Don't know where you got your information for this, but it's way wide of the mark. Might be worth mentioning, too, that Copernicus (to whom you wrongly ascribe 'everything Galileo did') was a Catholic priest - rather making a mockery of the claim that Galileo ended the Church's monopoly over science and reason.
Galileo affected western world to so much that Einstein himself changed his equations, because he couldn't stand dynamic model of the universe. He believed universe to be static and until he was proved wrong by other scientists using classical mechanics of Newton.
I'm glad I found this because honestly I was seriously considering of just watching anime instead of studying but I thought "Wow dude I just remembered there's actual smart stuff on youtube" & searched for the scientific revolution, test is tomorrow, & this was the first interesting thing I found so I thank you for feeding my addiction to funny videos & more or less giving me a quick lesson, take no offence but I'll still have to look at notes & make fucking flash cards. sigh. Thank you sir!!
Vulgar yet educational, I love it. One thing though, Galileo didn't invent the telescope. Hans Lipperhey invented the telescope, but never used it to view the sky. Galileo heard about it and built a better version (without ever seeing one) and used it to view the sky.
please help me ı have homework about this video ı need to translate it but ı cant understand it completly please send me a message what does it says(word by word)
Galileo said: "All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them." We need to start working together to discover the truths of life that we all have in common. This is how we can unite and focus on our essential similarities instead of our dividing differences. Search for "Truth Contest" in Google and click the 1st result, then click "The Present" to open it. What it says will turn this world right-side up if it reaches enough people.
This video almost redeemed itself at 3:09. That bit about Galileo inventing the telescope- unforgivable. As well as leaving out how Galileo used the telescope to help organized crime pricefix goods since they knew when ships were coming to port before anyone else.
For top philosophy of religion & sceptical analysis of Bible & religion try Robert M Price,'The reason driven life', John W. Loftus, Dan Barker, Victor J. Stenger. Mackenzie,' Egyptian myth and legend', James G Frazer, 'The Golden Bough', Thomas Paine, Joseph Wheless, Robert Ingersoll, C.Dennis Mckinsey, Valerie Tarico , wisdomcommons
Galileo didn't invent the scientific method, he got it from the arabs (perhaps indirectly) ie from those like Ibn Haytham. And he got that scientific method from the quran.
Galileo did not invent the telescope, it was invented in the Netherlands. Galileo did however figure out how it worked when he heard about the invention and made his own. Galileo was also the first to use it to observe extra terrestrial objects
This is so great. Thanks for destroying my stereotype of modern philosophy students as chain-smoking, black turtleneck wearing, anal, brooding, humorless dandies.

to blame Aristotle for everything such as creating the idea that the sun orbits the earth is a bit unfair as that was the ptolemaic view. Although I heartily agree with science and philosophy being separate (connected but not the same thing)...now somebody should go explain that to Dawkins...

Copernicus was never condemned by the Church. In fact the Copernican theory was applauded by Pope Clement VII before Galileo. Galileo was just an ass who was just asking to be imprisoned ... so he was.
"There are only two ways of living, one is as if nothing is a miracle, the second is that everything is a miracle. I believe in the latter." --- Albert Einstein
"I used to be a atheist, till I thought I was God." --- John Lennon
@TheMaven19 Man, that guy is a great scientist, but he is not very good for philsophy. Also, he has not contribuited greatly to the philosophical history, yet. Also, he has not invented a new philosophical system or something that great that would put him among the greatest philosophers.
@all Contrary to legend, both Galileo and the Copernican system were well regarded by church officials. Galileo was the victim of his own arrogance, the envy of his colleagues and the politics of Pope Urban VIII. He was not accused of criticising the Bible, but disobeying a papal decree. He never left his Christian faith
@grfield1 Galileo was 'interrogated (tortured?) by the Inquisition under the direct command of Pope Urban VIII over his printed Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems. Arrogance?
I suppose the Copernican system was loved by every catholic, except the Pope and his Inquisition.
Perhaps it was arrogant to state mathematical calculations that chipped away at the Catholic god's omnipotence.
I would be hard pressed to leave 'my' christian faith as well if the punishment was death.
@AtheistDaddy Galileo appeared before the Inquistion in 1615 and was neither imprisoned nor tortured. He got a mild censure and was sent on his way. By 1633, he faced charges that he had persisted in promoting his theories as though they were matters of faith and provable by the Bible. Galileo was incarcerated, not, as is commonly thought, in some gloomy, rat-infested dungeon, but in the palace of Niccolini, the Tuscan ambassador to the Vatican and an ardent supporter of Galileo
the illumanti don't what us to beleive in Aristotle, that why they hire galileo to fake all his discoveries to untermind Aristotle's teachings. Why do the illumanti don't what us to beleive in Aristotle. because Aristotle is the word of zeus and the illumanti worship Eris and Hades.
Also Galileo was never in prison...he was invited to the vatican and stayed 11 days as a guest of the pope who was an admierer of Galileo's. He was given ample opportunity to prove heliocentric theory as fact but could not. You know who finally did prove it as fact? That's right the Catholic Fuckin' Church, Beeotch! Jesuits working at the vatican's observatory provided the final proofs of Copernicus. Wanker!!!
Yeah, actually the church did not doubt Galileo base don the bible...but on Galileo's own inability to prove Copericus' theory. The church has this crazy notion that theories that aren't proven by science must not be taught as fact (nutty, right?) and Galileo was instructed not to teach heliocentric theory as a fact because it was not proven. Galileo did not "invent" scientific method...
@mellamosean Name one. The fact is, the church created scientific method and has ALWAYS maintained a strict difference between what is an article of FAITH and what is scientific FACT. Perhaps you should base your opinion of the church on fact and not myth? Perhaps.
the age of the earth, creationism, heaven and hell, angels, god. religion is not based on scientific fact. believe if you want, but please don't cite science as a source in favor of your beliefs.
@mellamosean The church has no official position on the age of the earth. Perhaps you are confusing the church with groups of biblical literalists who are but a fraction of Christians...not neccessarily part of the Church. As far as heaven, hell, angels, God etc. The church considers them articles of faith...not "fact" . Again, learn more about the church before you toss your opinions around...and any time you'd like to answer my original question you go right ahead.
@mellamosean Oh, and by the way...it was a Catholic priest who codified the Big Bang theory, was it not? Age of the earth indeed. I never cited science as a basis for anything. And I quite sure I didn't mention what it is *I* believe. Please go back and read what I wrote again...then come back and answer my question. Thanks.
Ok, I take back "age of the earth," and "creationism." You gotta understand, its hard for an atheist to keep track of who believes what. So the Catholics may be less crazy than other Christians. As far as I know, people essentially consider "faith" the same thing as "fact," despite the different words and meanings.
And I could give a fuck what theories were suggested or confirmed by priests. Irrelevant.
Fuck the church. Maybe it has been good for promoting science in some cases, but it also gets in the way of the spread of ideas. Index Librorum Prohibitorum.
And know, you never mentioned what you believed; however, comments like this "That's right the Catholic Fuckin' Church, Beeotch!" suggest you follow the catholic church... just as my comments suggest, well take a guess.
Even if its not 100% accurate, its still more entertaining than any fucking church sermon, ya puffs!
Awesome video!
