@FreakyKing2 Harley-Davidson acquired 49% of Buell in 1993, and it became a wholly owned subsidiary by 2003, which was 51%(I think). Then they discontinued the Buell brand October 15th, 2009.
I hope to be getting a Buell 1125cr in the coming months. Man I wish they were still being made. I'm still hopeful that they can return one day! Make it happen Erik!
Now I like Harleys, but I don't like Harley for what they have done to Buell, seems a shame that America's only sportbike company got stung this way, sad for Americans and worldwide fans of Buell too. When I get enough money together, I will buy a Triumph or a Guzzi in protest at Harley instead of the Sportster I was looking at.
@asmith929 Look up the typhon 1190....its his newest special edition production bike said to be released this spring. Only problem is that, its going to be crazy expensive. He'll be back!!!
I, like so many people here hate harley for what they've done, but I believe that Erik and team will raise again. I own 2 Buell bikes simply because every time I compaired bikes Buell came out on top. I love everything about them from styling to power to weight ratio. If I could tell Erik one thing it would be, "NEVER give up your dream". Your passion is shared by so many, and we will support you. I cant wait to see what Buell comes out with next!
You knew a long time before that Buell was going under but continued to sell. Nobody would've bought your overpriced garbage if they knew the company was going belly up in a couple of years.
Buell why did this happen ... I loved buell I may live in Greece but I am a big fan I tried getting a buell but never had the money for it now that I rased the money I can't find a new bike ... Shit man why .... !!! There is only one way Buell please try again from scratch we are all with you and will always support you ...
I'll never buy a Harley for what they did to Buell. I think Harley should just go ahead, follow their hearts, and outsource manufacturing to China. Buell was American. Harley is a traitor.
i pray to god harley is trying to raise demand by stopping production for a few years just to bring it back better than ever... if not then DOWN WITH HD!!!!
I totalled my '08 Buell Lightning XB12Scg last year, and could have replaced it with a rice or pasta rocket. Instead, I chose to simply get an '09 Buell Lightning XB12Scg!
You can see how much soul and effort Erik and his crew put into making each bike...
Don't count on Buell staying out of the game. I have a feeling he and his company will resurface...
How ironic, the same year Buell wins the championship H-D gives them the axe!! In my book Erik still went out on top, HE DID BUILD THE BEST BIKE, and he got his win. I own a '08 XB12S, and will own it for the rest of my life, it's not for sale at any price. H-D will never get another penny from me and I will never own anything that has an H-D badge on it, they can rot. They turned their backs on the only man in their arsenal that was inovative and forward thinking. H-D is dead!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This guy Buell is an idiot..He destroys a Blast (his best selling bike) in an advertising ploy..So, everyone who bought a Blast is a fool !?...Bad move Eric no wonder you're losing market share
H-D told him to discontinue the Blast so they could keep it for the Riders Edge program. Erik agreed then H-D slit his throat. H-D's CEO is a moran who has lost touch with "the rider".
Buell was accomplishing things that Harley had only tried to do and failed. Buells were getting better and better every year. Harley's been making the same shit for years, just with different paint jobs. The only change Harley has made lately is a bigger frame for their Touring models to hold the fat-asses that ride them, plus their new Trikes that only the rich can afford....(boring). H-D is disliked by so many REAL motorcyclists, and it's not hard to understand why.
In this video, Listen to what Erik Buell and the engineers say about technological innovation, improvement, affordability and free thinking.
Then contrast that philosophy and work ethic with what HD has been doing for the past decades. Theirs is the same mentality that has brought companies like GM and Chrysler to their knees.
@moonrunrs yeah when harley first started out. They where just like everyone else. They had to bring new technologies to the table. But ever since the company became financially unstable. They just decided to go with image. Buell doesn't do the image bullshit. Good products sell themselves.
@moonrunrs Lol, and the passion you hear in his voice when he says "lets show those guys we can build something here in the US that can beat them." For decades our vehicles and bikes have been crap compared to imports and in most racing circuits outside the US, we're laughed at. Only a few cars, and almost no bikes in the last 40 years from the US have made an impact on racing, or the image of american quality products. (continued)
@moonrunrs (continued) That contrast in philosophy you're talking about gives us a reputation across the world for making the biggest, boxiest, ugliest, gas guzzling-est behemoths on the road, which is why most of what we sell to the rest of the world is trucks and heavy machinery. Not that failing to be the best is shameful, but when you give up even trying there's a problem. Nations should strive to improve and innovate just because it makes the world better, and it feels like that (continued)
@moonrunrs (continued) spirit is dead in the US. The term "made in america" has become a joke. It usually means designed in america, built somewhere else, inefficient, clunky, and ready to implode the second the warranty expires.
I will mis the XB Bikes they were cool stuff. Had 5 of those but the death of Buell cannot be news when you look at a 1125 and the reliability issues.
I live in Mukwonago WI and am proud to say the people who build and design Buell's are my friends and local residents. When made in the usa is fast becoming a joke, it is great to see such a honest american success story unfold. Erik's the man- Harley bet right when they took his company on, they really needed a good kick in the performance pants...
These words all ring true. Unfortunately, Harley Davidson doesn't feel the same way and decided to kill an innovative company that was finally seeing success. Thanks HD.
Buell is such an amazingly underrated motor company. They picked up on efficient and performance-oriented engineering while Harley decided to chase looks instead.
awsome video. I love my xb12r. the japs may get me on the straight but throw a turn in there and im back on there ass. Turns are where the funs at any idiot can straight at 180!

I will buy an old Buell before I buy a rice burner or a bowling ball with a seat...
