This isn't actually Greek. It's composer is Mısırlı Udî İbrahim Efendi. So he is either El-Misrî Arabic or more likely Turkish.

Even the Greek title is Misirlu which is basicly his title, Mısırlı.

There should be no argument, this song is like almost all early rebetika songs (a style that originated with Greek refugees from Turkey), this song shows people lived together as one, many cultures embrace this song as there own 'folk song' to me it just shows what can happen when different nationalities live as one, ECLECTIC MUSIC STYLE it is a powerful song no one nationality owns it, There are versions in many languages and it brings happiness to many, Listen, Enjoy & Just Shut Up!!!

@seafoodbuffets. Wikipedia is not a reliable source... Anyone can go and write whatever he wishes there. This music was made by a Ottoman Singer known with the name "Misirli Ibrahim Bey" . He lived in in 1872-1933. He was born in Halep (Aleppo) and died in Istanbul. There is no way this song is Greek. It is clearly Middle Eastern tone and written in Hicaz Maqam (tone order). But I can't stop you for believing in whatever you want to... Best of luck on the next one.

Rebetico musicians (aka rembets) are refugees who are moved Greece in 1927 from Turkey because ofThe population exchange between Turkey and Greece. Many of them were living in Turkey for houndreds years. (By the way 200.000 ethnic Turks are also moved Greece because they were Orthodox. Even today surname "Karamanlis" is quite common isn't it?)

Thats why that music sounds "so Turkish" or some Turkish musics sound so greek.

@seafoodbuffets Sorry but very suspicious for that sounds to be originally Greek. It is probably collected and composed from Magribi and Arabian musicians. Geographically this song is either from east side of, or south of Greece. No doubt.
