It was a stupid move for Wimbledon to not change the seedings in 2009. Venus was the 2 time defending champion yet they still seeded Safina #1 and Venus 3 and Serena 2. And look what happened to #1.

@Sessylius But Venus is 31 years old I think her time has passed. I like Venus but losing to Pironkova two years in a row by an identical score is shocking! I just don`t feel that Venus has the consistency. She hasn`t proven she can beat the top players when it matters most that`s why she is NOT winning any slams. Venus is also NOT getting any younger. Time is NOT on her side.

@JordanjamesX her movement is god awful now...she totally has lost her movement...her last good chance was last year's us open...no serena...but she couldnt even get past kim, which she totally shouldve done because shes more talented...no movement, no confidence...she's done for sure now

@JordanjamesX Why was it so shocking? She's just gotten back on tour from an injury, and Pironkova has ALWAYS been a poor matchup for Venus, even when she was at the top of the game. The judgment might be a little premature. If Venus starts losing to Ivanovic or something, then I'll agree with you.

@EllaMenoPee2003 Pironkova never played Venus when she was at the top of her game. Pironkova first beat her in 2006, probably Venus' worst year ever. 2010 and 2011 are FAR from Venus' best too. Venus beat her in 2005.

@davetennisx2 I would argue that her overall game was better in 2006 than it is now, perhaps she was just as injured with her dodgy wrist. It goes further to my point: a better moving, better playing Venus loses to Pironkova when she's injured back then (and in 2009, some suspect). Why would she win now? Pironkova isn't the easiest draw for Venus. Neither is Rezai, Jankovic, Li Na, etc.

@Sessylius Well we will see.... this year wimbledon will be very interesting because the field is wide open! You have some new talents who've improved their game lately and are looking to break through like Na Li and Wozniacki... and you have vets who are coming back from injuries (Serena, Venus Sharapova) so it'll be interesting to see who will break through to win it all this year. I still feel Serena will win because she doesnt meet a seeded player til the quarterfinals

It's been all Serena lately and I will be so happy if Venus can win 2 more Wimby's... if she wins one more that'll make me happy. Yea she has more of a confident demeanor lately but how long will that last and will that be enough to get her through 7 matches in a slam. I dont mean to be so pestimistic but she's given me a reason to doubt her ability at this point in her career

I hate seeing this match because my baby Venus went onto lose in the finals to Serena as usual! If Serena wasn't around winning every damn thing Venus would have many more slams.. she would definitely have 3 more Wimbledons to her name and a French Open title! I hope Venus can win another Wimbledon title although at this point that's not very likely
