She's singing about her soul being in pain because she sees all these kids her own age holding hands and looking in each others eyes but she doesn't have anyone to love her. It's so sad.
Quelle joli voix! Bravo!
@wrichik I did! I only know a few French words, but I've translated and remembered the meaning of every sentence in this song. The lyrics are actually very beautiful and sad. It's about a girl who sees everyone of her age having a boy/girlfriend, except for her, which makes her feel lonely.
When I took high school French class back in the 1970s our teacher made us listen to this. All the girls were swaying to the music excessively, but we high school boy were honor-bound to hate anything about romance and love. It's actually a very sad, pretty song, and I had no idea that Francoise was so pretty too since we didn't have YouTube, the Internet or even personal computers back in those days. Heck, I didn't even have a hand-held calculator! :-D
@60evergreen Hi Evergreen! If you're saying that you're too young to have experience the 1970s, then don't feel bad. We had the terrible war in Vietnam, and stagflation across America and Europe. You didn't have to live through those messes, but thanks to YouTube and the Internet you can still sample the few great things we produced, like this video! :-)
It's just sad how the french have lost the golden moments of their 20th century culture. Francoise Hardy,Joe Dassin,Anna de Noailles and many more are a perfect example of what the french culture was.
It's just sad i cant think of any french artist that closes even a bit to what they have accomplished. France,as well as every other european country should be proud of what their artists made and think about the future generation that will replace them.
@MrMastera i agree that they contributed a lot more to popular culture than any other european country, but it still doesn't hide the fact that so much that was produced was derivative of the music the english and americans were creating at the time.
@robjs89 I don't really agree with that :) It's true, french pop and rock music has always been inspired by american and english music.
But not the so-called "chanson francaise", whose meaningful lyrics don't imitate anyone. Not that a new genre was created : many countries have their own local songs, nothing extraordinary in that...except that they have unique characteristics. Does the song "Non, je ne regrette rien" from Edith Piaf (1961) have ANY american influence ? I don't think so ^^

All the boys and girls my age
Walk down the street in pairs
All the boys and girls my age
Know well what it means to be happy
Eyes in eyes, and hand in hand
They fall in love without fear of tomorrow
Yes, but I, I walk the streets alone, the lost soul
Yes, but I, I am alone, because nobody loves me
