Boy, makes me wish Jim Henson would cross Don Draper's path on "Mad Men." Incredibly cool seeing the Muppet folks being a wee bit subversive in tone while still wearing the appropriate work attire of oxfords and ties.
4:55 LOL I just love how The Muppets were so Irreverent in their Humor back then. LOL :) Though this scene has been cut and censored in a lot of the copies of the film. It's very rare to find this uncensored version.
Wow, things were so simple . I wished we could get back to 1/2 of that. We should really try to entertain our children with simply things it worked for the masses years ago so why not now??? What we feed them should be this wholesome. I guess Im still a dreamer.
It's amazing all the innovations Jim gave to this art. I remember the Jim Henson hour introducing me to my first CG character, Waldo.. and that was 89'!. If he were alive today i bet he would still be wowing us with a brilliant marriage of CG and puppetry.
Jim's 2 Daughters in this commercial were his 2 oldest children. Lisa and Cheryl Henson. Lisa's birth name is Elizabeth Henson, after Jim's Mother- May she always rest in peace in heaven.
Jim Henson was a vegitarian? Wow that's interesting. Seems to be very much in the Fraggle Rock type theme though. Yeah I thought the shooting was abit out of character for him.
As far as I know, Jim Henson was a vegetarian as well (this seems to have been before that lifestyle change).
Also, cartoonish violence has always been a big part of the Muppet sensibilty. Though, I will admit to being a little shocked the first time I saw this. In hysterics, but shocked.
I think Jim Henson may have had mixed feelings about it too ... at the beginning of The Muppet Movie, Robin asks Kermit if this is how the muppets really got started, and the villain in that is the owner of a series of Frog-Legs restaurants who wants Kermit to advertise for him. Perhaps there was a bit more autobiography in that than initially meets the eye ....
Thank you so much for posting these Wilson's meat campaign spoofs by Jim Henson. My dad is one of the ad executives in both the videos you posted--he's the one who takes off his jacket and pushes Henson down on the table to beat him up. This is such a joy to see. Thanks again.

Interesting how some of these early Henson films have both B&W and color segments.
Akira625 3 years ago
Notice how the color segments are the revenue-generating commercials and the added stuff is what is in black and white.

Muppet King Jim Henson was A True Genius! He was an original! May he always rest in peace in eternal life in heaven!

Wow they all look so young. As a puppeteer that was very interesting to me, but as a
vegetarian I was quite offended. I didn't think Jim Henson's work was so violent either. I'm not
sure if he wrote the material.
