I was looking for the song "Copper Kettle." Didn't care who was performing it. Never heard of a Devendra Banhart. Couldn't care less if the person singing turned out to be a drugged out tranny that makes Rufus Wainright look butch. But this drugged out tranny couldn't carry a tune in a copper kettle and that's amazing considering that even Dylan couldn't ruin the song 40 years ago singing with a crushed larynx.
He is so eccentric and confused with so many issues that I could never trust him....... Let's just say that if he showed up at my door to babysit my children he would immediately be sent away
I love sleeping beneath the junipers as much as anybody, but this song is about moonshining. The junipers are smell of freedom while fermenting cornmeal mash smells like dogshit. This performance is alright but it lacks the defiance that hailing your own moonshine is about.
Correction in lyric: "We havnt paid any whisky tax since 1792." -since lyric varies.... His line sounded like "we havnt had to pay whisky tax since 1792..."
An actor chameleon. He's representing the character of the period of the songs. From the facial expressions to the grain in the film it's like silent films of early last century. And yeah he looks like a chick but I think that's the point. Expect him not to stay the same.
i definitely think that joan baez did this 100000000000000000 times better. but this is interesting. i love devendra banhartttt. c: his voice sounds entirely different for some reason. prepubescent, almost?
It is great for what he brings to it making it his song. The Joan Baez version I will always love from my childhood playing that song over and over again.
The outfit is great too.
That is a hostess dress alright. Deviled eggs and cocktails.
You should be happy that Natalie Portman has her claws into him if he offends you, maybe he WILL sell out now and make songs with empty, ignorant lyrics that make people buy stuff and obsess about their appearance. Please stay strong Devendra you are on to something this planet needs...
Its like a catch 22. It would be if artists like him were mainstream and his message was not only heard but believed, but in order to reach a mass audience he would have to sell his soul to the corporate machine, making himself a commodity to be marketed (yes your so called x-factor). Also why you people so offended that girls are going gaga for him or that he is frolicking around Natalie Portman, completely irrelevant, and it suggests more about your insecurities than anything else.

Gosh, Im going to have to throw a wrench in this love fest for this guy. Music is subjective, so to each their own so here goes: Ill listen to him but he is a midlevel artist at best. He lacks the x-factor to cross over boundaries and reach a mass audience. As for girls going gaga for him, hes got a guitar and sings, good enough to get Natalie Portman, so nuff said.
whoa, hat's Devendra? Never actually seen him beardless before. Its hard to connect the 2 Devendras - sort of like clean and moustachiod Nick Cave I guess...
yeah, I like the 'bohemian' look on guys... I love long hair and beards.. like him and men who look like Rob Zombie *swoons* idk, I cant explain it.. my friends dont get it either lol
people are going mental trying to psychoanalyse him haha, listen to him simply. yeah he is pretty deep, but you know..you're gonna get it wrong either way. no one knows him except him.
Well, first of all, you need to open whatever recording program you might be using. Then go to your Master Volume (speaker icon) and under "Options" choose "Properties". Click on "Recording". This will then give you several options. Select "Stereo Mix". Start recording. Good luck.

This guy has just completely butchered this song. It's mountain music, not queer-art shit. He just doesn't get how out of orbit he is. Drugs and mascara...whatever.
i love devendra banhart...i have for a long time, and he is not gay, he is himself, he is enlightened, he is DEVENDRA BANHART. he is an artist. and what an artist.
I wouldn't go that far, its not self based, he has a sort of tragic desire to share everything he loves, but sadly everyone cant like evrything he does, so he just tries harder, hence how he comes across pretentious. I love his music dearly, butI hope other peoples lack of passion for what he loves doesnt tip him over the edge

This guy is a silly poof. The real tragedy here is not that he is wierd, a freak, a fag. It is that he thinks he is really important and original. This is simply what you get when you cross a queen with bad drugs.
The guy is sort of hot until he starts signing, but....
this is a song about making moonshine. It is best sung to a single guitar or banjo, by one guy in overalls. I suppose I'll have to accept that people are singing it into microphones, but for heaven's sake! The song stands on it's own! There is no reason to flail like that.
This is a really terrible rendition of a beautiful song. If you like the lyrics hes singing you should check out other artist performing this song. Less pageantry and more talent.
I ran across this accidentally. Could this guy have more talent?!!! This is one of the most amazing performances I've ever seen. Reminded me a bit of Syd Barrett from early Pink Floyd songs. SO UNIQUE!
pretentious bullshit. this guy is all self importance selling itself as something profound. the dude isn't so much a freak as a cartoon of a freak.
