However, you can't just leave young kids to themselves. While some kids might be exceptionally disciplined on their own, many kids need to be told how to structure their days (while they are young). My parents are fully responsible for how they parented, and I'm fully responsible for my own actions too.
@Quiet1 I have a son now, and my husband and I want to make sure that we will not only train him up in the admonition and nurture of the Lord, but also that whatever we can see that he might have a natural ability in, we will do whatever we can to cultivate that. Forcing a kid to practice will not take the "heart" out. He will learn to love it. Sometimes a person might be undisciplined in an area, but still loves it and needs to be forced to do it. It's hard to explain unless you've been there.

Use the computer/TV/game systems, etc. as rewards for self-discipline.

I know in Asia in general they tend to push they're children hard alot of times. I hope this is not the case with this little girl. Instead I hope she is doing more out of love for what she is doing than being driven to perform.

Ever watch "Tots and Tiaras?" Thats an American TV show. Talk about kids being forced into doing things. Ever see some American Little League parents yelling at their own kids and insulting others? Let's not be so quick to judge. Maybe these kids like it and maybe they will be able to do more than bounce around a stage in a bikini when they are 20.

@davinolson You have no idea of what it takes to learn to play the guitar so well? It takes a huge effort even for adults, years and years of study, hours spent on the guitar, enormous sacrifices. How can you think that a child should bear a burden so great on the shoulders of his spontaneous wish?

I actually thought of the Tom Hanks' spoof of "Tots and Tiaras" when I saw this, and I agree that studying and playing music is likely to do them much more good than prancing around in bikinis. I just pray they aren't having to play for the necessities of life -- like food, heat, water, etc. -- or to avoid mental or physical punishment.
