If Sufism helps people feel closer to Allah, then I don't see why it should be such a harmful thing, as the Wahabbis think. Not everyone feels a connection to the dry orthodoxy of Salafism. And if you're heart isn't really in Islam, it doesnt matter how austere you are. Some people prefer Salafism, some prefer Sufism. But the Sufis arent the one calling everyone else in the world Kafir.

This a Sufi dancer in Syria taped in Syria in 1980 or so. There isn't an album or anything but you are welcome to rip the audio from this clip. About midway one drummer puts his drum over the fire to tighten the drum skin. Imagine they were playing this same music a thousand years ago. Thanks for the compliment.

I read through the comments, many interesting ones, I think I actually learn more hadiths and historical backgrounds as well.. Anyways, I am still trying to understand many aspects of Islam so I wouldn't be disregarding anything too soon.. Dear muslim,

I respect your believes and I wish for the same. Sufis are taught to tolerate and tolerate i shall to you. By all means, judge all you want but sufis will stay sufis, and you shall stay stupid. Sufis don't pass judgment as they leave it to the Almighty and in the process, don't cause any resentment from others. Sufis don't go around quoting words from the Holy Book, only understanding the literal meanings. I don't expect you to accept what I've written.

No,it wasn't meant to be spiteful.I have high regard for Sufis and Sufism.Their philosophy,though certainly the minority view in Islam, is one of acceptance,non-violence,and universal love.Rumi was a great human being and philosopher.All kidding aside,he would have had no problem singing or dancing to Hava Nagila, Christian gospel music,etc.etc. etc.

I was mesmerized. Dance for me is a release, a state of being like no other, hypnotic and meditative, I have no body. All the same, how can he just spin round and round on the spot indefinitely without falling in a heap?

I've only seen this once before and that was during a concert of Oojami. I just stopped in my tracks and felt completely drawn in, i couldn't take my eyes off him.
