Neutral, because your lack of action means humanity pretty much kills itself off in the end. At least with Law or Chaos you're taking action and not being a lazy ass!
@LeGigify Not entirely true. SMT Nocturne has shitty J-pop too. Or at least bad music of some kind. Some tunes in the original SMT were annoying also, though mostly because they went on for hours!
There is no effing J-pop in Nocturne or any of the main SMT games. As for original SMT tunes being annoying, why were you in the same area or fight for so long? It should be a given that a game made in '92 would have short bgm loops.
@UltimaLuminaire It was the main "town" music that was driving me insane. BEFORE the nukes fell. The music AFTER was pretty good. Also, that hideous song that played when you were in the room with your dog...
@UltimaLuminaire I may be wrong to call the music I was referring to J-pop. I just meant it's not classical, it's not orchestral (like Strange Journey is), and it didn't sound "dark". It sounded like something that might get played in a nightclub. It annoyed me. Especially the music in Nocturne.
@DGneoseeker1 IMO, Nocturne wasn't really that dark (haven't played Strange Journey so I dunno about that game and how well the music fits). I know there's the end of the world and everything but after that, the game's mood is kinda chill (until the end anyways) and all the demons and souls have pretty colourful and amusing personalities. I think the music in Nocturne was really fitting in that sense.
@DGneoseeker1 Because the main characters didn't give a crap about humanity? Light mood? Why should demons and spirits give a damn. Why should the main characters, whom are ass holes in the first place, give a damn? The only ones that clearly give a damn are possibly you and YHWH. It makes complete sense and is incredibly morbid in its own way, considering what powers at work are closest to achieving their goals.
@DGneoseeker1 The game is fairly minimalist in terms of story. It's not for everyone. Furthermore, the game was never about saving humanity to begin with. Other main SMT games do that already. It's strange you're so attached to the idea. One of the endings allows you to save humanity, but only because it's the world you saw most fit, and you back-handed everyone else to get there. A lot of demons actually give a big damn about everything going on, you just have to talk to them to figure it out.
@UltimaLuminaire A great example is when you are climbing the tower to reach Kagatsuchi. When you converse with the demons as you progress, they almost cry themselves into a stupor after you brutally crushed their hopes and dreams.
Chiaki and Isamu didn't give a crap because they're assholes who only cared about themselves, though Chiaki was clearly affected by it. Takao and Hikawa knew it was coming and were eagerly awaiting it. "Hiriji" doesn't care because he's been through worse.
Essentially, none of the characters give a shit because they're self-centered assholes.
@DGneoseeker1 He is a demon (a very powerful one at that) and a silent protagonist after all. I think that living in a world like that wouldn't be so dark and heavy for him compared to the human protagonists of Strange Journey, especially considering how he can interact with the other demons and quite a few of them aren't that vicious. Regardless, I still think the music in SMT: Nocturne was great and didn't detract from the game.
@Patcheresu It's funny. You wouldn't think a boss theme should sound majestic like this, but it works really well for this game. Especially against the Tyrants.

Huh... This game has much better music than the other SMT games, apparantly. Is it all orchestral or is there any shitty jpop in there?

@DGneoseeker1
Only persona games have shitty J pop.
All the other SMT games are much darker.

@DGneoseeker1 Hey Shoji Meguro's music is amazing, if u didn't like some songs in them ok but they all don't have to be Classical and Orchestral

@osirisvir That's the problem I had with Nocturne.
The world ended. Almost everyone died.
And the main characters seemed not to give a crap.
The light mood ruined it.

@UltimaLuminaire Well, the problem is... when a game is about characters who are assholes and don't give a damn...
then I find myself not giving a damn either. So I lose interest. The game didn't have a compelling story, in my opinion.
The only satisfying ending would be the one where you become a true demon and kill YHWH, joining with the army of Lucifer.
