For years I remembered the music in that Michelob commercial until I discovered around 2004 that it was an actual song by Wang Chung when I rented the movie "To Live and Die in L.A." Someone else (maybe it was you) had this commercial up a few years ago; thanks for putting it back up.
Wow, imagine being able to use your ATM card to make purchases at the grocery store! By the way, ATM cards have not made lines all that speedy, in my opinion, but nice try, Lucky's!
Omg, you know how on Family Guy Peter says commercials lead you into a false sense of security? Yeah, 2:12 to 2:40. At first I was like :D but then I was like D:
@Hethrin i got johnson & johnson shampoo in my eye the other day and it burned like hell, i was actually jumping around in the nude it hurt so bad. so yeah, this kid has balls.
I for one think its awesome you posted all these old commercials. it takes me back to a much simpler time as a little kid. as far as i am concerned all the people on here who waste your time by insulting you should just watch something else if they dont like this! damn whiners! thanks again
I always loved the last commercial, the Michelob commercial with the "Live and Die in L.A." song in it from Wang Chung. "The Night Belongs to Michelob."
@thegiffer On the side he looks like Matthew McConaughey, but up front at 9:00 he doesn't. I really don't think it is him but I can try to find out for you:)
Thank You for sharing all of these 80's commercials. These commercials make you laugh, they make you cry and they remind of what it was like to be a child of the 80's. Thanks :)
In case nobody else did, I thought I'd point out that the son in the Hot Pockets commercial appears to be Noah Hathaway, better known as Atreyu from the Neverending Story.
@StormsongK Awesome. Hopefully its presented in its original, innovative form, and not some souped-up CGI, George Lucas-esque modified version. Thanks for the heads up. Ill look for it!
Breakfast sausage in America is ground meat (pork & beef) with a lot of seasoning, and comes in small rolls or patties. It's very different from your typical Brautworst or the kind of sausage eaten for breakfast in the UK...and also much tastier.
Dear 80sCommercialVault, I first saw this compilation over a year ago. I'm an avid viewer of your compilations and due to recent events, I've got two words:
1) Congratulations on the new leash of life Gorillaz have given a certain commercial that's at the very beginning, causing the viewers of your videos to go bonkers
and
2) I'm glad to have known the thing even before it came out, making the song even more surprising and enjoyable to me!
The views don't seem to have ballooned as much as I thought they would, but maybe this is just the beginning.
I am slightly disappointed they didn't give me an album credit, as I'm 99% positive that this video is not only how they were exposed to the Swanson commercial, but where they got the audio from as well.
They gave credit to Swanson, so even if this is where they saw the video (and I'm sure it's not, since Damon Albarn is most likely older or as old as you) they got the sounds from Swanson's commercial bank, not your video.
Look, just because some British guy is older than me doesn't mean this isn't where he was exposed to the commercial. How would a group composed of Brits even be exposed to an 80's American TV commercial in the first place? AFIAK, I'm the first (and only) person who's even posted this specific ad on the internet.
I've actually compared the audio waveforms between this video and the sample used in the song. Aside from some added reverb and noise reduction, they're the exact same.
@80sCommercialVault I don't think you need credit because you didn't direct the commercial, nor did you star in it. Swanson should get credit because they created the disgusting breakfast thing, and they directed the commercial. Yes, you put up the video (and good for you too, because I like it), but I don't think Damon Albarn and co. should put you in their pamphlet. Personally speaking
I'm not saying that they should be forced to credit me...it's just something that a nice person would do. Especially since I'm certain they grabbed the audio sample from this video specifically.
Assuming the audio is taken from this video (which seems a very safe assumption to me) then 80sCommercialVault is the one who 1) located the audio they used and 2) put the audio into a digital format that they could use.
Since he was in no way compensated for doing so, yeah, I think that deserves a "Thank you."
Yeah, in some ways I'm kind of sad that this will most likely overtake all of my other videos shortly, but whatever. More viewers/fans is always good. Thanks Gorillaz!
I always wondered why the Wang Chung song was so popular in promotionals at the time, when it essentially compares L.A. to Sodom & Gomora? But then... (And often with only marginal connection to the song!) And I found that amusing over the years. As far as the 'City-of-Sin' reference, I went and listened to the song again. Seems I was a bit off. More like the song is saying thier lives are pointless & decedent rather than evil! But bottom line! I the like ads & the music
