in america the tiguan has the same engine as the GTI (us standards) which is 2.0T 200 hp... kia sucks

"Volkswagen is quality'? Yeah about 40 year ago! If you do an honest search on the internet, there are NUMEROUS websites and forums filled with horror stories about VW's bad reputation here in the U.S. I'm surprised that VW of America hasn't been slapped with lawsuits over very poor quality control and thier awful dealership network problems! One such website to checkout is "Cars-that suck".com...it lists hundreds of complaints by customers, and even the VW forums are filled with complaints.

Volkswagens fall apart faster than you can say "FARVENUGEN"!!! German engineering is overrated....even the quality of BMW.Mercedes,and Audi has been going down steadily! And European cars are alot more expensive to fix and maintain!

my 2006 kia sportage lx is the shit..rides smooth as hell, great power, comfortable seats with leather interior... they arent shitty lol

I live in the U.S. and for a Tiguan, it's close to about $28,000. For a Sportage, $22,000. I really don't know which I like better. I like the VW for it's styling cues and engine and the KIa for it's 10 year warranty and great gas mileage. I'd probably choose the VW because my parents owned a VW and NEVER gave them problems.

@gooziddaiejoon you're the one who's crappy m8, it cost thousands less, and u can then equip it with great stuff instead of spending money for nothing, i go for Sportage, and if Kia/Hyundai are bad explain why they are the 4th largest manfacturer in the World?! better than Honda Ford Nissan and lots of brands that come up to your ears, and Kia/Hyundai's boosting +32% in January 2010 proves it, and they will get on top of VW Group ( VW Audi Skoda Seat Bugatti.... etc ) this year SO SHUT IT!!!!!

Check out iihs roof crush test, the sportage is the worst contender the tiguan the best.

Then there's the great looks, Tdi engine, and the fact your driving a vw. :-)

I like the Sportage better based on looks alone. Whether or not it is tougher, it LOOKS tougher. The Tiguan looks delicate and feminine. Not exactly SUV material.

I hate KIA Sportages dashboard. The doors are actually a lot wider than the actual space to get into the car, the dashboard for some reason curves so it gets much wider near the doors. It also forms a POINT. Even with the seat back I keep hitting my knee on this pointy part. Not all the time but at least 4 times already. I'm smart enough to know how to get into a vehicle but I think KIA has a serious design flaw with this sharp pointy dashboard thing. My knee is black and blue today : (
