Penn State uses their band and has many other cheers led by cheerleaders that we scream without music, the music just adds to the already pumped up crowd. Don't assume we only use music during our games when you have only seen a couple of youtube videos.

Ten to fifteen years ago, very few college stadiums pumped music into the PA system because the band and cheerleaders got the crowd going. Now almost every major college stadium in the country uses some music to pump up the crowds as well. "Zombie Nation" and "Black Betty" for kickoffs, "Hells Bells" for 3rd down situations, and even "Celebration" for victories. Plus, they'll play music during timeouts or official reviews ("Jeopardy!" think cue).

y'all should check out the A&M student section. Herbstreit also called that one the best in the nation. They don't need music they have several of their own cheers led by yell leaders

I have to disagree with you on this one, because there are several colleges/universities that do blare music over the PA system. Rutgers, Miami (FL), West Virginia, Penn State, Kentucky, just to name several. Expect to hear "Hells Bells" at your college stadium in the future. ;-D

My experience is at Wisconsin, where I spent 5 years in the student section. Although Badgers make the most of the fact that Camp Randall staff would rather blast stuff over the PA than let the marching band play (try looking up "Jump Around" and "Wisconsin Build Me Up Buttercup" to see what I mean), it's still really stupid that some people try to replace cheering with freakin' pop songs.

How is it better to sit and listen to "Shout!" than it is to actually shout? (Or chant, cheer, etc.)

Yeah, Penn State has whipped A & M in two consecutive Alamo Bowl appearances, so A & M has nothing to brag about where PSU is concerned.. And the Aggie's fans were nowhere to be found while Penn State was hoisting the Alamo Bowl trophy in victory last December.
