  • Hey I just bought this Silica Microspheres powder from TKB and I have this question for You can I just mix it with my liquid Foundation instead of using it at the end of the make up for finish look ???

  • One kiss....and I could make you fall in luv with me.

  • 187 brush cost like 40-50 bucks

any other similar brush that is cheaper?

  • is this the same as the same stuff as the high definition powder from elf?

  • omg. i used to use that rice powder ages ago. where did you get it from. i lived in singapore when i used to use it. great tutorial. xx

  • MUFE hd powder is the exact same thing, just check Coastal scents and mufe's website.

  • Could You please give an update on this product. its been little over a year, and i would like to know if you still use it.

    Thank you!

  • Dear Christeeener,

I know I haven't commented in a couple of days/weeks, but as such, I am currently drowning in math homework. if you can imagine, that is a nightmare for me. it's like being stuck in a room full of kryptonite, if I were Superman. but no worries, when I am done for the semester, I promise I will return and comment on every single one of your awesome 'nice face' videos

    Stay sweet love,

    -trickmastermonkey

  • Guys, Im a chemistry, physics, nuclear technology and engineering major in college and as such, Im always mixing stuff up. Unless you are literally snorting this stuff or directly injecting it into your veins, there is no known reason not to use this for oil control on your face. Just use small amounts and you'll be fine. Use your fluffy blush, dip it in the powder, tap off the excess and wear it. You will look great.

  • @blackwidowmollie i take silica pill supplements. they work.

  • MUFE HD powder is 100% Silica as well and people are paying 40bucks for a tiny amount. Same thing

Also realize anytime you played in a sand box or lay on a beach you are IN SILICA. Silica is part of sand. Go to home depot. Look at the sand box sand. You will see it's Silica. You can buy it with out but nearly all sand on playgrounds is Silica.

I think the whole Silica fear is blown a little out of proportion. Just don't snort it. You wouldn't do that with anything else. So why not use this?

  • I like to use it with epoxy for boat building. I guess you could put it on your face if you want

  • So, would you purchase it again? Can anyone share their experience?

  • So i was watching QVC and they were doing a special on MUFE products.. when the MUFE makeup artist whipped out the HD powder he said, and I remember him enthusiastically saying that the product is so great because it is "100% pure silica!" lol so it's the same thing

  • Stop snorting it and carefully put it on your face.

  • So are you "indirectly" saying, "it's toxic, don't buy it?"

  • No. This is a controversial subject.

She doesn't want to tell people to buy something that could be potentially harmful . She is encouraging us to make our own decisions logically.

Also you should research how it should be handled in order to not inhale too much.

Obviously she isn't worried about the risks if she uses it. If you get lung cancer in 10 years do go blaming her though. LOL!!

  • MUFE HD Powder is 100% Silica. This product is 100% silica. Therefore, I don't really see any difference except the price. $4 vs. $40. As far as not being so messy, just use the MUFE HD container or any other powder sifter type container. I love mine!

  • hi xteener, if you have time can you please do an update on how you feel about this product after using it for some time? I would really appreciate it, thanks a lot!!

  • what is this powder used for?

  • you can buy the palladio rice powder at Sally Beauty Supply. i have it myself and it is so good! i even have their liquid eyeliner and lip stains :D good brand

  • Her name isn't sometimes.

  • if you google "silica powder spheres" this video is the first thing that comes up. :) well at least for me.

  • interesting thx

  • Would this be bad for asthmatics?

  • what's in here can't be worse than the stuff we use everyday... like shampoo and hairspray. really.

  • You look realy pretty here :]

  • Where can you buy the rice powder?

  • coastal scents also sells rice powder

  • damn that looks dangerous.

  • PEOPLE....like she said. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH. I have and I've seen quite a few scientists reviews and they say that THIS particular form of silica will not hurt you. It's safe to use. Unless you decide to snort it then your on your own.

  • Even snorting it it's a different chemical to crystalline silica (which is the carcinogen), so.... No big anyway.

  • silica is the same stuff the use in nail acrylic . and most nail techs usually to wear masks because of the fibers

  • ok IF I WERE TO USE IT...how much would i mix of the silica with my foundation in order to be safe??????

  • what are silica powder spheres

  • yeah I know why did they add spheres at the end?

  • just got the 4 dollar jar...i love it, its great only if you use very little...you just have to be careful when opening and brushing on ur face because it gets everywhere and you can breathe this into your lungs..just open the window to reduce the amount of powder in the air.....Overall i give this product a 9 outa 10...i love it!!!! Helps keeps ur makeup fresh if you have oily skin.

good deal, works great!!!!!...just be very careful using this product!

    Joy

  • id rather just not take the risk ya know

but its just like smoking ciggarettes,

its a decision people make on their own

    thanks for the video

  • Well, see, it's not like smoking cigarettes. The health risks of cigarettes have been backed by extended research. The issue is with silica in crystalline forms, NOT the hydrated / amorphous forms used in cosmetics and other consumer products. (hydrated) Silica is in a lot of toothpastes (Crest, Colgate, even Tom's natural toothpaste!), so let's all avoid brushing our teeth too... just in case.

  • Silica in small quantities won't hurt you. AND if you purchase it in herbal form...*horsetail herb*

  • Yeah the thought of breathing in a cloud of siica everyday is not worth it. Just mix it with a heavier powder.

  • yes do your research on the chemicals used.. NOT peoples reviews or opinions then judge.

  • Thanks for sharing! I think I'm going to try diluting it with another loose powder too.

I bought a 30 gram sifter jar from eBay for a couple dollars and transferred some of the product into that, which makes it a lot easier to work with.

  • agreed. people really need to do their own research about it from legitimate sources.

i think there's more 'opinions' (good or bad) than there are actual facts floating around regarding the safety.

i don't see it on EDM website anymore, but they used to sell like a nice sized jar w/ sifter for $2. i think that $4 puff jar might be nicer for storage since it's self-dispensing.

  • I hope that nothing happens to you, you're so gorgeous and sweet! I hope you switch to an alternative, I'm just fearful of any product that could cause harm. I know a lot of companies use silica in their cosmetics, but it still worries me! I was going to buy the MUFE HD powder, but I decided not to when I found it it's silica. I currently use La Mer The Powder and it's phenomenal! It has 2.5 times more than MUFE, you should definitely splurge on the La Mer The Powder, it's made of pearls. =P

  • Makeup forever has a HD Microfinish Powder $30...

Sets the foundation and slightly mattifies skin without changing its natural contours. This 100% mineral silica powder softens the appearance of imperfections. Completely evens out the complexion for a glowing, radiant look. One universal shade for all skin tones.

What else you need to know:

It's completely translucent and goes on any skintone. Its talc-free formula does not dry the skin and is formulated with 100% silica.

  • I got the 1 ounce as well, and the way I store it is buy using a 30 gm sifter jar from Coastal Scents. Its not messy at all when I use the silica. I just hold my breath as I apply it to my face and all is well! I really like it, I find that my t-zone stays nice and non-greasy throughout the day.

  • Why would there be a risk lol its just makeup

  • you can get cancer from it if you use in unmixed form

  • Then Why Do People Use it. Must not be that harmful.

  • lol wow ,people smoke and knows it couse cancer allso so maby they dont care about life :/ idk

  • I GUESS LOL

  • GOOD ONE.lol.funny answer but so true. Whenever my close friends start taking out their cigarettes, id say "cancer sticks". but they'd laugh and start smokin neway :) same question, why do we buy the 88 palette(i did), if we know they're from china. same thing with the whole silica powder thingy. but its unmixed, and thats worse

  • thnx, but i hope thats not true i want the 88 palette i havent bought one yet :/ becouse mac keeps puting out collections :).

the eyeshadow is mixed allready so how is are they the same?

  • Why would there be a risk? Anything you use for your body is a risk, unless it's approved or not rejected by your body. Anyone can have any type of reaction to any approved products. That's like asking, why can't I eat that it's just food..?!

  • Sorry, I was responding to KrazeE4purple.

  • Well its just powder so if people worry about if it will kill you then dont buy it duh lol there's no big deal its just powder. That's my opinion that i'm entitled to as you are too.

  • Isn't the Palladio rice powder useful to absorb all the oil in your face? or is this Silica Powder Spheres better? I don't think I want to try it after soooo... many bad comments about it but I was just curious...

  • use an alternative please. we don't want anything bad happens to you. what do u choose an oily skin or a respiratory problem. from here, it looks like asbestos... it looks very fine once you inhale it goes all the way to you down your lungs. i just care about you! :)

  • I love this makeup on you!

Is it sth like the neutral glam tutorial look you did?

Can you do a tutorial on this look if it's not? :)

You look really professional here too!

  • Come on people if it was REALLY that bad, then they would make sure it wasn't available to the general public.

Obviously don't inhale the stuff on purpose, but you will be just fine.

  • Ok ok lets not jump on her or coastal scents. You do not like the product then do not buy it.But if you do just becareful and use it safely it is like all products use it incorrectly it can be harmful.. Just use common sense.I myself will not use it,But I will continue using coastal scents..

  • thanks for sharing this but I hope you stop using that product because its not really good for your health. peace :))

  • I just got mine today. I have seen videos where people are talking against this product. I'm not sure why because it is pure silica powder and so is the HD from Makeup Forever so if one is not good for you the other should not be either. The HD cost 30. for a much smaller amount. I'm not saying to buy it or not buy it . Just giving my opinion. I have only used it once it felt nice on my face I did not really see a difference. So, if I don't use it again 4.00 is no big lost.

  • personally not interested in this product

but thank you coz this video would help the ones that are actually using it

    Ave

  • Dont use any cosmetics with a chance of serious bad effects Xteeener. Wouldnt want you to suffer ill health.

  • nvm lol

  • what do the spheres do?

  • Comment removed

  • what are the health risks?

  • inhaling the product

  • I am a respiratory therapist and I believe the risk is that inhaling a significant amount could lead to a lung disease called silicosis. This is also a risk however with inhaling micas, talc, or any other powders. Probably best if you are going to use any of these that you use something that does not disperse a lot of the dust into the air for you to breath. Hope this helps.

  • ohhh god, i once accidentally inhaled some Clinique powder...thats not good=(

  • What do the spheres do anyway

  • Ah nevermind, got it.

  • Thats just some PROVEN sideeffects and notes on the powder, but each to their own, if you wan to use the powder then by all means feel free to do so.

  • And that Kathy lady closed her YT account cuz she knows she's wrong!

  • wow i have some similar products from pure luxe... and i love them... was not aware of all of this controversy

  • I think the main issue about the controversy is the VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE & RELATIONS of that company. I'm never going to buy anything from CS ever again and they have already lost a bunch of other existing and potential customers.

  • i <3 the look you're wearing in this vid...very natural look

  • Why are you so pretty?

  • LOL i know right. shes gorgeous =X

  • my goodness, people leave the most amusing comments. liz is completely correct and states her information well. furthermore, do you believe MUFE would dare to release a product that they could get sued over? that would be a catastrophe.

  • of course mufe wouldn't release a product they could get sued over, but they probably also made their decision based upon the same research the fda used to allow silica usage in cosmetics. in other words, they don't know any better. i'm not saying silica is bad or good, but i think concerns about it are valid. i mean, the fda also allowed drugs like fen-phen back in the day, but we all know (hopefully) how that went.

  • amazing review :DD

and i heard the same review, but being bad.

  • Hi,

I tend to be more dry especially in the winter and it seems to dry me out now but I will retry it once it gets warmer.

  • thanks for the honest review!! I'm not a chemist but i did my research when I heard about the controversy. Silica is used in a lot of cosmetic products. Different chemical compounds come in different forms. This particular form of slicone used in cosmetic products is a totally different story than the ones that causes silicosis to overexposed miners. There's a reason why it is FDA approved. nevertheless, the Kathy woman was really rude.

  • what is the controversy?

  • I don't like using to much on my face anyways so I doubt I would buy it risk or no. I only have one powder foundation x3

  • and your skin actually looks really really good at the moment!!!! well done!

  • great review. helpful as always! thank you!

  • I don't care. . i am not going to buy it to be on the safe side. dont blame it on erica...she was only trying to warn people.

  • I totally agree. Most ppl dont research what they buy and put on thier skin. Erica provided a review based on proven scientific research not on personal openion. Also Exteener u should know that CS don't advocate this poweder be used on its own on ur skin, it should be used in some sort of a formulation, preferably in a manner that binds the small particles so that they are not so easily airborn and inhaled. i would never buy this even though i love CS's other products.

  • PROVEN scentific research? Ohh, really! Come on, you know, everyone knows that there are no research indicating that silica is dangerous, People believe what they read on random blogs. DONT use blogs to find out what is true/untrue about anything medical related. Use Medline, where you can see what has been Proven through scientific research. Trust me, I am a medical student.

  • i agree that blogs aren't exactly the best place for "scientific research," but as a medical student, you should also know that things that have been proven "safe" by the scientific community in the past have been proven to be unsafe by the same community many years later (e.g. cigarettes). as a scientific researcher, i know that much.

  • I have been trying to repl to ur comment with some websites but for some reason YT wont allow me. for instance, Prof Hoff from U.S. Department of Energy states that "If silica gel is finely divided -- ground into a very fine powder -- the

dust can be very irritating to the membranes of the nose, throat, and lungs. Inhalation of

silica dust can lead to the serious lung disease, silicosis." A german engineering company notes that "Dust affects respiratory system, causes irritation to eyes.

  • Additionally, they strongly advocate that you do NOT breathe in the dust &not allow skin contact. AS a personal precaution "Avoid dust formation. Use personal protective equipment" toxicological report notes "Avoid dust formation. Prolonged exposure may cause chronic effects,May result in drying of mucous membranes.May cause irritation of the respiratory tract. May cause stomach discomfort, skin irritation. Causes eye irritation, Prolonged/repeated exosure to dust may cause pulmonary problems"

  • Can you tell me who Erica is and if her original video is still on youtube pertaining to the silica powder?

  • Hi BeachTrees, Sorry i tried to locate Ericas original silica powder video but i cant locate it for some reason and i can't remember her youtube name :( sorry love.

  • Thanks for trying, I ended up finding her youtube account but she deleted the video along with the other video that had to do with CS so I couldn't see it anyways. Oh well, I learned a bit more about them from other youtubers :)

  • I think she deleted it

  • I have chosen to stop purchasing coastal scents products due to the unprofessional way they dealt with a valid question about the safety of an undiluted product. The fact that they were so unprofessional shows me they are not worth doing business with. If people really want to use their products, I would suggest buying the palettes on ebay. They are the same thing, but you would not be supporting a company with such terrible customer service.

  • I agree...that Kathy woman was out of line. She is, as I understand it, one of the owners...so her actions really will reflect on the company. And erica is not the only one that they do something like this too...this did this to makeupsquare for giving a bad review on their brushes.

  • People have gone all crazy because of one review. You shold read the description box to the right for you. It is true what xteener is saying. YOU should do your own research, and not trust blindly on one person (erica) who clearly is bitter, for something which I dont understand. Just because that coastal scent lady was rude to her, doesnt mean that coastal scent products are bad.

Try to separate the two of them. And by the way you can buy the same palettes on ebay for a cheaper price,,

  • Hey there. I'm not sure why you think I am bitter. I'm really not. When I made that first video, I never knew all of this would happen. I only found some information and thought I should share, I said in that video to do your own research and I also stuck up for that company. I have ordered from coastal scents for a long time and I'm not bitter in anyway. I agree people need to research it. I've found some interesting things on government websites. Oh and I never said all of their stuff was bad

  • I watched ur video on this and i found it very helpful! everyone always wants the best deal out there, and if i didnt stumble ur video, i might have bought this product. So thank you for informing us youtubers! ;)

  • i watched your video as well. I agree with u. No offence, i dont really trust anything from china. ESPECIALLY COSMETICS. the most id use is the 88 palette. i bought mine from eBay. no logo on it. and its the SAME THING. i was a chemistry major. and silica is harmful .duh, even babies know that

  • ya me too? if it's from china... i really double or triple thinking before go for it. I remember those lipsticks that has cancerous ingredients that was on the news before ... so scary. Made in china cosmetics forget it heheh

  • Keep in mind that even "US" brands or non-China-made cosmetics are dangerous. MAC Lipsticks have been found to have lead in them.

We put toxins in our skin everyday anyway.. do your research.

    :)

  • erica never claimed their products were bad! she also defended the company in her video.. the reason shes "bitter" is because the owner was unprofessional in how she handled things!

  • Honestly who would want to buy from a company that is unprofessional and rude to their customers. CS can't take it when people have a negative review on their products. This isn't the first time that CS has bashed for leaving a negative review. I mean that's ridiculous. Also a lot of those gurus that have left good reviews on their products got them for free. If it's not a good review they don't want to hear it.

  • yea i know. im really upset abbout the health risks. i mean i thought it was ok.. but health is way more important that beauty.

  • Kathy (owner of CS) is a bitch : (((, I'm really disappointed on how unprofessional she is and how she insulted ericaleigh777 so easily in mass email.

  • Look at the cs website, they have tons of other "loose" ingredients. Read up on it, they sell a silicone oil alone which is amazing, coconut oil i believe, and mica methicone which has absorbent properties as well. Among many others. It's all their, just go to the site and read. =) Get creative with what you can use.

  • Its the same exact thing as mufe 100% silica powder. I believe if you wear a good primer people with dry skin shouldnt be concerned. Its amazing for undereyes. And really gives a soft focus finish. The concerns of inhaling it you can easily avoid by transferring this product into sifter jars. They aren't that expensive so buy 5-10 if need be to hold the entire product. You'll never run out. lol.

  • in every video i watch, there's always people asking about her braces. what's up with that?

  • what is that?? anyone want to give me a update??

  • what is it used for?

  • Its a finishing or setting powder.

  • mach help thanks

  • what can I do to cover my redness from my cheeks ?......

  • green concealer, salmon concealer, skin tone concealer.

    :]

  • Mine just arrived today, and I used a very dense buffer brush with it. It is very messy though. I can't find a large enough sifter jar.

  • I love this product. I have large pores and wrinkles and it does help. My face feels so smooth. It works well in a sifter jar. I pat it on with a blush brush. Thanks for the review.

  • Great review!! Totally unbiased, I was planning on mixing it with my mineral veil. Thanks a lot!!

  • ok so what is the diffence between the makeupforever powder and the coastal scents one besides the price?????

  • The size of the ..powder spheres? I guess. Makeupforever should be a bit more smooth, but not enough to constitute costing as much as it does.

  • there is no difference what so ever.

make up forever only charges you for brand name and packaging.

  • Absolutely nothing. It is 100% silica. It just comes in a sifter jar. Which you can buy alone for much much cheaper.

  • Comment removed

  • thanks for the review.......

    very helpful

    keep up the good work

    ur loyal subscriber :)

  • Nope, I would never use silica powder on my face. Of course you're gonna inhale it. Inhaling this stuff is what can be quite unhealthy. Don't underestimate the cumulative effect. Don't risk your health simply for your beauty. It's not worth it.

  • are you wearing the silica powder on in this video

  • i really like your makeup here

can you make a tutorial for it?

  • i have this powder and i'm brown skinned. i was very lighthanded w/it. i even used a eye brush to dab it on parts of my face very lightly. in pics, ppl said my fdation looked ashy (which it normally doesnt). I'm almost wondering if this is the same as the MUFE hd powder, cuz i tried that on my face and it neverrrrrrrrrrr made me look ashy. and i mean i caked the mufe powder on too like i used a lot of it to top off my makeup.

  • WHAT IS CS Silica Powder Spheres???? WHAT IS IT USED FOR?

  • she already explained that in the video. just click on the link in the sidebar.

  • more info on thebeautybrainsDOTcom/2009/02/17/is-silica-powder-in-makeup-forever-hd-powder-dangerous/

  • Scientific facts:

The Silica used in cosmetics and personal care products is in the amorphous form. This means that there is no clear order to the arrangement of the atoms, unlike crystalline silica, which has a clear order to the arrangement of the atoms.

CRYSTALLINE silica of respirable size (less than or equl to 10 micrometer) may cause lung inflammation or cancer when it is in air and enters the lungs. CRYSTALLINE SILICA IS NOT USED AS A COSMETIC INGREDIENT.

    source: cosmeticinfoDOTorg

  • And there you have it. Now we can all breath easy (no pun intended)

  • Oh, and to add another fun fact:

    Safety Information

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has reviewed the safety of Silica and permits its use as an anticaking agent and for other uses in food. Silica as silica aerogel is Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) for use in food as an anti-foaming agent. Silicon Dioxide is Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) for use in paper and paperboard coming into contact with food.

  • but not in such a high concentration

  • Then what is the Make Up For Ever HD powder?

    Pure silica.

  • go liz!

  • its in a different form

  • the kind of silica powder used in cosmetics is not a problem. Hydrated silica (aka silicone dioxide) is a mineral used in many mineral makeup products including Makeup Forever HD and Coastal Scents. This type of silica doesnt react with lung tissue like the crystalline form does so these products are safe to use.

  • its not the same as the diva defense primer is it??????

  • putting the whole health risks aside...I have this silica powder from coastal scents and I didn't notice a difference when I used it....I was real disappointed wit the product because it didn't do much for me :( oh and this product is very easily inhaled!! it is not like regular powder it is very finely grinded and when you open up the jar a lot! of product comes out by itself and becomes airborn very quickly...I tried holding my breath while I used it but that didn't work I still inhaled some

  • why is this product considered unsafe?

    xo

  • I just got this last week. I have tried it like 3 times. I for one dont know if the results are worth whatever "risks" there may be for using it. I just didnt see what the big deal is with the finish. In other words.. I didnt notice a difference.. but Im not oily .. maybe thats why.

  • You looked so gorgeous in this video! thanks for the review!

  • Anyone who has taken a basic geology course would understand the principle minerals of glass and concrete: silica.

I'd be more worried about Silicosis than cancer.

  • my issue is not the safety of the product, i understand that it is for the most part safe, but i'm unhappy with coastal scents business practice and will take my business to tk trading.

  • well mayb u should try mufe powder, im thinkin about trying that out too, i heard many many good reviews abt it.. =)

  • 1) There is a difference between crystalline silica and spherical silica. Spherical silica is what is used in cosmetics.

    2) MUFE Silica = spherical ~ 7 µm* (MUFE MUA on HSN. Youtube video)

TKB Trading Silica = spherical ~ 5 µm (website)

CC Silica = spherical ~ 12.7 µm (website)

    All are just silicone dioxide.

As long as you don't snort the stuff like coke everyday, the powder does not pose any health risks. If I ingest too much water, it dilutes the blood, and I die. Good 'ol water...

  • Like I said, there is a difference between silica approved for cosmetics. If silicone dioxide can not be used at 100% concentration, then there is a problem with the MUFE silica powder being sold at Sephora.

  • itsliz89: I love you. Thank you. I was going to post a similar comment but you covered it all just perfectly.

You're always awesome with the comments. :)

  • I bought this a few weeks ago and I also bought the 30g sifter jar with it. The jar makes it a lot less messy. I love this powder! It really helps to control oil.

  • Nice video :)

  • i would mix it with my face primer

  • Good tips on applying. I think I'll just stick to cornsilk products. Same results but with no health risks.

  • what about the make up forever hd powder, is it similar to it?

  • Yea, I rather not risk it.

  • kewl i like all the cool bags and things u always have in the back :) check out my so what video. always comment
