  • those looking to cut their sim card, get a proper sim card cutter as you'll be able to convert it back into a standard size if needed.

  • I cut mine a little bit short on one side, so i filled the gap with a tiny bit of blu tack and used a knife to make sure it was flush. Worked great, thanks!

  • Enter: goo.gl\8ONjl and get your own iPad 2.

  • I did it ! it was touch and go for abit. but she pulled through. HELLO NEW IPHONE ! thanks by the way ! would never have dared to try if it wasnt for this !

  • Wouldn't it be so much easier if you used the micro sim card tray as the template to draw around the sim card to get a perfect fit first time ?

  • Ahh, the age old quote of - 'Houston, we're in'

  • Now u know this clip is Stupid right?

  • Thanks VirtualGeezer. I managed to do mine just by watching this and seeing where you cut. Very helpful thanks muchly

  • the best video on how to do this! I found that even with a template you still got to cut the corners to make it fix into the microsim card tray.

  • You could clone your sim and use it in both, disabling data on the iPad when you don't want it.

  • i have an easier way in my channel steps a 3 year old could follow,,, but then again great job on the video

  • too much talking...

  • i didnt do this but i did a micro sim adaptor using an old sim card housing ;) im gonna try this soon! nice video!

  • I just cut mine but I didn't have the template. It doesn't work: don't try this without the template :D

  • I don't really know how to put this but the data plans for 3 are quite discusting and are all 24 month contracts, so if I sorted a contract for a simple mobile broadband SIM and trimmed it down to a microsim, would that work for an iPad? I know this is what the video is about but I'm just making sure its a valid reason why I should be ripping apart a SIM card :)

  • @samithebrit96 Yeah it should be exactly the same as a regular phone sim. You'll probably need to change the data settings if it's on another network other than O2. You should easily be able to find these via google.

  • did this and it worked like a charm, thnks

  • WOW NICE ONE JUST CUT MINE UP AND IT WORKS FINE !!!

  • just did this - worked a treat - nice one man

  • just did this - worked a treat - nice one man

  • Yeah Great informative video!Thanks,beilliant!

  • i just made my microsim. thx for this video.

  • @mangal789 No, the iPhone 4 uses Micro-Sims exactly like the iPad. If you had a normal sim that you then chopped down for your iPad, then it would also fit in an iphone 4 perfectly. However to put the newly chopped Micro-Sim back into an iPhone 3GS/3G/2G or any normal kinda phone you will need an adaptor as I explained in the video.

  • i would of thought that not to work considering the gold chip is a different size to the ordered o2 one but cool i guess im gonna try this when i get my ipad

  • my t-mobile sim is weird, the important stuff (seen through light) doesnt align with the gold how should i cut it?

  • Yeahh !!!!!! Hybrid !!!!!! Great =)

  • A tip for you guys, You can use a nail filler which is like sand papaer texture but not as rough to smooth out the edges and make more precise sizes of the sim so you dont have to use scissors to cut a small fraction of the sim.

  • did anyone see that hair on the scissor.

  • @lowgericoh Yep

  • i was gonna get a micro sim cutter thanks maan

  • thanks for this, just ordered my free micro sim or... "template"

  • that hair on the scissor is so annoying!

    nice vid though

  • now im not scared to buy my iPhone anymore ..

got vodafone .. but they dont deliver microsims .. only option is to cut,

gonna try with 2 other sim cards first haha, thank you very much :D

  • nigga u shave ur balls with them scissors? theres hair on it? 2:32

  • check iphonemicrosim*com for a hasslefree solution without adaptors!

  • Laat professioneel uw simkaart converteren naar een micro sim. Neem snel een kijkje op ipadbeschermhoezen.nl!

  • Thx

  • Great movie??? stupid clip.

  • very well made video. Loving colour changes. Professionally made video. Keep up with good work! thanks

  • Just get iPhone 4 :) Contrary to popular belief, it is the best phone available.

  • O2 Sounds So Much Cooler Than AT&T ROGERS or Fido

  • Impressive & Informative Vid, ever thought of a career on The Gadget Show . . . . .

  • Nice!!!

But for $45 at Negri you can buy a Micro-Sim Converter and back to regular Sim.

  • How do I get camcorder video onto my I pad.please help

  • man you are the best!!!!!this is the best video!! But if i will cut my sim ard like you into a micro sim card it will work on my iphone 4?

  • @nikrakrase If it works in your iPad once you've cut it then it'll work in the iPhone 4 too. Good luck

  • I tried this on my iPhone4 - using my UK T-Mobile SIM (using O2 SIM as a template). It works!!!!!!

  • wow, so clear, smooth music and information and links in the description, why can all youtube videos be like this

  • what if we cut that gold chip ???

  • @ghabrestoon Apparently some sims may result in you chopping some of the gold area, this shouldn't be a problem. There are three main areas (in the middle) on the sim that are vital that they don't get touched but by using this template that should not happen.

  • Great video mate, After watching this I just ordered a free micro sim from O2 so i can cut my tmobile sim to use on my iPhone 4 that i pre-ordered cant wait for 24th June!!! wooohoo! 512mb ram!! lol epic pwnage!

Do you guys think it will work on the iphone 4 tho? what if they coded it for only official microsims?? :(

  • @Spinalc0rd No it should work on the iPhone 4, it's a new standard of sim so if you get it right and it works in your iPad then it'll work in the new iPhone.

  • @virtualgeezer Yeah got my iPhone 4 and I can confirm cutting the sim has worked got no probs here. Not experiencing any antenna issues either but maybe cause I'm on tmobile in the uk. Just to let u non early adopters know.

  • @Spinalc0rd can you help me please? I have a iphone 3gs 32g that it's not activated because i don't have a Sim cord it the phone is locked to Orange in France and i need one so can you please help my email is trilltrillu@yahoo.com thank you .

  • @Spinalc0rd it works cutting the normal sim card into a micro sd I have tried it out for myself without any problems, first try!

  • Great work dude. Im defo going to do this to my existing T-Mob SIM for my new iphone 4. Jus ordered the free O2 Microsim to get the dimensions exact, found a site which just gives the dimensions - which you then need to pencil on. Your method is perfect, especially using the garden shears, ;-p - though i may use a file/sandpaper to get a smooth finish. Cheers

  • Good video. I'm sure lots of people will do this for their iPhone 4. What song's in the background?

  • @iPhoneGTI Thanks man, the song is by a band called Hybrid and the track is 'Can You Hear Me (Instrumental Mix). Amazing producers, love their stuff!

  • I’m doing this my T-Mobile SIM when I get iPhone 4, but I’m thinking of using a file after cutting it with scissors because it gets pretty close to the gold contacts too!

  • @theramin987 Apparently with some sims you may actually need to cut the gold part. There are three central parts of the gold that hold all the info, so these are the ones that shouldn't ever be cut.

  • @theramin987 I had to cut through the gold contacts and it works fine. Just dont cut through the 3 central ones!

  • i ont think i would want to risk cutting up my sim card

  • Thanks for the vid. I'm happy that the "microSIM" is actually same old little chip just with less plastic. And the alignment of the chip with connectors does not need to be super precise.

I was expecting some profoundly new method of cutting the plastic. Instead you pulled out big-ass scissors. I'd use utility knife (aka Stanley knife in UK) or X-Acto. But I guess anything works. cheers

  • @RadoDani Haha, yeah I thought about using a nice precise knife, but then thought sod it, scissors were a lot quicker! Thankfully it worked a treat otherwise I'd be waiting for the iPhone 4 sims to be released, phew!

  • can not u just take the sim tray for the ipad and marking the the normal sim instead of actualy getting another micro sim ??

  • @awesome98rock I wouldn't suggest doing that as you have to have the SIM lined up in the right way and this wouldn't be accurate at all. If you don't wish to get a free micro-sim and do it the way I have, you can either measure the dimensions to cut it h ttp://tiny.cc/create_microsim or you could spend around £16 and get a proper Micro-Sim cutter, have a search on google or eBay and you'll find them!

  • Guys, from now on there is no need to sign up for two Ipad data plans! A week ago I bought the micro sim adapter from gomicrosim . com, and now I can use one micro sim card for all apple stuff and other mobile phones. Costs only 4.5 EUR. Really worth it. Should save me 1440$, since now i have no need to sign for another 2 years plan with AT&T. Highly recommend this seller, his price and delivery options are the best so far.

  • thanks again, I got it sorted. I just put the same settings in as my PaYGo iphone, turned off the wifi and opened Safari and hey presto it worked, not sure how long it will last, i think the sim has 12 months free data but i guess i will not be able to top it up after that. having said that I am sure someone will have worked out another dodge by then. thanks for all the help and keep up the good work!

  • Thanks for the reply, i had tried it the way it said at first then the server timed out so I figured it might need the "o2" bit adding and that is when i got the error message saying the ipad was not recognized. I was just wondering if I should have gone ahead and set up a data account with the proper sim first ? i did not do that incase it somehow "locked" the sim to the ipad. I am a bit stuck as to what to do now.

  • @zyroman Just to verify, do you already have an iPhone with a 3G sim & a data plan? I only ask as you said you got a PAYG from ebay. If you do this should work, but you do have to put in a proper micro-sim to get the iPad 3G going. Connect the iPad to a computer and iTunes, then it should ask you 'do you want to activate an o2 account'. Do this, but you don't need to go any further, so no need to choose a data plan. Swap sims now, change cellular data in the iPad et voilà, should work now!

  • Thanks for the cool video, I got an iPhone paygo sim off ebay and cut it as described. It works in the iPad in that it shows o2 top left but when I try to register it it says something along the lines of this iPad is not recognised? When you said register it through iTunes with the proper iPad sim do you just mean sync it or should I then have gone ahead and set up an account before swapping out the sim. I did change the settings as described by you.

  • @zyroman Basically if for example your iphone contract is on O2, then get hold of a legitimate O2 micro-sim which is free via O2's website. Then use that micro-sim to activate the iPad. So put the proper micro-sim in the iPad, connect the iPad to your computer and load up iTunes. iTunes should then ask you would you like to activate the iPad or something similar. It will then apply network data settings into the iPad. You don't need to go any further with that micro-sim so remove it....

  • @zyroman ....pop your newly cut iPhone sim in the iPad, then go to 'settings', 'Cellular Data' then 'APN Settings'. Change the Settings to match your iphone's as in it's current state it won't work. So change the APN to 'idata.o2.co.uk' and change the username to 'vertigo', the password remains the same. After all this it should hopefully work! Hope this helps, good luck!

  • @zyroman Oh and I have just noticed in the info for my video I put the wrong APN details in, it isn't 'idata.co.uk' but instead should actually read 'idata.o2.co.uk'. Hope this hasn't caused you any grief! Apologies and I'm now off to correct it!

  • so what do we do when we want to use it back in our iphone? i dont understand

  • Dude, what's the cool light under the desk or glass or whatever it is? It's funky man! ps, good advice :)

  • @missionlimited it's an ikea LED light under a white glass desk! Looks kinda cool, especially when you put stuff on the spot and then they glow all around the edges.

  • Thanks man, I had an O2 micro-sim already and was a little scared to do it. I saw loads of tips on measuring with a ruler etc but thought it was all to risky, this method was waaaaaaay simpler. Plus thanks for the added info on changing the data details, sorted, I'm was up and running faster than Usain Bolt!
