Too often the heel comes up off the ground in the counterattack, which robs the technique of its power. I know this because I have the same problem. ;-)

What's that stomping kick at 1:21? Is it something you only learn at a higher grade?

@cazaimex Looks like a standard heel kick. It's not something you see a lot in Shotokan, but you see it quite frequently in Isshin-ryu and Chinese forms. Not that a Shotokan karateka couldn't easily adapt a front thrust kick to get something close to it.
