..."very OLD NEGRO SPIRITUAL"??? I don't think so. It was written Albert E. Brumley in 1929. He was famous in his day & wrote about 800 songs. "I'll fly away" is one of his most famous. Over 100 of his songs were recorded by professionals. He started writing songs as a teenager. He came from a very poor white family in Oklahoma.
