I bet the reason why people join private servers is that the levling in maplestory is way too fucked up (compared to e.g WoW where max lvl is 85 and its easy as fuck to lvl up to 60.). And the other reason is probably that people don't want to waste their money on goddamn expensive temporary fucking cosmetic things that could be free but aren't. And despite the fact they earn probably millions of dollars every day their servers lag. So it just feels retarded to "donate" them money for nothing...
