I had a z 550 (kz) 1981 got it new it was timed at 125mph with my 225 lb ass on it. Would hide the speedo in 3rd gear. I think it was one of my fastest small bore bikes.
i have an 82 that will bury the speedomoeter in third gear without tryin. the top speed is about 145. there are no steering issues or wobbles. get new tires!

I only weighed 110lbs , the bike before the gpz was an old S-2 kawawsaki, 3 cylinder 2 stroke, but the gpz was bad ass, .I cut down the seat foam , 5.10 slick,wheelie bars , smaller front sproket, kerker pipe, drilled the jets, slotted the ignition pickup plate to advance the timeing.and velosity stack air breathers,hotter spark plugs/wires. I could wheelie through all 6 gears. Thats WITHOUT wheelie bars ofcoarse.

@oldtubbydogs well.... it dosn't start at all haha. the engine was making noise so it has sadly been sitting outside under a tarp for about 2 years now. from what i remember about it... it usually started right up but i couldn't accelerate until it warmed up a bit.
My Old Kawi 550 ltd would do 115 mph indicated with me flat on the tank. Was actually quite stable too. Great little motor in its day and fun to ride. Miss that bike. Something about just hopping on a bike and buzzing around was just great fun.
@nikkaw88 I have an '82 KZ550 LTD, but that light doesnt come on when I apply the breaks. The break lights come on so is there something wrong with that sensor you think?
@younycorn it may be a low fuel light on your 82 but at the very end of the video you can clearly read "stop lamp". also it turns off when i put it neutral because i released the brake lever... and yes once i replaced the tires, and got them balanced the wobble went away.
my 82 550 kz is pretty fast off the line (at least faster than my buddies' bikes) but gets really hairy over 75-80 mph... takes balls to try that stunt!!
does anyone know why my 550 ltd redlines when im going 70 mph? I cant drive on the highway, because it sounds like its about to blow?? When im at 60 mph, its at about6,500 rpm's? and its a 6 speed!! Nice video though

I used my stop watch, about 6.10 seconds 0-60. A good stocker should probably run 112-115 mph.

my 550 also has a low fuel light. It is half as bright as the brake indicator light, but uses the same lense.

@nikkaw88 That klight is also an indicator lamp. It will stay on to let you know there is an engine electrical malfunction somewhere. Check the book.
