I clearly remember seeing this band at the first time in austria somewhere in 1982... I first thought my ears gonna die tonight, so much noisy pain... but two weeks later I recognized the huge weight of art... the neubauten is one of the best bands from germany!
Sooooo, idk if you'd call my music "industrial" but it's damn close! Stop by and check out my music, Unknown Sightings and Unforgotten Space are 2 of my favorites, but listen to them all if you have the time and show your friends. =) I hope people can enjoy my music some day.
This makes me want to go to a junkyard and beat the shit out of a broken washing machine with a lead pipe, and scream into a microphone while my band beats the shit out of other loud metal objects! Thank you for being so influential to me Neubauten!
the hole-digging guy later left the band cuz they found it easier to playback his part in live performances. He should have a solo in this one though.
Love this! It may be a part of Halber Mensch, but it is still an entity unto itself. A piece on the side of the road constructed from the road and its elements. A part of it all but still apart. to be no part of it. But still connected all the same. Isn't that all of us? More or less? Or less? less. Maybe.
Why not dig a hole? Everything that is sound is potentially music. If you record it, you could use it. Everything has a pitch and tone and timbre even if it doesn't fit into the narrow definition of the masses of what that might be.
I agree, but I've come to realize that it doesn't even pay to hate mainstream music; it's all laughable, dismissable, shameful, and artistically weak. Why bother, I say.
Its not that it can't be used because it doesn't make a traditionally "musical" sound, its that Its not present in the song, I can't HEAR the digging sound. Thats what made me sad, I wanna hear the digging sound :c
@DarkMedievalTimes1 As far as I know, yes it is live and real. They loved playing and recording in random, site specific settings such as inside an autobahn overpass and a in a disused water tower. They use contact mics (mics that stick to things with tape essenitally) for the more unusual instruments such as the shopping cart in Zerstörte Zelle. Maybe it didn't work so well for the shovel.
@iamguitarmutt@steinber I was looking for this video, and found (so far) 2 version, but they are both cut short. When I saw this originally way back on Much Music, guy put something explosive in the hole and blew it up at the end. Must have been fricken stricken in this pansy post 911 world.
yah i can appreciate that, i like it personally all the noises creating something, but like hah its not for every one i can definitely see how its not a "masterpiece" to every one, acquired taste maybe?
For me this is not music. Its sound, that sounds like music. In order to litsen to this kind of music one need to first get rid of what one usually call "music" and just appriciate this for what it is. Just as you can appreciate the sound of waves or the sound of birds (Btw, after litsening to noise I realized that fuck. Bird tweets sounds kinda like noise)
@W4RW017 I have to disagree. If you look away from the distraction of the video you can easily discern a structure and coherence. This is a rather radical way to produce the sounds needed but it is music nonetheless.
Nice to see the near-spontenaity...but after a while such things become contrived. Einstürzende Neubauten may be a little pretentious but it is lost in the sheer art of it all...slytherchick.
What, so i walk past a construction site, record the fucking noises, shout some shit in german, and suddenly its great music? Fuck no, this is just lazy bullshit.
This is even an odd song compared to what they are mostly doing. I think they just felt the need to do something off the beaten path, for a change. If you have an idea like this, perhaps a harp or a pan flute wouldn't do the job and then you visit a construction site, why not?
Like, look at his eyes and his forehead. They're so dark! Totally different from the Blixa I know. And geeze, he looks very, very skinny here. I definitely like him better like this, definitely.
He's darkened his eyebrows with make-up, he used to put eyeliner on one eye (I think it's the left in this) & that would make his eyes look strange. His hair's covering his forehead so I can't tell that looks dark. Also you have to remember this is about 1983 (I might be wrong) Blixa was a lot skinnier then. He's 50 now so he's just filled out over the years. If you follow him through his career, you'll see how his hairstyle has evolved from this video until now, hope this was helpful.
Yeah, I've seen him throughout his career from all the way from Kollaps. Just didn't knw that information, woah. This is from OT, he looks a lot more different from that all the way to Halber Mensch, which was only one more album from this.
I LOVE this!!! Sounds just like the elevator music I hear all day long in my head... that's when I don't hear "the voices" telling me to hurt myself and others... Haha... Much respect to Blixa Bargeld and EN.

if the world got destroyed and humans survived some how. this is what the first music of the post apocalypse would sound like.....and i fucking love it !!!!!!!!!
Looks like the first musicians after the end of the world. kind of like when that monkey in 2001 picks up the bone and that's man's violent future, this could be man's musical future in "the next cycle"
Every time I go to the bathroom, a massive torrent of semi-fluid urine/diarrhea will come pouring out of my anus and encrust my chair, my pants, and my legs in a crusty orange paste. Then I will be fossilized to my chair until someone comes along who is brave enough to endure the reaking odor and to cross the fecal marsh of mush radiating from my stool dares to break his water...bucket over my head and peel away the festering refuse that caked me.
Yep, I think the confusion lies in the fact that the video is called Halber Mensch but this track is Vanadium-I-Ching. In seeing the title "Excerpt from Halber Mensch" and no mention of Vanadium-I-Ching, I assumed it would be from the track Halber Mensch. Yes, I know... my incorrect assumption. Yet it seems other people were confused too. Anyway, a nice track :-)
"Schrei lauter / Schlag schneller / Bis zum Kollaps!" Kinda fits here too... So you'd have a Strategegien Gegen Architekturen Neubauten-style kind of taste, I presume...? Nicht schlecht, gar nicht schlecht :)
Strange thing about industrial is it indeed is deconstructive, anti-architecture, but the industrial images are still focussed on these pieces of construct. They're just in a state of collapse, or being destroyed. I'm really intrigued by them. They are true artists.
Agreed. Thought I would give a fuller reference in my posting above. Would have liked to post a direct URL to the official track listing and lyrics but can't post URLs in text answers like this on YouTube. I love you. Oh, and it sounds like a version of "Vanadium-I-Ching". Very different on the LP Zeichnungen des Patienten O.T., but extremely haunting in its own way.
Yes blixa bargeld is the frontman/singer... he is a genius. I agree it is insane and so am I. Haha. Blixa is about your age now. So you're not that old. Besides being 52 years old has nothing to do with it.

I love you. Oh, and it sounds like a version of "Vanadium-I-Ching". Very different on the LP Zeichnungen des Patienten O.T., but extremely haunting in its own way.

There's so much that can be said about the brilliance of EN's ouvre, but all I can think of now is how adorable young Blixa Bargeld is.
I love his crazy Muppet hairdo.

Yes blixa bargeld is the frontman/singer... he is a genius. I agree it is insane and so am I. Haha. Blixa is about your age now. So you're not that old. Besides being 52 years old has nothing to do with it.

Dieses ist, daß FMIE Sache nicht es ist? Meine großartige Tochter erklärte mir über dieses. Insain. Und eine Haustiersite? Wie lähmen Sie.
