I'm a new fan. Always like Mack the Knife but never knew all the other stuff. Anyway my brother kept telling my about Bobby and I was like, yeah, yeah, until one night I watched you tube videos until 5 AM!!!!! I couldn't stop, and I'm still going strong. What a talent!!!!!!!
Since the late 50s I have been a fan of Bobby Darin, I was totally heartbroken when he passed in 1973, he was a great entertainer in many aspects of his too short life, and career. RIP Bobby, Forever.
carlus99, Thank You for uploading this track. This Song recorded by Walden Robert Cassotto (Genius) (the King) (Top Drawer) (The Man) (bobby Darin) we Love Him!!
Great song! One of Darin's finest recordings. Way ahead of it's time when released. We cringe when these karaoke fools attempt it. This song belongs to Bobby. GIVE US THE REAL THING!
@CBSEye while i agree often in some cases (people can ruin songs), im also a guy who's chuffed when people sing good songs that speak to them. if a person cares about a song, let em sing it, you dont have to listen if you dont want.
Mack the Knife is about a serial killer, so many of Bobby's swing numbers were set to sad or down right awful lyrics, like many have said, only Bobby could swing it and make it work like this!
This song reminds everyone of the responsibility to be charitable towards those who are less fortunate! Remember the widows and orphans and those who are in need of clothing or need to be feed less they go hungry! It is sad that both Bobby Darin & Sandra Dee are both gone now! RIP!

I love loads of varied music however this and BD's version of, 'I Saw Venice Turn Blue' are simply the best, only the good die young is not just sentimental tosh in Darin's case.
This is one of my favorite Bobby Darin songs. It is from the 1960 Broadway musical "Tenderloin", which is about a red-light neighborhood in NYC back in the 1890's. This is the only song from the show that became a hit, reaching #20 on the Billboard pop music charts that year. It is amazing how such a sad song can turn into something so bright and energetic by giving it a great band arrangement and the super talent of Bobby Darin.
They found that koo koo swingin' chick all frozen to death, ooby dooby doo and her heart stopped and she died all alone without a friend, baby! It was a nutty koo koo thing!
read Tom Reynold's book "I Hate Myself and Want to Die" The 52 Most Depressing Songs You've Ever Heard. It's hysterically funny and talks about this song
@Gems4life18 I know! I heard the beat and started getting all into it... and then I listened a bit more and started. Wait... cold little hands? I love the irony!
This is a great song - and quite offbeat. Compare the easy going, upbeat swing style with a message that is quite maudlin, sad, and conservative. It's an unusual mix you don't find much in songs. Somehow Bobby does it and it works.
With a song like this, what is it in the theatre world where they think artificial flowers are bad luck? Annie rules...prima donnas drool.

"Tom Dooley" by the Kingston Trio is a pretty creepy song, too.

I think it works better with the version sung by the Beautiful South...much more heart rendering..this is just a little bit too jovial for me!

This was a popular Victorian song, which Darrin revived. His delivery is what you would call "tongue in cheek."

Check it out by the Beautiful South, they covered it as a slow morbid song, and Paul Heaton offers a faithful complement with his singing.
Gotta love Bobby Darin though huh?
