  • Seeing Velsheda come powering past us under spinnaker (as in all the rest of the IRC0 fleet!) at the start of this years Round the Island was just awesome! Hope I get to sail on one of these sometime!

  • I had the honour of sailing aboard Endeavour from St. Bart's for one day in 1989, courtesy of Elizabeth Meyer. A memory I will cherish till the day I die.

  • I don't think the Americas Cup has been raced for in 12 metres for quite some time. The last 12 to win the Americas Cup was Stars & Stripes with Dennis Connor at the the helm

  • You are correct sir! They now race IACCs (International Americas Cup Class). I doubt the Js will ever be developed for racing again but it is great that those remaining are sailing.

  • i agree, the new "AC90" boats look like a 90 foot windsurfing board, J class boats are the ultimate racing yachts, good to see theres still people with enough taste (and money) to bring some of them back to life.

  • Totally agree amcernichiari If they could channel some of the money from the national lottery and build a national J-class them just think of the possabilitys. If I won a biiiig win then that's what I would do.

  • J-Class the ultimate in grace, power and style.

  • very true, this mess with the current AC is just bollocks, they should remake the j-class and have a regatta around the isle of wight, to decide a new winner and that's the end of it. and they should have it around the isle of wight once a year, and try to turn it into an event like the 24 hours of lemans or something like that
