@TheMirzu When we learn techniques at my dojo our sensei always point out options for atemi if you happen to get in a real situation and need to use a bit more force, but we don't do much with it usually because our specific style, Kokikai Aikido, places a really strong emphasis on minimum effort maximum effect so that theoretically you wouldn't need to use it. But I agree its very good to know your options for practical purposes and is even negligent to not be shown them.
@Scyeth No that is a misconception. It is never meant to initiate an attack. Not every technique is gonna look pretty. You often will have to set it up or finish the opponent off.
@masterpackman It is a spot on the right side of your body, about an inch below your nipple, or just under your pectoral muscle. In many ways it hurts worse than if you were to get hit in the solar plexus. I've personally put people on the ground by hitting them there. It's a very good target. I suggest you learn all you can about vital points. Very useful and effective.
it's a demo. in mma all the action is so quick. mma is pretty brute force, boxing and kick boxing and fist action. not many aikido, ju jitsu like they demo in youtube. demo like these make it look easy becos one is a demostrator, another is hit n pause just for the sake of the demo. m....i guess practice makes perfect. i need to find someone to demostrate on. let see ! my 99yr old grandpa !!! yes.
@187dAFeD "I have experience with criminals and the only thing that actually works is brazilian " he never finished; maybe someone put a chokehold on him while he was typing. God, I love liars - they make me laugh.
aikido was my first love :) but i cant afford to pay the fee :( so i just watch it since i was 16years old. its been nearly 12 years ;(...................
There are strikes in Aikido. Its called Atemi waza. They are not often emphasized but they exist in Aikido. There are youtube videos of O Sensei using atemi strikes. Please research more.
FIRST OFF IN AIKIDO THERE ARE NO STRIKES i have to stay nice performance but remember ITS ALL ABOUT not striking or using aggression so DUDE TEACH AIKIDO but not WITH THE strikes.... some one who has no idea about aikido is going to have the wrong concepts . SHINTOISIM..... AND BUDO is the art of preserving the peace.... ok
Nice to see a decent MA instructor with expert village. Good video, decent explanation ("very painful" not withstanding) and most importantly, obviously knows his stuff.
@thehymner i started training in Aikido with a very bad instructor, he was never in balance and trew goofy techniques, barely explaining why.
i just left.
I'm more the Bas Rutten type of guy, because of my background, training and spent years as a bouncer.
BUT i gave Aikido a second Chance with an official Aikikai instructor.
man, i tell you that i just attacked him full force once, and i found Myself on the ground, no clue what happened and a very sore arm, no i practice with him.
I understand what you say because I know bad Aikido instructors, but you put in the same bag thousands of instructors that have chosen aikido as a way of life, have you train with them all? is that is your opinion I respect it, but if you let me, I recommend you to go to a couple of aikido dojo's and train there a while, nothing bad can surge of that! and when you gain trust, ask all your doubts, attack the sensei in the way you believe is right and see what happens, maybe you win, maybe you lose
one of the failings of aikido is that the instructor can mix and match in whatever the hell he wants with zero credibility, like punches that were never part of a single school of aikido training. but our master here can teach whatever the hell he wants, becuz in aikido no one is there to test him. other masters prove their worth by winning competitions. you guys buy hakamas from "masters" like yourselves..
@thehymner Is not there anyone to test him? what about the students?? Students taht often started in other martial arts ... if the sensei is good you see it, you feel it when you attack, you hear it in his speeches
"other masters prove their worth by winning competitions" ?? I Know a national karate champion, a monster ..he was knocked by a regular guy in a club for like two hours..and the worst Is That he start it ...
@thehymner i can see why you would think that Aikido isnt very effective, and thats because the people that train in Aikido know how bad it hurts, so when you see these videos the people follow through with the sensei so they dont end up with a broken arm or something, trust me i've actually used Aikido, and i've had Aikido used on me, and it hurts like hell
@GuitARPlayr100 the reason i said what i said is exactly because i've taken aikido. i do not doubt its holds/locks/chokes can disable some drunk dude in a bar fight. but i can learn these holds/locks/chokes in other martial arts in half the time spent without going through the theoretical stuff that your sensei only tried on students and in demonstrations.
@thehymner well my sensie may have only done it on students and in competitions, but i've used it in a real fight before, and i know what you mean about being able to learn some of the holds in other martial art classes, because i have also trained in other martial arts as well
Aikido truly is the most beautiful and most dangerous martial art! Ive been taken aikido for 3 months now n its the best thing i have ever Did! mrjudo 6th kyu-Aikido
@TheRogueMonk - If it's a combination of moves you learn, then perhaps he has adapted them to create this sequence. I respect your perspective whether you're a traditionalist or progressive. I started out many years ago as a traditionalist but over the years my philosophy took a progressive approach (after Royce :-). Just me, not peddling anything. I like this guy's approach. I integrated Aikido and other traditional arts into my BJJ and especially Krav Maga. Made it my own and kept adapting.
@adaptiveagile i promote doing this... i just would like to keep principals intact... i am not saying he is not doing that. I just dont know the words to these techniques .. so its unfamiliar to what i know to be ordinary grading...
there is nothing wrong with adding and connecting .. the princiapsl are very important inner and outer
@TheRogueMonk -- Understood. Good to see respectful and intelligent dialogue on Youtube of all places -- did something happen while I was away?? I spoke to my Aikido sensei about this vid -- as his style is similar to the sensei here. He learned it from a guy in St. Louis who was a student of Sensei Segal. I got a lot out of my teacher's style, and applied it to my other martial arts, where it has served me well.
love this one

@TheMirzu I agree pure aikido in combat could work against you. Atemis are a great thing to use.

Obviously he knows about acupoints.
Liver 14 is - as the title suggests - the 14th point on the liver meridian.
In acupuncture and acupressure the point is used to move stagnant chi, relieve lung disorders, heart problems etc...
Really superb demonstration he makes it look so easy.

U can strike in aikido and its called atemi, u dont want to use pure aikido in real self defence.
