Look at the most recent JD Power and Consumer Reports ratings. Even Consumer Reports, lover of all things Asian, now admits that Ford has "world class" quality equal to or better than Toyondissan. It isn't the 1980s or '90s anymore, In fact Toyota has been slipping in recent years. The interiors of the Fusion AND the Malibu are better quality.
I driven the fusion's twin, the Mercury Milan Hybrid some months ago and I end up getting 67 mpg and 58 mpg in the Toyota Camry hybrid. What the salesperson that was with me told that if the battery was fully charged, I could have averaged 87 mpg. So, they are very truthful about the efficiency of the vehicle.
definately the best hybrid out there, I understand getting great mpg is good but it isn't the answer, you still have to put gas in it, just like the very ugly prius, at least ford makes this hybrid nice and makes me finally think about buying a hybrid.
Yea.. Especially with the NEW Sync 3.0, it now has Text Navigation Services, (No Screen), The best MP3 Player Integration, Voice Commands, and much more.. Really one of the best Tech cars around..
BTW the Battery can be totally recycled and you can use the parts over to create new batteries.. so don't go saying they will end up in the landfill. And after 5 years, the Fusion is still covered under warranty for all the hybrid components, so no wories about high bills or anything.
Over all, The Fusion Hybrid is a really good car.. I'm averaging 36mpg right now, and that is with my wife driving and not trying to get good mpg.. When I drive I got over 45mpg.
I have the Fusion Hybrid, and I have stayed away from Ford for many years, but this car is just too good to stay away. It has a combined 190HP so it moves when you want it to, and get's great MPG while doing it. You can drive around at 35 on the highway to try to get good mpg in a regular car and piss evey one off, or you can drive normally and get great mpg and keep up with the flow with the fusion. Oh,
Ford did not license from Toyota. Ford and Toyota did a Patent Swap because Frd designed it's own Hybrid System, and Did not want to get into patent suits with toyota, so ford Gave Toyota some of it's Patents for toyota to use, and ford could develope it's own Hybrid system with out fear of a law suit. This is why the Ford Kills the camry in hybrid performance. just wait till ford comes out with a smaler hybrid, it will kill the prius.
Yeah, so obviously, we should keep digging the earth up for oil so that we can keep polluting our environment and have smog in the cities, you know, because the batteries can't be properly recycled or anything... No, they don't go to a landfill, batteries go into recycling, at the local recycling place in your city. DUH.
Ok, so your mastery of the caps lock key leaves a bit to be desired. Capital letters to not mean you are correct. In fact there is a great deal wrong with what you wrote. You should try researching a bit before spouting off at the key board.
41 mpg is not amazing, that part was correct. It is impressive for a car the size of the Fusion.
The batteries themselves are indeed recycled and recyclable. The nickel is in high demand and can be re-used.
I think you are commenting on an article written some time ago by an very biased writer which went on about the Sudbury mining area which was indeed devastated from nickel production... some 25 years ago (they failed to mention that). Having been to NY, LA and Sudbury, I can assure you that you won't find much smog in Sudbury, but emissions from the mining industry (nickel, copper, gold, etc) combined with the pulp and logging industries still isn't great.

The 2010 Fusion is stunning, and the leaps made in hybrid performance over the 2006 hybrid is remarkable. We drove over 600 highway miles last weekend on one tank of gas. I'll just continue to drive my 04' Taurus with 110,000 miles on it and get 28-30mpg going around 75mph. And my fiance's 99' Contour which gets 35-38mpg. It's not too environmentally friendly to go an buy another car espescially one that they have no freaking clue to what to do with the spent batteries. Plus the Fusion looks like it has an over bite or something with the 3bar grille which Ford should stop using. Nice interior though and nice features, but still wouldn't buy it espescially for 28K
i drive an 06 passat and get around 42 mpg highway driving carefully. its not a diesel or hybrid...its a 2.0T and it stared at 24K with as many options this has for 28K...

I'm looking to deep-six the Passat: the Fusion Hybrid is the clear choice.
i get about 33-34 non highway driving sorry for the mistake.
19...is about 10 below what you should get...id look into your driving habits before knocking on a car alot of other people are impressed with. either that or you got a crap one....
"Patent encumbrance of large automotive NiMH batteries"
"Ovshinky said one primary tactic used by the auto industry was to falsely suggest that NiMH technology is not ready yet."
"General Motors acquired a controlling interest in Ovonics's battery development and manufacture, including patents controlling the manufacture of large nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries."
And that's how Ford can win this segment, plus a little stretching and lying of course. Domestic car makers have been lying on tv about their fuel economy ever since Katrina.
I bet the Prius, Civic hybrid, and Honda Insight will all beat this car on fuel economy. Competition is good, but the domestics have lost all credibility over the years. I've been screwed over so many times by GM for instance, they can go f themselves now.
Agreed. Cheapest hybrid is now the Honda Insight. And it has a hatchback trunk. *Much* smarter than a stupid sedan.
Toyota won up to this point, but now it's Honda again.
What irks me most about domestic car makers is that they want to force people that need some utility into suvs and vans. They refuse to build useful economical family cars.
They want to force families into suvs, and I hate them for that.
Uhhhh no.... ford had station wagons available until the end of the run for the taurus 2007 I believe and until the redisign of the Focus around the same time.... the fusion and the redisigned focus do not offer a wagon because they were not cost effective... I.E. no one bought them... I agree with you wagons are nice but the car manufacturers can't sell you what you won't buy... and where are the Accord and Camry wagons?? Not made anymore either because no one bought them.
1) It's too expensive. The fuel savings do not warrant all that extra money spend on a car like this.
2) Maintenance will cost more. The dealer will likely insist on seeing the car in for bogus service charges, or else you'll risk losing warranty on all the complicated components. Whereas conventional cars you can pretty much ignore it and just do oil changes.
3) After the car becomes 5 years old, how well is everything still working, and how much life is left? Expensive part replacements?
I don't want this car because it is a sedan. I find sedan's stupid and unpractical. Why oh why didn't they make it a station wagon. That way it actually becomes useful.
I just *HATE* the stupidity of the average consumer, it is THEIR fault.
A station wagon is better. You can carry boxes, use it to pick up your new fridge, couch, put your bicycles in it. If you have a lot of baby stuff and luggage you can carry all of it.
Is Ford confused about car size? It keeps promoting the hybrid Fusion as getting the best mileage of any mid-size car. Except the Prius has always been the mileage champ and IS a mid-size car. Not to mention that the hybrid technology in the Fusion is actually licensed FROM Toyota.
Hybrid Tech licensed from Toyota and might be it body design licensed by Honda because it look exactly same as a '95 Accord, especially from the rear side. XP
the front looks very different from the accord. who cares where the tech came from ... toyota builds their cars on an assembly line ... where did that idea come from? playing devils advocate aside ford has made a respectable and attractive car that id consider buying.
Small bump in the road, Ford did a test run with the team of engineers responsible for this vehicle with a Nascar driver piloting the car. The car was unmodified and they started off with a full tank and at the end of the day of driving went 1411 (not sure about last 2 digits) miles averaging 81mpg. I've also heard that it's a plug in hybrid so you could go for months without ever using gas.
Unless you're already driving an aptera, I don't think you should complain about still using gasoline. There, unfortunately, is going to have to be some sort of transitional change. At least it's a step in the right direction. It will improve demand, and show car companies people WANT to go green. Yes, the EV1 was revolutionary, but it got shot down. It was a step backwards, and hopefully, this will raise better awareness for the capability of electric and other green vehicles.
Is not about really the looks is more about the efficiency regarding hybrids this cars are still more efficient than the american one I personally like French cars Peugeots Renaults very atractive well made and efficients cars! Made in EU
41 miles is not too from a civic at 36 the car is ugly I was in costa rica where the chinese donated 250 police cars and those cars still look better than this unit even the chinese are designing better cars. Until something truelly revolutionary comes out of detroit they are DOOOOOOM!
Obviously I dont! Hybrids have been out for a looong time and is until now that detroit is comming out with one. American Cars are simply put UGLY and Inefficient! But if you buy good luck to you!
Like they said, it's the most fuel efficient midsize sedan. This is a hybrid car that feels like a regular car. I don't know if you've driven a hybrid before but the Prius, Civic Hybrid and Insight all feel cheap and flimsy. This car won't.
Actually, no I haven't yet. The car in my opinion looks pretty good from the inside especially the panels. I just truly believe that there are so many factors holding them back from producing all electric vehicles, and quite understandable from a business POV. The EV1 was a success.. but they recalled for some strange reason. Of course they realized all that profit loss from a almost no maintenance EV.
What a bunch of DINOSAUR comments....You people sound like you were born in the 19th century......My dear father just died two months ago at the age of 103, and he was happy whenever I told him that the gasoline age was soon coming to an end...And to think that he had a gas station back in 1960's...People need to leave childish needs for POWER behind, and think of a NEW CAR AGE which is now dawning......When I was 17 I used to drive my brother's 1968 Corvette, but now I am 56 and smarter.....
wow wow come on no i'm not buy one if we buy like this car the oil compeny they will rice price gasoline. they are not stupid they want live too,so please don't wast you mony just say no more gasoline
This is a better short -- term solution than the VOLT because the VOLT might not sell as well as this because of the change in shift to thinking people are migrating to hybrids slowly and than they will migrate to electric.
I took delivery on a Ford 2010 Fusion Hybrid at end of March . It drives really sweet! Around town it switches seamlessly between EV and engine. It is always very quiet; hardly any road noise even in EV mode. I've been getting 39-40 mpg around town. It is quite peppy, with good acceleration when required. It handles very nicely getting on and off the expressway, and when passing. I got the option with the moon roof ... very handy on nice days!
Our 2004 Prius has over 93,000 miles, we got it at the end of 2003, my family is on the waiting list to get the 2010 model this fall, we will trade our old one in. We have never replaced the battery.
The PT Cruiser is a 2006 with 74,000 miles and the Grand Prix is a 2004 with 87,000. The Prius has not been on the shop once. hope that answers your question.
I have noticed however that many people just HATE The Prius and that is ok, that is why we live in America - free to choose.
I wrote a comment on this page over a month ago and got responses telling me how bad the Prius sucks and how wonderful American cars are. First of all, let me tell you that my family owns a PT Cruiser, a Prius, and a Grand Prix. So we get to drive all three of them.
Comparing the Cruiser and the Prius the Prius has more power and no it does not shake in the wind. But the biggest difference between the three cars is this. The Grand Prix and the Cruiser have been in and out of the shop
how many miles do u have on each car and what year are they. Also if your prius is hybrid your going to pay through the teeth when the battery pack goes out
I got to see it in person. It's incredible. It was the Sport, not the Hybrid, but the body will be the same. The gauge cluster in the Sport is AMAZING, so I'm guessing the Hybrid will be incredible. What a good-looking car, and GREAT interior. Nothing but postiive stuff, that I saw.
I thought it was going to be "under $23,000"? Now heard it's going to be about $27,000. Good luck with that. You NEED to make this affordable. $27,000 is not affordable. You can buy 2 foreign cars for that price.
Ok, let me school you hounds a bit. To answer your questions .. YES, like it or not the "Shopping carts" as you refer to the Prius, are a much better seller than any Ford wanna be Hybrid.
That is just a fact, like it or not. Now I know that most people who leave comments here are Detroit lovers, who will say the Fusion is awesome! Good for you go out there and buy one and hope the company will be around in the next few years. I have driven Ford, GM, and Toyota. I will stick to the last one.
The Prius is fine for a high school or college student. The road noise level combined with the poor handling at freeway speeds (a strong crosswind will blow you over a whole lane) keeps it from being considered a serious automobile.
Don't believe me? Drive one for yourself. National offers the Prius as part of its rental fleet.
Yes the Prius has been a better seller, This is the first year in production for the hybrid Fusion. I would also ask when the last time you looked at what Ford has been doing for the last 5 years or so in quality. Which is said to be just as good if not better then then japanese and european competitors (ie honda, toyota, VW)
Ford will be the only american car maker, but a damm good one once again.
I've owned a '96 Ford Contour SE V6 and an '05 Accord EX-L V6. Right now, both cars in front of me brand new (magically only, I know) and I would take the Ford again without hesitation. That car lasted 128K with not ONE SINGLE problem. When it was totaled in a crash it still had it's original head and brake light bulbs!!! The Honda went into the shop the first time at 8K and has had 5 major problems since. I SO SO SO look forward to buying my next FORD!
Many don't get how much goes into getting 41mpg out of a gas 3800lb car. It handles and it's a good size for many. There are 1 million shopping cart Prius out there that are faarrrr more boring. there...
who cares about 0-60 times for hybrids?? whats next speed showing hybrid forms of pinks? going 0-60 quickly means your kinda defeating the purpose of the hybrid...
No, it doesn't defeat the purpose. You need passing power for the highway and if you have a bad 0-60 time that means it is a BORING car. If you have a good 0-60 time, you'll have a better car that more people will buy because they think all economic cars are boring.
0-60 means nothing when it comes to passing. passing is like 40 and up. and all that pertains to lately for hybrids is how much torgue the gas or diesel engine hasand that equals not fuel economic. and incase you havent noticed, economic cars ARE boring.. until they are referred to as something other than "economical cars" they will not be fun.
note to ford...get rid of the leaves...just let the car tell you how efficient you're being

Ford does not use Toyota technology.
Both companies exchange patents some time ago.
theannoyingdogpoo 2 years ago
And that's how Ford can win this segment, plus a little stretching and lying of course. Domestic car makers have been lying on tv about their fuel economy ever since Katrina.
I bet the Prius, Civic hybrid, and Honda Insight will all beat this car on fuel economy. Competition is good, but the domestics have lost all credibility over the years. I've been screwed over so many times by GM for instance, they can go f themselves now.
a1mint 2 years ago
they need to lower prices 30K isnt exactly cheap in this economy.
the way they can make this a VERY popular car is by lowering price they will make huge profit by selling more for less than by selling a few for more
alextheromanian 2 years ago

Not made anymore either because no one bought them.
bigretardhalo 2 years ago
1) It's too expensive. The fuel savings do not warrant all that extra money spend on a car like this.
2) Maintenance will cost more. The dealer will likely insist on seeing the car in for bogus service charges, or else you'll risk losing warranty on all the complicated components. Whereas conventional cars you can pretty much ignore it and just do oil changes.
3) After the car becomes 5 years old, how well is everything still working, and how much life is left? Expensive part replacements?
a1mint 2 years ago
This car is just one of the reasons that Ford isn't out begging for taxpayer money right now. I can't wait to own one.
brealmsys 2 years ago
I don't want this car because it is a sedan. I find sedan's stupid and unpractical. Why oh why didn't they make it a station wagon. That way it actually becomes useful.
I just *HATE* the stupidity of the average consumer, it is THEIR fault.
a1mint 2 years ago
eww, a station wagon?? lol.
a sedan is fine for me. enough to carry my books and my friends.
Turquoise66 2 years ago
A station wagon is better. You can carry boxes, use it to pick up your new fridge, couch, put your bicycles in it. If you have a lot of baby stuff and luggage you can carry all of it.
Sedans make no sense.
a1mint 2 years ago
i don't have any kids, and i don't fly a lot. a sedan is more sensible for me.
Turquoise66 2 years ago
Is Ford confused about car size? It keeps promoting the hybrid Fusion as getting the best mileage of any mid-size car. Except the Prius has always been the mileage champ and IS a mid-size car. Not to mention that the hybrid technology in the Fusion is actually licensed FROM Toyota.
fightinLIB 2 years ago
Hybrid Tech licensed from Toyota and might be it body design licensed by Honda because it look exactly same as a '95 Accord, especially from the rear side. XP
RickStylus 2 years ago
the front looks very different from the accord. who cares where the tech came from ... toyota builds their cars on an assembly line ... where did that idea come from? playing devils advocate aside ford has made a respectable and attractive car that id consider buying.
osiris2669 2 years ago
if you consider to buy a car made by ford... just good luck wit it. LOL

I've also heard that it's a plug in hybrid so you could go for months without ever using gas.
quuaa1 2 years ago
Unless you're already driving an aptera, I don't think you should complain about still using gasoline. There, unfortunately, is going to have to be some sort of transitional change. At least it's a step in the right direction. It will improve demand, and show car companies people WANT to go green. Yes, the EV1 was revolutionary, but it got shot down. It was a step backwards, and hopefully, this will raise better awareness for the capability of electric and other green vehicles.

Do a search for Chevy Volt or Tesla. EV's and EREV's are within a few years away from being standard to all car manufacturers!

Is not about really the looks is more about the efficiency regarding hybrids this cars are still more efficient than the american one I personally like French cars Peugeots Renaults very atractive well made and efficients cars! Made in EU
Roland79CR 2 years ago
i've never heard of such a car, so it doesn't matter to me.
the fusion is the most fuel efficient sedan, the mailibu is pretty good too. and America has some of the most fuel efficient SUVs.

Yea you would need to travel a little bit! Good luck with your american cars who know how much they might be around

41 miles is not too from a civic at 36 the car is ugly I was in costa rica where the chinese donated 250 police cars and those cars still look better than this unit even the chinese are designing better cars. Until something truelly revolutionary comes out of detroit they are DOOOOOOM!

you don't know what a good car is.
ChadTaylorCanDoIt 2 years ago
Obviously I dont! Hybrids have been out for a looong time and is until now that detroit is comming out with one. American Cars are simply put UGLY and Inefficient! But if you buy good luck to you!
Roland79CR 2 years ago
Like they said, it's the most fuel efficient midsize sedan. This is a hybrid car that feels like a regular car. I don't know if you've driven a hybrid before but the Prius, Civic Hybrid and Insight all feel cheap and flimsy. This car won't.
xfistsclenchedx 2 years ago

RaserX305 2 years ago
The Prius is an ugly car for fuddy duddies.

RaserX305 2 years ago
how many miles do u have on each car and what year are they.

SUPERBURRITO 2 years ago
really, a prius with the same amount of equipment is around 30+. There is the honda insight around 18K, but the price isn't that off.
Jackofalltrades16 2 years ago
The fusion itself is under 20. It's 27000 but with a government tax credit it will be around 23 I think.
hazy96 2 years ago
Government tax credit is 3,400 right now. It will gradually go down as demand goes up.
beezalax13 2 years ago
yea you can buy two non-hybrid foreign cars. and the fusion hybrid is cheaper than the toyota camry

Im not much of a Ford person either, but its nice to see that they're trying new things, and the fusion looks pretty good.
usama1119 2 years ago
Ok, let me school you hounds a bit. To answer your questions .. YES, like it or not the "Shopping carts" as you refer to the Prius, are a much better seller than any Ford wanna be Hybrid.
That is just a fact, like it or not. Now I know that most people who leave comments here are Detroit lovers, who will say the Fusion is awesome! Good for you go out there and buy one and hope the company will be around in the next few years. I have driven Ford, GM, and Toyota. I will stick to the last one.
RaserX305 2 years ago

There are 1 million shopping cart Prius out there that are faarrrr more boring. there...

Another boring car from Ford, and people wonder why they are on the brink of asking for bail out money.
RaserX305 2 years ago
When it comes to hybrid vehicles, what do you consider exciting? The Prius? The Camry?
SmokyPondFarm 2 years ago
How exactly is it any more "boring" than a Prius?
cebert 2 years ago
RaserX305: "Another boring car from Ford, and people wonder why they are on the brink of asking for bail out money."
"Boring" is the term boring people use when they cannot come up with anything about the excellent car that has just started selling.
And Ford never asked for bailout.

who cares about 0-60 times for hybrids?? whats next speed showing hybrid forms of pinks? going 0-60 quickly means your kinda defeating the purpose of the hybrid...
Youvegotnothinonme 3 years ago
No, it doesn't defeat the purpose. You need passing power for the highway and if you have a bad 0-60 time that means it is a BORING car. If you have a good 0-60 time, you'll have a better car that more people will buy because they think all economic cars are boring.
Powersproductions130 3 years ago
0-60 means nothing when it comes to passing. passing is like 40 and up. and all that pertains to lately for hybrids is how much torgue the gas or diesel engine hasand that equals not fuel economic. and incase you havent noticed, economic cars ARE boring.. until they are referred to as something other than "economical cars" they will not be fun.
