No one can deny that Indian universities have excellent and intensive courses. But why don't we see them when it comes to university world rankings ? Is the quality of research not as good as it should be ?
@tttybhgf1 The reason Indian universities fair poorly on the world stage today is due to a couple of reasons. The primary reason is simply lack of proper funding. The IITs are unanimously considered the top schools in India for the sciences and IIMs for business. The reason they are considered "top" is mainly due to the professors and students; whose caliber are unquestionably brilliant. The problem is the facilities and funding is so abysmal that very little serious research is done.
The other reason is that schools in India, from grade school to the undergraduate level, stress rote learning instead of critical reasoning. The emphasis is mainly on problem solving with some prescribed methods and hardly any "out of the box" thinking is encouraged. Consequently, research is not only subpar but even discouraged at certain institutions.
Indians, given their raw talent, will do brilliantly given the proper surroundings; examples of these are Indians living abroad.
Indian Kids using our Ivy League school as a backup or "safety" school is a wrong way to look at it. They basically don't have enough top school in India. It seems exclusive because that's all they have over there. So it's not that they settle for Harvard. They just had no room in India.
@kmckoy13 Good point really. The number of applicants accepted is apparently very low. But they seem to be very hard to study at. Ivy League schools are far far better in research though, and this really matters.
Where can we look for sages like those whose systems of philosophy were prototypes of those of Greece: to whose works Plato, Thales and Pythagorus were disciples? Where do I find astronomers whose knowledge of planetary systems yet excites wonder in Europe as well as the architects and sculptors whose works claim our admiration, and the musicians who could make the mind oscillate from joy to sorrow, from tears to smile with the change of modes and varied intonation? only India!
Indian inventions and discoveries form the very basis of math, medicine, astronomy, science and metaphysics. Where would the world be without zero and the number system, without surgeries and anestheseia, without surgical instruments.
If I were asked under what sky the human mind has most fully developed some of its choicest gifts, has most deeply pondered on the greatest problems of life, and has found solutions, I should point to India.
So far as I am able to judge, nothing has been left undone, either by man or nature, to make India the most extraordinary country that the sun visits on his rounds. Nothing seems to have been forgotten, nothing overlooked.
India is the cradle of the human race, the birthplace of human speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of legend, and the great grand mother of tradition. Our most valuable and most astrictive materials in the history of man are treasured up in India only!
India was the motherland of our race, and Sanskrit the mother of Europe's languages: she was the mother of our philosophy; mother, through the Arabs, of much of our mathematics; mother, through the Buddha, of the ideals embodied in Christianity; mother, through the village community, of self-government and democracy. Mother India is in many ways the mother of us all.
If there is one place on the face of earth where all the dreams of living men have found a home from the very earliest days when man began the dream of existence, it is India!
It will no longer remain to be doubted that the priests of Egypt and the sages of Greece have drawn directly from the original well of India, that it is to the banks of the Ganges and the Indus that our hearts feel drawn as by some hidden urge.
I am convinced that everything has come down to us from the banks of the Ganges, - astronomy, astrology, metempsychosis,.. It is very important to note that some 2,500 years ago at the least Pythagoras went from Samos to the Ganges to learn geometry...But he would certainly not have undertaken such a strange journey had the reputation of the Brahmins' science not been long established in Europe...
- Francois Marie Arouet Voltaire (French writer and philosopher)
Whatever sphere of the human mind you may select for your special study, whether it be language, or religion, or mythology, or philosophy, whether it be law or customs, primitive art or primitive science, everywhere you have to go to India, whether you like it or not, because some of the most valuable and instructive materials of the history of man are treasured up in India and India only.

I believe that the civilization India has evolved is not to be beaten in the world. Nothing can equal the seeds sown by our ancestry. Rome went; Greece shared the same fate; the might of the Pharaohs was broken; Japan has become westernized; of China nothing can be said; but India is still, somehow or other, sound at the foundation.
Ancient civilizations of Greece, Egypt and Rome have all disappeared from this world, but the elements of our civilization still continue. Although world-events have been inimical to us for centuries, there is something in our civilization which has withstood these onslaughts.
India had the start of the whole world in the beginning of things. She had the first civilization; she had the first accumulation of material wealth; she was populous with deep thinkers and subtle intellects; she had mines, and woods, and a fruitful soul.
The multiplicity of the manifestations of the Indian genius as well as their fundamental unity gives India the right to figure on the first rank in the history of civilized nations. Her civilization, spontaneous and original, unrolls itself in a continuous time across at least thirty centuries, without interruption, without deviation.
India is not only a country and something geographical, but the home and the youth of the soul, the everywhere and nowhere, the oneness of all times.
Indeed, if I may be allowed the anachronism, the Hindus were Spinozites more than two thousand years before the existence of Spinoza; and Darwinians may centuries before Darwin; and evolutionists many centuries before the doctrine of evolution had been accepted by the scientists of our time, and before any word like 'evolution' existed in any language of the world.
The motion of the stars calculated by the Hindus before some 4500 years vary not even a single minute from the tables of Cassine and Meyer. The Hindu systems of astronomy are by far the oldest and that from which the Egyptians, Greek, Romans and - even the Jews derived from the Hindus their knowledge.
Mother India is in many ways the mother of us all. Nothing should more deeply shame the modern student than the recency and inadequacy of his acquaintance with India....This is the India that patient scholarship is now opening up like a new intellectual continent to that Western mind which only yesterday thought civilization an exclusive Western thing.
She (India) has left indelible imprints on one fourth of the human race in the course of a long succession of centuries. She has the right to reclaim ... her place amongst the great nations summarizing and symbolizing the spirit of humanity. From Persia to the Chinese sea, from the icy regions of Siberia to Islands of Java and Borneo, India has propagated her beliefs, her tales, and her civilization!
I shall now speak of the knowledge of the Hindus...of their subtle discoveries even more ingenious than those of the Greeks and Babylonians - of their rational system of mathematics or of their method of calculation which no word can praise strongly enough - I mean the system using the nine symbols.
All history points to India as the mother of science and art,This country was anciently so renowned for knowledge and wisdom that the philosophers of Greece did not disdain to travel thither for their improvement.
She (India) has left indelible imprints on one fourth of the human race in the course of a long succession of centuries. She has the right to reclaim ... her place amongst the great nations summarizing and symbolizing the spirit of humanity. There is a striking resemblance between the equivalence of mass and energy symbolized by Shiva's cosmic dance and the Western theory, first expounded by Einstein, which calculates the amount of energy contained in a subatomic particle by multiplying its mass by the square of the speed of light : E=MC2 .
India is the one land that all men desire to see, and having seen once, by even a glimpse, would not give that glimpse for the shows of all the rest of the world combined.
Nothing should more deeply shame the modern student than the recency and inadequacy of his acquaintance with India.
Are you convinced that India is the most influential civilization in world history?? Are you convinced that India was the centre of the world for ALL of human history up until the 18th century?
"Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth."
Yeah, i can relate to this, im an NRI in india in the 12th grade, and FUCK, those IIT examinations are literal hell, hundreds of thousands of indian students participate and of those, only 2% get the seats in the good iit colleges. '-_- (sigh)
Work your ass off on the studies and the loop hole you get into an IIt college is soooo small.
Dont worry they will establish a bunch of more spots, the acceptance grades will go down and your schools will become better and bigger then ours. Good luck with it all we in the west are done. We have no jobs, currently schooling and social services and healthcare are the only employers, these are signs of a dead, not dying, economy. Private sector employment does not exist, every graduate first seeks jobs in a union or public sector so they can have high wages because private sector jobs DNE.
look people from india, the name of the game is capitalism, what you people think is middle class is poor in america, i work with two guys from india, they both told me you are lucky as a doctor to make 30k per year, i make 5 times that in the us. 30k is poor. here. also i have no idea how you are going to get into an ivy league with no money. both of the guys i work with told me they grew up with nothing. your education may be better but you and china are not taking over the world.
You have no knowledge of what a docotor makes in the U.S. Their average salary, if they work in a hospital as an internist is between $250,000-350,000.00. and way more for specialists. But most of them don't work for hospitals, but private practice which is way more profitable and third party payements may reach more than a million dollars. So please stop talking about thing you have no clue about. What you hear in muslim countries is normally not true.
@mauriceraffoul hehehe, surely india's economy is not in great shape because of global slowdown but still the india is in a much better condition than most countries
Well I have to respect their dedication. I hope they build more schools. We need to do the same and pursue real higher education and will only achieve the same growth if we in the U.S. do away with affirmative Action and offer equal risks for everyone. We have to stop dumbing down our school just so we can arrogantly boast about increased graduation rates of incompetents.
Flavor of the month: opportunistic earth-hopping like a disloyal bankster; to wherever worshiping Mammon is most profitable without too much personal political participation. Who needs roots anyway...?
The fierce competition is primarily due to the face that over 50% of India's population is under the age of 25 and competing for an extremely limited number of elite university seats. They may have millions of unemployed or underemployed people with college degrees in the future, similar to the US' current situation. Fierce competition due to overpopulation does not make Indian universities better than the Ivy League. Only a handful of Indian universities even come close to touching the Ivies.
The word "exploding middle class" is an exaggeration. India is not building the same kind of middle class that the US built following WWII and there is plenty of evidence that the same neoliberal policies that allowed Indian H1 visa workers to obliterate the US middle class are now destroying the rather narrow Indian middle class. Hundreds of thousands of IT jobs are now being outsourced to Malaysia to effect the same kind of wage equalization pressures the US saw. What goes around comes around.
1.2 billion indians now 1.6 billion next 20 years that means they will always study abroad, a middle class of 300 million is also in the futre if i was not an fat lazy australian i would be over thier now as thats the futre ,but ill stay home as with 22million people and india and china to feed and supply resources i think plenty of money going to canada and Aus plus the states.
@abh3092 look up your stats and its also because of bang away dlesh because they are starving and moving to india anyhow keep breeding Australia Canada and anywhere white is going to be rich on the excessive food we produce to feed you guys
@MrFattyfatfatboy ----you bloody racist rascal albino prick! india's fertility rate is barely 2.2 if it falls below 2.1 india's population actually would start declining.Actually india is one of the largest producer of food as india has one of the worlds largest area under agriculture.India has passed a law that guarantees every indian the right to food.
@abh3092 you will have 1.6 billion in less than 20 years im basing that on facts provided by indian burea of stats , Australia and Canada combined are bigger than russia yet have 50 million people together you are half as big as Australia but have 1.3 billion people ,it does not matter how much food you produce now you will spend all your mony on food anyhow it means that just to eat indian will be smarter than rich white people who dont breed like you and african cousins.
@MrFattyfatfatboy --- do you have a thing called as brain?? india's population growth has started falling,it is lower than most developing countries in the planet.India's population might reach 1.6 billion in 2050 and not 2030.thats what indian stats says and by 2050 india would have become a developed country. It's not how much land you have rather how much fertile land you have,Russia, Canada and Australia are giant waste land.India has the highest fertile land in the planet.
@abh3092 im not trying to get in a fight BUT your population is not having 2.2 children in fact india has the highest birth rate in the world you even have more children per head than africa ,then if you look up what your own govt predicts as centres of futre conflict it involves 100s of million of bangaway deshies immigrating to india because land degredation and fertiles yes but not enough to feed the population explosion 7 billionth child was named an indian for a reason.
@MrFattyfatfatboy --thats what i said! you lack a thing called as brain. In india an average woman has 2-3 child,go and read the stats you brainless fool!the country with highest birth rate is congo and india is at distant 80. you brainless duffer. There is nothing called as bangawaydeshi, the word is Bangladeshi,so according to you out of 140 million Bangladeshis 100 million live in india?thats 2/3,is that ever possible, that would be worlds largest displacement ever taken place.go check ur brain!
@abh3092 look your the one with theyre head in the clouds bangaway desh is the same as india with a out of controll population so yes 100s of million plus your own poor having 10 to 12 kids each all your reading is about a small fraction middle class india despite its size is going to be the most populous country in the world oil is a catalyst for food production is in decline in 10 years when your population hits 1.5 billion your going to be eating one another.
@MrFattyfatfatboy Look there is a solution; boot out the Muslims. They are the ones with the fastest growing population and they're worse off than the lowest Hindu class. So India has fixes.
@MrFattyfatfatboy bangladesh is not same as india, bangladesh is the country of muslim bengalis. When i say average indian woman, the statistics skews towards the poor.Even the poor do not have more than 3 kids.Had india a birth rate of 10 kids per woman then india's population would have been reaching 2 billion by now.The middle class in india have only 1 kid.Your donkey brain is not checking the statistics. You are just barking like a dog.Instead of shouting at me you should better attend a school
@abh3092 LOL, and in the past Indian families would kill and bury their own female children. See its easy to bring up the past isn't it? What matter right now is the future, and from what I've seen, racism in India although declining, is still HUGE compared to racism in the UK... which is practically non existent.
@killthrillabs --- stupid cunt! racism does not exist in india!! just go and ask any colored British whether racism exists in Britain or not and you will get your answer!
NO WAY CAN I LIVE WITH 1.2 billion indians comeing into my white country and paying big bucks that will help the nation get back on its feet and clear are debts.
DO YOU REALY THINK US WHITE PEOPLE ARE THAT STUPID!!
@abh3092 Hahahah dude your statistics are full of propaganda and shit. Have you ever been to England? From where I'm from, racism is ltierally -> non-existent.. no one is racist.. and if they are, they keep their views to themselves.. hahaha, where as in India you see the class system implemented everywhere, dark skinned people get abused on a daily basis. This is no debate, the average lifestyle in India is FAR worse than the average lifestyle in the UK.
@nikilkvn Heard of the untouchables? Not to mention whenever I meet these 'higher classed indians', they usually always refer to themselves as lighter skinned upon being compared to darker skinned people.
@killthrillabs ---english and racism are like two sides of the same coin! you are the bloody inventors of skin color based discriminated.Caste system is not a skin color based discrimination. We Indians are brown, why would a light shade discriminate darker shade??Racism is the default ideology of white people. We indians are secular, multi racial, multi ethnic and democratic people unlike queens servants like you.
@ZKY2 remember that bastard British rule?? see whites are born racist! until and unless they are bambood like what chinese are doing they will never stop being racist.
@abh3092 -.-.. everything you said there was absolutely, mindblowingly representative of the crap you've been fed. Dude, england is SO anti-racist its insane.
@killthrillabs --i am saying the things what i am seeing. Most whites remain in denial mode about their racist past! they also remain in denial mode about how they torture colored people in their county.
@straighter100 --see castism is not racism.Castism is not a segregation based on race. Dude you are not aware of how dangerous these people can be.They have always divided us and made us fight each other.
yeah well what about untouchability? India has its own share of oppression. And not all white ppl are racists! And look in India, religion based hatred is everywhere! those honor killings, and the Ayodhya conflict!?!?!?!
@straighter100 -- you are dumb! untouchability is outlawed and those practicing it are severely punished. india's socio economic problems are not race based problems, indian socio economic problems are typical of all developing countries. All multi ethnic and multi religious developing countries have same troubles as india. It took USA more than 200 years to end discrimination and racism but india outlawed all social evils the day it became independent.SO please stop being a white mans servant!
@TheMulticolouredMan - the international ranking is baised! if Indian universities were so bad then how come they produce top ceo's, industrialists, scientists etc??
The worst of all students that do not even get a rank in indian colleges go for abroad to study. Take my example I was the topper of my school and I didn't even get a rank in IIT entrance examination. So you can think of IIT standards.
indian schools are garbage. thats why they drive taxis and operate 7/11s when they come here. they cant even do an ethnic restaurant like other minority because indian food tastes like ass.
@angryaznman thats my point never been in a cab in your country, you think that every fucking race in the planet must be the same as the minorities in america, i bet you think that everyone in Indian works in seven elevens. every mexican is a gardener in Mexico and every muslim is a Terrorits.
stop being such an ignorant fuck, and try to think outside the bubble you live in for a change.
@heavytransit well you'd lose that bet. im aware of the difference between in america and back in their home land. which is why i have the 7/11 AND the IT sector points.
i wont even try to make a point here, you are right you know, thats why americans are so dumb, fat, racist, and a bunch of rednecks, im aware of the situation in your country.
I often find this laughable, as if a American didn't invent it, likely someone else of another nationality would have. So to glorify America for the invention of something makes as much sense as glorifying the person who thought of it first.
listen to me, you slit eyed chink.... Chinese people and people of chinese descent are the lowest forms of being on the planet. Stop displaying your inferior ethnicity in your username. After all, your people pull their pants down, squat on the floor and urinate and defecate all over while blowing snot out of their nose!! YOU WON'T DAR TALK ABOUT INDIA IN THAT WAY!! WE ARE THE GREATEST CIVILIZATION ON THE FACE OF THIS EARTH! MONG!! TAN!!
@angryaznman well actually i refuted your argument but youre too dumb to get it, thats why you keep on giving me the same point.
and to @MrPlowboy66 read all the conversation before geting all defensive on me, and you wouldnt have tv or any kind of hd screen if it wasnt for a mexican, but i really dont brag about the acomplishments of other people, its kind of pointles to do so, its not like i helped to do it or anything neither do you.
@heavytransit you actually didnt refute shit. dumb mexican. mexicans are a plague of useless illegals swarming to the US because their own country is garbage.
@angryaznman - I don't know what part of town you live but not all Mexicans are "useless illegals".....pretty ignorant on your part to generalize like that about Mexican people. But hey, freedom of speach right.....too bad it has to be "free" to those without an education like you who open their mouth without thinking, your ignorance doesn't surprice me with a user name like "angryazman"
@angryaznman - thats the best you have on me?...spelling?!....I know you can do better than that.....sorry for the mispelled word(s)....at least I have an excuse since it's not my first language, but cut me some slack, I speak 3 languages so of coarse things get mixed in here and there. I'm sure an educated fellow like your self can understand that.
@angryaznman see youre getting all personal now on me because you cant see the point, you say im whining about you being racist but i never said YOU were racist, i was just making a point about unjustified and ignorant claims, but at the end for your lack of arguments you started to say racist comments because you cant even figure out what im telling you.
a way of just making yourself look stupid, i must say.
@heavytransit mexican, you cant even figure out what you are trying to say to me. tell me how you refuted a single FACT i pointed out. whether it was 7/11 or India's hilarious IT more like help phone like sector.
@angryaznman i refuted your stupid comments by telling you you are ignorant and retarded, because as i said you couldnt get my point,
my point is not all the fucking people in the world act the same as they act in america, not everyone is a fucking stereotype, you are ignorant close minded and limited to a slim reality.
I refuted your point since the beggining because you didnt even noticed wath i was telling you. You are one of the big reasons why most of the world hate your country.
@heavytransit a mexican wouldn't have done shit if our progressive politicians wouldn't have signed NAFTA. The truth is if it weren't for the US DoD, you wouldn't have an internet to spread your BS. Facts are stubborn things.
@MrPlowboy66 another guy who doesnt get my point, i dont care who made the color tv, im just telling you that bragging about other guys acomplishment is useless, but its cool if you want to brag about youtube and the internet because i guess you helped to create and develop these services. now at the end of the day i was having a conversation with someone else not with you.
im not making a competition on whos country is best, i really couldnt care less about that kind of shit.
@angryaznman I guess you never been enrolled in a university level course before.
You can laugh all you want, but you are a dilusional just because you are asian doesn't make you smart you will be left in the dust working in fast food restraunts along with the other americans.
out of state tuition is expensive. out of country tuition is unaffordable. the schools in america are twice as expensive as indian schools. india's middle class is doing this? rupees to dollars huh? i love rt but this story smells like bs.
I'm going to school thanks to a government grant. Thanks to President LBJ, every poor student in America is offered free money for college. It's a shame that most people are too busy complaining // feeling sorry for themselves to realize how much help is available for them.
Also, the Junior College system in California is one of the best on earth. An entire semester will cost you $1250 TOPS, and gives you credit transfer to a UC // CSU !!
No one can deny that Indian universities have excellent and intensive courses. But why don't we see them when it comes to university world rankings ? Is the quality of research not as good as it should be ?

Indeed, if I may be allowed the anachronism, the Hindus were Spinozites more than two thousand years before the existence of Spinoza; and Darwinians may centuries before Darwin; and evolutionists many centuries before the doctrine of evolution had been accepted by the scientists of our time, and before any word like 'evolution' existed in any language of the world.

OMGlab 2 months ago

MrFattyfatfatboy 2 months ago
@MrFattyfatfatboy ----india's population will not reach 1.6 billion in the next 20 years
abh3092 2 months ago
@abh3092 look up your stats and its also because of bang away dlesh because they are starving and moving to india anyhow keep breeding Australia Canada and anywhere white is going to be rich on the excessive food we produce to feed you guys
MrFattyfatfatboy 2 months ago
@MrFattyfatfatboy ----you bloody racist rascal albino prick! india's fertility rate is barely 2.2 if it falls below 2.1 india's population actually would start declining.Actually india is one of the largest producer of food as india has one of the worlds largest area under agriculture.India has passed a law that guarantees every indian the right to food.
abh3092 2 months ago
@abh3092 you will have 1.6 billion in less than 20 years im basing that on facts provided by indian burea of stats , Australia and Canada combined are bigger than russia yet have 50 million people together you are half as big as Australia but have 1.3 billion people ,it does not matter how much food you produce now you will spend all your mony on food anyhow it means that just to eat indian will be smarter than rich white people who dont breed like you and african cousins.
MrFattyfatfatboy 2 months ago
@MrFattyfatfatboy --- do you have a thing called as brain?? india's population growth has started falling,it is lower than most developing countries in the planet.India's population might reach 1.6 billion in 2050 and not 2030.thats what indian stats says and by 2050 india would have become a developed country. It's not how much land you have rather how much fertile land you have,Russia, Canada and Australia are giant waste land.India has the highest fertile land in the planet.
abh3092 2 months ago
@abh3092 im not trying to get in a fight BUT your population is not having 2.2 children in fact india has the highest birth rate in the world you even have more children per head than africa ,then if you look up what your own govt predicts as centres of futre conflict it involves 100s of million of bangaway deshies immigrating to india because land degredation and fertiles yes but not enough to feed the population explosion 7 billionth child was named an indian for a reason.
MrFattyfatfatboy 2 months ago
@MrFattyfatfatboy --thats what i said! you lack a thing called as brain. In india an average woman has 2-3 child,go and read the stats you brainless fool!the country with highest birth rate is congo and india is at distant 80. you brainless duffer. There is nothing called as bangawaydeshi, the word is Bangladeshi,so according to you out of 140 million Bangladeshis 100 million live in india?thats 2/3,is that ever possible, that would be worlds largest displacement ever taken place.go check ur brain!
abh3092 2 months ago
@abh3092 look your the one with theyre head in the clouds bangaway desh is the same as india with a out of controll population so yes 100s of million plus your own poor having 10 to 12 kids each all your reading is about a small fraction middle class india despite its size is going to be the most populous country in the world oil is a catalyst for food production is in decline in 10 years when your population hits 1.5 billion your going to be eating one another.
MrFattyfatfatboy 2 months ago

@MrFattyfatfatboy bangladesh is not same as india, bangladesh is the country of muslim bengalis. When i say average indian woman, the statistics skews towards the poor.Even the poor do not have more than 3 kids.Had india a birth rate of 10 kids per woman then india's population would have been reaching 2 billion by now.The middle class in india have only 1 kid.Your donkey brain is not checking the statistics. You are just barking like a dog.Instead of shouting at me you should better attend a school
