  • @leshager2009 Chubbs character was played by CARL WEATHERS, NOT Billy Dee Williams! It was Billy Dee who played Gale Sayers in "Brian's Song".

  • This movie and the theme had a major impact on my life. Just as Brian Piccolo died of lung cancer, so did my dad in late December of 1970. This movie and the beautiful theme song helped me cope with my dad's passing . I was 15 and a half years old when he died By the way my dad was only 53

  • @bigjohnmac He died of TESTICULAR CANCER that spread to his lungs and other organs.

  • @lemonpeg1 It had me crying more each time, saw it 4 times.

  • The movie was so sad it touched my heart in many ways

  • @cturtle59 Sorry but im not sure either.

  • Such a beautiful song from the best sports movie ever! I get teary eyed ever time I see it. Thank you for posting! I had the pleasure of getting Gale Sayer's autograph a few years ago and got to shake his hand. What a honor that was.

  • What ? you don't remember "Something for Joey"

  • Very nice

  • My Uncle Abe Gibron was in this movie and I was there in Rensaleer, Indiana when it was being shot. Abe was then the coach of the Bears and even as we sat watching it one evening, he had a tar in his eye. It was very emotional for him and especially for his wife Joy. RIP Uncle ABE and BP.

  • @greg12750 Also RIP Geroge Halas(aka PAPA BEAR). Owner, Player and coach of the Chicago Bears.

  • " GENTLEMEN, WELCOME TO THE CHICAGO BEARS.."PICK" AND "BLACK MAGIC"...JACK WARDEN DID A GREAT JOB OF THE BREIF BUT ALSO IMPORTANT NARRATION IN THE BEGINING AND END OF THE FILM.."OH HOW HE LIVED"!!

  • @TheDoug55 Jack also played the legendary coach George(Papa Bear)Halas. RIP Jack Warden.

  • such a powerful melody......my mother just passed away and this song helps me weep both tears of joy and sorrow.....her passing is simply gripping...funny thing,

i am a twin and back in the fifties when i was born they said my mom was going to have a big baby boy and my parents only had one name picked out, brian!!!!

  • This song makes me cry so much...

Its my favorite song to play on piano.

Piccolo , had he survived cancer, would be amazing.

But still , he probably knows about his movie in heaven.

He and Sayers were brave and amazing people.

  • what a movie, what a theme song... just lovely, but sad... I remember this as one of the best movies of my youth...

  • One of the all time best made for television movies. Every man cries at the end of it.

  • I think this song, and the theme from "Born On The Fourth of July" are the only musical pieces that make me tear up and break me down, and not even have to watch the actual movie to get a Kleenex.

  • I'm a 49 year old man. I've seen this movie a dozen times. It's still the only movie that can make me cry after repeat viewings. Probably the best sports movie ever made.

  • @alanhatch I totally agree...

  • i love brian picolo. and i want you to love brian picolo. and when you get down on your knees tonight (sob) besides your bed, i want you to ask God to love brian picolo

  • Such a nice piece.

  • i was like heaving on the floor when a saw this movie. so sad :(

  • Ahhhh, da only chance a Bears fan gets to cry! I couldn't remember how it went until ... now!!!

  • This was one of my favorites to skate as a young figure skater during the 70's. I never understood my mother insisting on this music until years later. Truly beautiful. Must say tears hit me now and then when looking at the old photos of competitions with this music. :O)

  • @Dontjudge4life When I studied music, one of my teachers told me that I would never be able to sing a love song or play an emotional piano piece well until I'd had my heart broken a couple of times. She was right. I was a much better performer as an adult.

  • I think this is the only football movie my mom ever watched. It brings back memories - I wasn't even 10 when it came out. You know a lot of real life Bears are in that movie - they needed the money.

  • are you sure this was written by mancini ?

  • @haroos I have the sheet music for Brian's Song, and it's really Michel Legrand's song because he wrote it as 334286 mentioned. It's been years since I've seen the movie, but it's a very pretty song.

  • if not injured Gayle Sayers all time BEST in the nfl alltime best in LIFE

  • But it isn't a Mancini melody, it's a Michel Legrand melody. Both are geniuses.

  • I have one done by Henry Mancini & Doc Severinson. The album was titled "Brass on Ivrory" released in 1972. I lalso have the Johnny Mathis, Andy Williams, Tony Bennett, Ed Ames, Robert Goulet and the Ray Conniff Versions

  • There's a lot of songs being attributed to people who didn't write them on Youtube. Someone had a video posted of songs from Forest Gump saying John Williams wrote it.

  • @DeltaFoxtrotWhiskey3 No one wrote the songs on YouTube. These songs were out long before YouTube even existed.

  • @seikogoldwatch2009 I know that, who would possibly believe that anyone wrote all these songs for youtube?

  • @334286 yes u are correct on both.

  • Perry Como did a haunting rendition of this song!

  • what a Great but sad movie this was and an awesome musical score this song, love it after all this time... so pretty...

ah the great old film classics of yesteryear and today as well, love them... LOTS of talent out there, both actor wise and musical/director wise...

  • what a song writer what a movie,no one sings this like johnny mathis.this song encomposes all of what life is about, enjoy while you can if you can, where only promised the next second if that.this next decade will be better.

  • Oh Wow!! nothing can top a Henry Mancini melody, that man really had it. I can always tell a Henry Mancini melody from the first few notes, he had such a distinctive style. And I think this melody is best played on a piano or an orchestra I think would sound good too. Thanks for this upload.

  • really love this.........and also the movie.

  • brian's song was the movie that introduced me to the game of american football...

  • I as well. Crying seems to be this whole new thing. I finally figured it out. I don't have to have it together, all the time.

  • omg i am like crying so much right now

  • if you hear it while watching the movie you will cry!!!

  • you had to be there.

  • It's the theme from Brian's song. It was about the real-life friendship of Gayle Sayers and Brian Piccolo. Piccolo died at age 26 from cancer.

  • I know Dick Butkus was very mooded on a Monday Night Football game during halftime.

  • I was in 4th grade when I saw this movie; our teacher showed to the class. I saw it 3yrs. after it came out. It made me cry and it has been a favorite of mine. The theme song still chokes me up

  • THIS SONG ALWAYS MAKES ME CRY!

  • The music stayed with me so I couldn't get it out of my head. I decided to find the lyrics, and find out more. It opened up my mind to learn where it came from, and about Brian. Thank you Internet, and thanks to you tube.

  • oh my tristan shout it to the world don't u

  • It's funny because I have a crush on a guy named Brian!!!

  • my 12 yr old son and nephew watched Brian's Song on the way home after a Bears game, it actually made me feel good to hear him say' "I think I'm going to cry". Piccolo will always be in Bears fans hearts!

  • in 1984 and class-mate and friend was diagnosed with cancer; at the same time we were reading Brian's Song in English.

I think of Chris and Brian whenever I hear this song. RIP

  • Perry Como did the most exquisite version of this song!!!

  • This is from the TV movie Brian's Song. Written by Michel Legrand. The movie is about the friendship of Gayle Sayers and Brian Piccolo who played football for the Chicago Bears. Brian died of cancer in 1970 at the age of 26.
