This game and DDR are nothing alike besides the fact that they are both rhythm games and have you hit notes at the right time, which is usually the case for most rhythm games.
yeah, i think you're right that it's japanese. i don't even know what the arcade was called. it was kind of a hole in the wall and you walked down some stairs to get into the arcade. i know it was in the Tsim Sha Tsui area down the road from a building with a big LCD advertising screen. the arcade had some other cool games like a rip-off of Guitar Hero, another drum game, and a zombie shooter. but this game was the best just because it is so damn happy!
Hmmmm... I used to play this in an import arcade (pretty much just an arcade with imported systems) in england, I'm not usually good at rhythm games, but for some reason I could play this game on the hardest setting and hit almost every note with ease (not joking) and then I bought the game for ds (thinking it would be more of a challenge) but i flogged that game too, i didnt think i was anything special, but i guess I was :D

The title is "Taiko no Tatsujin", or "Taiko: Drum Master" for Western-speaking continents.
