la jin est trop basse elle ne sert a rien si le bras est au dessous du visage.En combat les coups de pied partent en hauteur la jin n'est pas la pour faire jolie
the bigger guy in this video was in the movie only the strong. he was the dreadlocked capoerista in the beginning and the end of the movie. hes big and has some very fierce kicks. scary!
Bottom line: Without vidoes like these and movies like Only The Strong, all of which may look pretty cheesy because of the production practices and quality and the time that they were made, most of the trash talkers here woul not even know what capoeira is; for many outside of Brasil, their teachers wouldn't either.
My advice is to take one of Mestre Amen's classes now or visit me at his roda. You are welcome with me at his pe do berimbau. These videos are more an example of the nature of the producers than something to learn capoeira or learn about Mestre Amen from. There is only the possible aspect of seeing how capoeira changes stylistically each decade. But for that, roda videos are better.

que video tan horrible... capoeira=? tristemente la capoeira pasa por muchos procesos... los cuales no todos son certeros... este es un buen ejemplo de lo que no es realmente capoeira
My linquistics sucks but they way nickmah replied it sounds like you're talking trash my friend. If you don't like the video then go make your own and see if anyone likes it.
the kicks they showed in order of appearance ar Bênção (straight kick), meia lua de frente (inside crescent), queixada (outside crescent), and armada. Hope that helps.

joselito santos is so shite! he lks fkn tired aledy! he's so sluggish and his ginga isn't even protecting his face. Are you sure these are capoeira mestres?
that relaxed style is the traditional angolan style ginga.........gives the illusion of being weak and sluggish...plus ,they have been prob recording this all day.......you tit lol
You speak of that which you do not know. Until you actually play Mestre Amen in the roda, I would advise you to hold your judgement.
Unfortunately the story of these videos is a sad one and not really mine to tell, but for the sake of clarification the way that the producers ran this shoot was horrible, non stop, multiple takes with no breaks. In my opinion, they were taking advantage of the fact that these two gents were freshy arrived and wanted to show the art.
I'm one of Mestre Amen's older students and have been training with him since some short years after this video set was made. I've talked to and joked with him about it.. He sees it as part of his own learning process.
Señores esto vale ORO donde se puede adquirir esta serie de videos? Tengo 8 años en Taekwondo y quiero incursionar en Capoeira espero no estar muy viejo acabo de cumplir 30 jajaja.
People shouldn't rely on "instructional" videos on capoeira. You won't be learning everything that you should, if its not from a master or from someone that has a great foundation in capoeira, you are wasting your time. Yeah you will learn some moves but you will be shit in the roda. Playing in the roda is the only way you will truly learn and grow.
I'm pretty sure he's adding his own personal flare to it. Let us not forget that much of capoeira is based off of dance. So It's only natural that things like this are left up to interpretation. Remember, its called martial "Arts" not martial "Science"
yet it is one that is open to individual interpretation. if it was "just" a science then there'd only be one all powerful style of combat rather than the thousands of different styles in the world.
The reason there isn't one supreme fighting style is because not all fighting styles fit everyone. Individual's height, weight, reach, etc, strength, etc, all contribute to what styles can work for that person. Science is a system, a body of knowledge. Which martial arts is all about.
Thats why I said that it is an art. In science an answer is definite, there are no variations of an answer in science, yet as you clearly said, martial arts can be adapted to fit the needs of the one who uses it. (I've enjoyed this conversation)
Science is a body of knowledge. Like the Science of living beings is called biology. The science of heavenly bodies is called astrology, etc. Science of human combat is martial arts. Martial arts can be measured, such as speed, leverage, impact, pressure per square inch, etc. Yes theres multiple ways to throw a punch, but all punches boil down to the fist being used to hit something. There's no open interpretation to what a punch is, merely different ways to apply it.
Then why do different styles have different kinds of punches? a punch from "Tiger claw" is not the same as a puch from "karate" or from "Boxing". Every one has made preferred alterations to the "basic" principles of combat to suit their need. Also learning a pattern or form or kata of a specific martial art and performing it in actual combat are two different things entirely.
We could keep arguing this point forever. In reality its a mix. After hundreds of thousands of years of fighting we have developed efficient ways of fighting, beating, and crippling our adversaries, but no martial arts style is alike (and this has spawned much conflict)but thats the beauty of martial arts, It has a purpose beyond fighting. It enriches spirit, strengthens the body, eases the mind and tempers the soul, you cannot say that any science can do all of that at the same time.

I think most people know capoeira through tekken though
batosai70 2 years ago
I'm sure that many do, but those people's teachers, like myself knew of Capoeira before there was tekken
nismail 2 years ago
I first heard of it on tv but tekken really showed me the movements. the anime tenjou tenge and lateef crowder inspired me to learn it though.
Charitsune 2 years ago
apparently samurai champloo is inspired by capoeira too

I know, Mugens champuru style. According to wikipedia, the creator based Mugen's style off of breakdancing supposedly.
