Eloquence and erudition seem to be qualities generally lacking in society, but occasionally one finds standout comments amongst the roughage. That so many people find Beck to be a reliable source for objective opinion is disheartening but not surprising. It s discouraging that intelligent people such as you must acknowledge this and then be subjected to the barrage of barely coherent nonsense and flood of non sequiturs that follow (no pun intended).

I am not justifying anything. Understanding history does not mean I think what they did was ok. Read a book on the era. If you did you would see that this very issue was discussed and avoided because some states would have started a civil war over it. The usa was not the monolith it is today back then. Each state had its own money and even thier own armies.

When slavery was finally ended, the just thing to do would have been to send all the former slaves and their offspring back to Africa, where they would have enjoyed the wonderful society that Africans have built for themselves right up to this very day. I'm not a white supremacist in the least. I mentioned Liberia to Oglenthorne because he said sending blacks to Africa was a good idea. In history there were some blacks that agreed, and we did that already. That country is Liberia. I wasn't trying to point to a bad African nation, I was trying to say that blacks are more American than African at this point, and they were 150 years ago when this country participated in the "back to Africa" idea. Check up on Liberia, it's interesting.
