Your the actual idiot. The iPhone 3G has a highly (and I mean highly) scratch resistant glass screen. If you have actually tried (I have) you will see that it's truely scratch resistant. Put the same pressure (even light pressure with a knife) on a standard phone screen and you'll be crying if that phone is one of yours.

Assuming the Touch 3G doesn't have the oleophobic coating (I don't think it has it) like the iPhone 3G S does then it will be as resistant to scratches as the 3G.

If you didn't know already, the olephobic coating scratches easier than just bare glass but it's still stronger than a normal plastic screen.
