I seriously wish Alex never used those stupid Simmons pads instead of real drums. He actually had a Simmons pad set up in front of his real bass drums during the 86-90 tours. Sounded like a damn Synclavier drum machine. It was sooo refreshing to hear REAL drums on F.U.C.K.

@DarthKazi It was acoustic kick and snare and simmons sds7 toms only. Certain VH songs, such as Hot for teacher wouldn't sound the same without them. Agree though they sound different, but the 80's were a different time for sure LOL!

@DarthKazi The kit you see in this vid had the radial horns in them which were built by his roadie. Basically when he hit the kick, the mic would pick it up and then run through the pa and then back out the horn. Completely insane.

Hagar was just checking the wireless reception for his mic, and seeing how much the doppler effect changed the pitch up on the riser. If his distance from the speakers caused the pitch of the music to be lowered in his hears, he'd sing out of tune. The only way to test that stuff is to just ramble and talk out your a** as you move around the stage.

You do it 4 or 5 nights a week for months and years at a time, and see how original and interesting your "check-1-2" banter gets.
