  • pure 80s.

  • I loved this song back then and still love it now. Thanks for posting!!! ;-)

  • whenever i see this video i think Phil looks like Kevin Bacon.

  • 3:02 "hahahaha! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" i could watch this video over and over again. mark is adorable!!

  • Still love you, XXXX.

  • EL SALVADOR BIG MEMORIES

  • great memories living in temple tx some thing about you wow downey49

  • A song that brings back memories of adolescence and times of innocence. "We're only human after all!"

  • I love you xxxx

  • I love you, Jeff...

  • Unbelievable video....even better song.

It trips how a song of this caliber from the 80's is NOT synthesized. Show's the true talent of musicians, and the ability of Mark King to produce a fast tempo bass rythym. That "pop and slap" technique is just sick with it. It seems to me to create an almost seamless bass rythym that you would expect w/ synthesizer... Very cool.

Besides you can't knock a video w/ an AC Cobra in it!! Haha! ;)

  • You are 100% correct...on all points!

  • jus a fantastic song

  • This is by far the best video of all time!!!

  • Sorry but we can't help who trips our trigger!! Amen freakyold!!!

  • Fuck what dose he wisper in the train to the camera???!!! It's killing me to find out, is there anyone who can read lips who can tell me???!!!!!!

  • He Whispers to the Camera.....Where only human after all.

  • Who is the actress in that clip ?

  • Cherie Lunghi

  • WOW!! Thanks - for years I thought it was Jenny Agutter.

  • I remember VH! would play this song all of the time back in the day

  • The clown suit looks like a Vaudeville comedian costume. The singer dressed that way represents Cruel Fate that laughs at all of our human dramas.

  • Sometimes an ununusal-looking person like the lead singer can kinda grow on you. Remember the first time you saw Obama with those big ears?

  • freaky, agreed. Although with Obama it was the blue lips that creeped me out. However after the last 8 years , I figured a Harvard educated lawyer with a command of the English language was good enough for me. Go Barrack!

  • You're right. The lips are kinda strange looking. But he has a sincere and confident smile. Whenever Mccain smiled, he looked like he was getting an enema. And Bush's half-witted rich-boy smirk will not be missed!

  • Absolute classic. They don't make em like this anymore

  • egotrippin, no offence as I've always loved the song, but have you taken a close look at the lead singer. He is one ugly, greasy haired, frog mouthed mother fuc*er. If you're basing your relationships on this guys looks, I suggest you buy better eye glasses.

  • dude....i've thought the exact same thing since i was a little kid.

  • Thanks - it's nice to be agreed with.

  • Mark is not ugly! I would date him if I was single and I have 20/20 vision innit?

  • I agree. Mark is unusual looking but sexy

  • lol...his mouth does look rather "FROGISH". Hey thats probably why the bitch left him!

  • Watching this video makes me realize I will never get to make out with Mark King from 1987. I wanted to kiss his sexy lips sooooooo bad.

  • Mark's bass is lethal. Funkified.

  • uma boa musica sempre está presente

  • Love this song. Anybody know what the theme of this video about? It seemed to me that the lead singer plays the bad guy whenever he dresses up like a killer clown in this video. I don't know. :)

  • The lead singer in this band used to haunt my dreams when I was young!! I was in my twenties when this song was released and I fell so hard for him it was crazy!!!!!Funny but i still base all my relationships on this guy like who looks like him or who i think best captures his essence!!!

  • Can someone add the Shep Pettibone Remix please???!!!

  • i think he's saying "we're only human after all"

  • he does

  • great band....really!!

  • at 3:20-3:23 the singer says something but you can't hear what he says. does anyone know??

  • This is the shit I miss the 80's Y'all! {Est. In 1980 Here..LOL}

  • i used 2 love this song & it was put on here 4 me, just no meaning 2 it no more, so sad.

  • cherie lunghi has always been hot

  • so true , how can it be downey49

  • level 42 are the best group of the 80s

  • Why do british people lose their accents when they sing

  • Maybe they're not really British...

    Dun dun duuhh. =\

  • They are British - just FYI

All, bar keyboard player Mike Lindup hail from the Isle of Wight in England.

  • I noticed that too!

  • saw level 42 at the Royal Albert Hall, London last night.. they were amazing and the crowd went wild when they played this song!! this song is much better live youve gotta hear it!!

  • What ever became of level 42.

  • Yep its Cheri Lunghi who is doing very well on strictly come dancing here in the UK

  • I'am 33 years old, I am from Guatemala and I will not forget this song even if I am at the other side. JG.

  • This is one of my favorite 80's jams. Yes, I did get out of the car in the library parking lot and dance to it while waiting for my son! Clean fun, nothing wrong with it even if your in your 40's!

    Peace to All

  • Yeah, this was a good one from the 80's.

  • One of the most underrated bands of the 80's.

  • c'mon, they were top charts everywhere..

  • i hella forgot about this song. LOVE IT!!

  • Ah, this takes me back! Was the summer beween high school in college. Level 42 was one of the most underrated groups at the time and hit the airwaves too soon. The CD, World Machine, is excellent and timeless. Also, my fellow man has to think of that one girl where there really was something about her! Those were the days!

  • who is the hot chick in this video????

  • Cherie lunghi (think thats how its spelt) an english actress.

  • YES!!!

Cherie Lunghi played Guenevere, in the 1981 movie "Excalibur."

  • Please I would like the lirics of Something aboout you

  • I am charmed with this song. Always there is a dark magician in the loving relations !...

  • great stuff from the great 80's!!!!

    I really miss the 80's!

  • Something about you!! I like this song!!

  • Great song Loved it when I first heard it 21 years ago. My mother liked this song as well.

  • Very powerful song.

  • My oh my, Cherie Lunghi looked fine then. For her age, she still does.

  • she was about 35 in this video

  • OMG

  • aaaaahhhh memories =)

  • I love this song! it really brings me back!

  • this one is for you TY!

  • cool

  • Reminds me of lying on the beach in Aberystwyth staring up at the moon and stars then coming to and realising that I wasn't on the beach afterall but on the floor in the Ship & Castle after too many magic mushrooms

  • what a great song from a great artist.

  • Thank you God for having let us lived that era...

  • Oh how I loved this song..stil do.. This guy had/has a great voice.

  • I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it. It always will reminds me of my tour of duty in England years ago while serving in the US Air Force. It is and will always be one of my all time favorites.

  • LOVE THEM!! LOVE THIS SONG!

  • thanx for adding this. it means so much 2 me. luv you.x

  • totally he has the jack nicholson joker look

  • is it just me or does the lead singer look like the joker at the beginning when he's on the train? look at the image at 1:10

  • 1986 was a very good year! It was the spring and this song reminded me of this guy named

Love! I was so crazy about him. nothing ever happened...we became good friends and i hooked him up with a beautiful friend of mines

named shemeca! So much for that!;)

  • dire.... fucking dire

  • so was that comment - fail!

  • what?

  • great song form the 80s - Recently copped this from iTunes - still going strong.

  • 03:00, trippy, dunno why they put that in the clip. scary.

  • i am 19 end i love level 42 ub 40 ac-dc duran duran king

  • Im so glad to hear it! Im not the only youngin here. IM 24 AND IM FALLING IN LOVE with level 42. Ive got such a crush on the lead singer, Mark King.

  • Were these guys more famous in the UK than in the US? Because this is the only song I can remember being played on US radio (and I love this song). Makes me think I should check out their other work.

  • Its a pretty cool video I remember from my HS days back in the 80's. If you ever see "Excalibur" the women in this video is the same who played Queen Guenivere in the movie...

  • Indeed. She also appeared topless in that film ! Cherie Lunghi, the actress, also did some Kenko (i think) coffee commercials as well ...

  • and she was in 'The Manageress' as well.

  • Do it! Im so inlove with them!

  • retro 80's into 2008 and beyond

  • If you don't like this song - you're probably evil (or at the very least lousy in the sack).

  • Great memories.

I never forgot that AC Cobra 427 & the guy "gassing it" while the chic was trying to get in. Classic.

  • I dont know what it is, but there's something about this song that moves me!

  • Surely there can't be anyone who doesn't like this song..? Especially 80's fans , like myself..

  • One of my all time favorites from the 80s, just has that unique sound and loved this video...When MTV actually use to play videos, what happened?. Thx. for finding this one in the vault and posting ilovebumfun(lol...crazy user name)

  • The fool or clown in the video represents the side of us that sabatages our relationships by the "foolish ways" we conduct ourselves. In the video where the man runs out to appologize to his girl we see the clown turn with a concerned look on his face. Afraid that the man is going to redeem himself (Confront his foolish ways). A brilliant video imho.

  • he says 'we are only human after all'

p.s this is the greatest song, by the greatest band. Have my tickets for October at the Manchester opera house in my hand !

  • yea yea but what is the guy saying in the end?

  • we are only human after all (am sure)

  • i think he is saying w`ere only human after all

  • a powerful line

  • "is it so wrong to be human after all"

This is my gf & I's song

  • I think the clown represents the singers curse toward the woman and her new relationships. She fucked him over and the karmic residue has spilled over to her new guys. Basically the bullshit that she used to screw her relationship with the singer is coming back to bite her on the ass. Thats why he's laughing at her. Until she deals with her internal demons every relationship is doomed.

  • R u a relationship counselor i like that point! The clown could also represent her skeletons in her closet.what she thought she was hiding!

  • Yeah thats another way to look at it too. I was also thinking that he could be a trickster archetype. In alot of myths the Trickster is the one that forces people to face a dilemma that they do not want to face. Thats why he laughs at people because we cant see our foolishness while he can. Eventually if we ignore him to for to long then he becomes darker in his tempermant. He goes from laughing to roaring. We can ignore our demons for only so long.

  • Damn u hit the needle on the head with that point! You can only run for so long, u can only ignore for so long. Whats hiding is found, whats buried is uncovered......

  • amazing comment

  • Takes you back. Good stuff. The louder the better. Great era.

  • Love the video and song

  • The clown appears to be a cock-blocker

  • oh ok

  • pookah hookah itwe589;seigh.g.fgjdfj.ghatirithv,.xn!!!!!!!!!1

  • um...so what is the clown guy whispering in the end of the video? creepy

  • This song has everything come together. Insightful lyrics, tight harmonies, impeccable melodies, and killer rhythm. Qualities conspicuously lacking from a LOT of today's tunes.

  • I was a senior in high school when this came out..."Better off Dead," "Just One of The Guys," "Back to School"...long live the 80s!!!!

  • That clown guy still gives me the creeps sometimes.

Man, what i wouldn't give to get my hands on a AC cobra. Great car and purely wonderful music.

  • creepy but kool!

  • song still gives me chills after all of these years. level 42's got a huge collection of music -- unfortunately, most of their other videos (with the exception of a few) are horribly produced and terribly cheesy.

  • I prefer the song's extended version from the World Machine album to this one, this version I find ends too soon.

  • Mark King was channeling his inner Olivier-there was a movie that Lord Olivier did called the Entertainer where he wore a suit and makeup like that.

  • Hey today i wanted to buy "retroglide", but it was sold out! What´s that? Level 42 sold out?Hm. Watch my cover of "something about you"...

  • Could it be that at long last people are recognising QUALITY music? Let's hope so!

  • i would if i could...

  • retroglide is pretty good -- i feel like king (who is definitely a ham) always bullies lindup, and barely lets mike get any share of the spotlight.

  • L42 would have gotten forward one album, much less 26 years (in various incarnations), without either Mike's falsetto/tenor vox or at keast the spectre of them. His and Mike's vocals and Mark's bass are THE essential elements in the band. It's the same reason why Daryl Hall had only had only one big chart song in the US from his four solo albums, even though he dominates almost all Hall and Oates songs.

  • generally speaking, mike had a lot more vocal exposure in the early albums. once we got up to the later albums (Staring at the Sun, Guaranteed and finally Retroglide), it's like Mike's lead vocals are scarce.

  • generally speaking, mike had a lot more vocal exposure in the early albums. once we got up to the later albums (Staring at the Sun, Guaranteed and finally Retroglide), it's like Mike's lead vocals are scarce.

  • i honestly think that as King's ego grew, he pushed Mike from the spotlight of lead vocals.

  • It looks like he's saying something like:

"We were talking to you about life gone wrong".

...but I'm very unsure of the last 3 words.

His drawing out the last word indicates he's

singing and not talking this sentence.

  • He's saying "We're only human after all"

  • yes!

  • nope. a few ppl on here got it right already. he says were only human after all.

  • OK...here's one for you all:

What does He mouth at the end of the video?

  • OK...here's one for you all:

What does He mouth at the end of the video?

  • I've been told he's saying 'we are only human after all.' Would make sense, given the context of the song.

That suit does make Mark look a bit of a chav unfortunately lol!

  • think ur spot on with that

  • I've been wondering that for 22 years. Very cryptic.

  • dude in the suit with the cane is a freakin stalker

  • ok HERE is a question for you all.. WHO IS THE FEMALE in the video?

  • I think shes in the old kenco coffee adverts.

  • Cherie Lunghi

  • LOL.. great screen name!

  • good song

  • what does he mouth at the end of this video?

  • I think he's saying "I've got a fever, and the only cure is more cowbell". Come on, think of what cowbell would do to this song.

  • that was random!

  • not sure what ur all on about?

  • that was directed to iminurwebsite

  • ok sorry

  • Wonderfull...

  • I've loved Brit 80's rock since, well, the 80's! And I've loved this song ever since it was relesed. This vid takes me back. Smash hit's Sousie Soux. Love your vid's keep em' coming.

    P.S. I know what a bum is.

  • World ~

The perfect "English rose" lady's name was lost in the last obliteration of this video.

Would someone be kind enough to say again?

    Kind regards,

    ~~""

  • i hate the 80's song !!

    *no offense*

i'm being tortured by my own uncle !!!

i'm being forced to listen to this !!!
