Tips on managing cellulitis - a skin infection

Blistering, high fever and migraine are normal for the first couple of days. Unfortunately, once the blisters pop, more form over new skin. I lost 4 layers of skin in one area. Never use exfoliants like peroxide or alchol. You don't need to be dried out. As for the swelling, that lasted 3 weeks. Cellulitus is an EMERGENCY issue

I was just in the hospital for this for days and on antibiotics (still am) and I had an abcess underneath the infection on my right leg (next to my inner knee) that was drained.....I didn't ask my dr. and I can't reach the hospital but can I put neosporin inside or hydrogen peroxide? it's itching soooooooooooo much! I was given sodium chloride so I don't know if to just use that and suck it up.

Also, I'm not even putting a gauze inside b/c the opening is so small I can't fit the gauze inside

I have a cellulitis infection on my jaw. I hate it. :( I went to the er and they gave me two antibiotics to take. Ive been taking them for three days so far. The swelling has not gone down and I wish it would cause I looked deformed. This is gonna sound nasty but some infection finally came out today and it feels a little better, but there's still a big red not and I can feel that theres still infection. *sigh* This sucks.

I had the same thing happen to me. I finally got an appt w/ a dermatologist who told me to go to the emergency room and let them know that my Dr. recommended an antibotic IV. It got most of the infection out of my body but there is still some in there.

I had cellulitus for a couple of months, but didn't have Health insurance or money to see a physician, so i went on with my regular routine. Then my condition got worse..to where open soars started to appear on my leg, and then a sharp pain. So I went to the ER and they told me its a very serous condition. And I was lucky to come in when I did!!! Cellulitus SUCKS ugh!

In The UK you walk straight into the medical center and no one mentions money. its all about getting you better there rather then bleeding your visa card. I have had one course of IV and another course of oral antibiotics but my leg is still swollen and there is a painful hard warm mass that is still painful to touch along my shin, that has now been present for 6 weeks - how long will it take to clear up?

In case it will help anyone: I have cellulitis on my knee. Knee looks 1/4 bigger than the other from swelling. Redness. Warm to the touch. I am on penicillin based antibiotics called cephalexin. This is the 4th day of symptoms and I went to the doc for the antibiotics. Wish I had gone on the first or second day. I am going through two large bottles of V8 or a juice with vitamin C every day. I am eating smoothies with strawberries bananas and blueberries ea day. I believe in antioxidants

i have it on my left leg. it probably got more infected because i HAVE to work and HAVE to go to school. i try not standing on my leg, but i have to go to work. its not a question of time off. i really hope it doesnt get worse, i caught it early and have been taking antibiotics every 3 hours.

i would like to know if it always developes puss or if it can just go away? i'm on antibiotics. does it get worse before it gets better? thanks for the tip nobody at the hospital or any md info sites ever said to elevate it. i have a bad back and sleep in a chair so now i guess i'll have tto deal with not being sleep the only way that i can but i guess even though it feels like it will my back pain won't kill me celulitis could! thank-you for this video. I noticed mine last Tuesday and it was like a pimple so I popped it. Next it got bigger. This continued through Friday when I could barely walk, could barely breathe, and was throwing up everything and had fever. I spent the day in the ER on Saturday was admitted that night and was just discharged this even at 7pm. Its not completely gone but it is getting smaller with the antibiotics, and I can barely walk. It IS blinding pain and I had to use an electronic chair at Walmart. Ugh...go away! =/

If anyone tells you this isn't a painful infection, don't listen to them. I have this right in the navel area, and it's not like blinding crippling pain, but trust me when I say I hope to never get this again.

You just can't move when the infection is in the center of your body. You just have to be creative on how to stand up and lay down, just use your arms and legs for all the work, don't let your abdominal muscles do any of the work.

I developed it last Thursday (14 Jan) in my left arm. I though it was from drinking from a public fountain, or a bug bite, so I saw a doctor. He looked at it, cuz I had welts on my upper arm, and a blister on my forearm with a raised red streak going from it. He gave me antibiotic, which after three-four days cleared it up, but now it spread to my right arm, even tho I'm still taking the medicine. Hopefully it will clear up from taking the rest of the meds.

Since I am self-employed I could not afford the luxury of staying at home all the time with my leg elevated which probably extended my agony. Again, the doctor's advice is great, but to really get rid of this nasty infection take lots of antbiotics! and rest as much as you can

I got it from constantly falling on my elbow and finally one hard fall that somehow didn't didn't break my arm caused to to swell like a goose layed twenty eggs under my elbow. Currenlty getting it treated. Am i more likely to get it agian in the same spot now?

Ive just got on a skiing holiday and i have it in my foot, i think athletes foot caused it. i am having 3-4 garlic cloves per day 1 or 2 avocados, a kiwi for vitamin c and plenty of water.. and any other raw fruit or veg i want.. I'll let you know how i get on.

i have cellulitus infection on my left tigh and around my knee on my right leg. i am taking cephalexin and and using triamcinolone as a sterioid. i been taking it for abour 24 hrs now but i dont think it improving. how long do u think i should wait to be concerned? and what does serious cellulitis infection look like? i think i got it from shaving and then putting a fragrance lotion right over it then it burned, got red then itchy. do u think thats the reason i got the infection?

i was in south padre for the weekend and skinned my knee at the hotel and after 3 days it started to swell and get red and very hot. i kept it clean, and put antibiotic ointment on it, but i guess it wasn't enough. i came down with a fever last night, and my mom got me some PO antibiotics(Bactrim DS) and i feel a lot better now. i know this may sound odd, but i'm happy this happened because i'm in nursing school right now, and now i know the S/S and how to treat it. this vid was also helpful.

ive had this for over 4 years and doctors gave me a amoxocilline as im allergic to penacillin and it has come up again no warning the infection is that bad that when i start to get it i shiver that violently that i cant move just shake for 24hrs then leg swells and goes purple,, with blotches then each time it has appreared over the 4 years its got worse and worse doctor i have been seing says to carry on takin amox but doing nothing been admitted with iv antibiotics anddid nothing any more tips

That's not cellulitis. That's something systemic, the shivering gives that away. Additionally, if you were allergic to penicillin they wouldn't prescribe you amoxicillin as it's related. They'd more than likely give you doxycycline. If anything it sounds like you have methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus in which case doxycyline is a must.

See a different doctor.

I have cellulitis in my left ankle now. I was involved in traffic accident where I was knocked off my bike by a car. What was a small bruise on my left ankle has degenerated into cellulitis; very uncomfortable. I'm taking 6 oral antibiotic pills　per day and I would dearly love to keep my left foot elevated above my heart but it's not very practical at work. I have not been given time off work and I can only hope that the antibiotics and my elevated white blood cell count is doing the job.

I just had a reoccurrance of cellulitis and it's definitely no fun. First time, had it in my leg and was on IV antibiotics. This time though, it's the back of my neck thats affected and the doctor prescribed oral antibiotics.

If you suspect you have cellulitis, be sure to see your doctor as soon as possible.

i just came from the er last night. no insurance. and i was going to get some next week sux. now i got this on my right shin and got a follow up. i had a fever of 103. but was broke when they gave me a injection of antibiotics. now its just my leg that hurts and vicodin i got for the pain . that they presribed. wish you luck. i know my billz will hurt me too. and im a single 25 year old :(
