  • I don't think this guy is living in the real world, welfare makes it very attractive to participate in certain behaviors that would qualify you for payments, whether its divorce, possibly just to better their kid, but it turns into an addiction in which you forget what it would like to be without

  • People need to start going a bit easier on people on welfare, they all want to work but it's just nit worth their while

  • Ha ha ha Ali G jus got owned! Ali is da bomb but tis fella benn out taught him. Welfare is for people who cant get the jobs they want to do, it not fare making people do jobs they don't wanna do's. I've been on benifets for over a year coz I can't find IT job. And I ain't doin no job I hate like warehouse. No way.

  • tony benn on the ball as usual. brilliance personified.

  • I don't know a whole lot of girls that would pass up their teenage years in order to stay home with a screaming baby. Nor do I know I whole lot of 16 year old girls who'd want to give up their tight little mini skirts for maternity clothes.

Welfare is crap. Why do you think "welfare mothers" live in crappy housing projects and not cool, stylish loft apartments?

  • laugh track is horrible

  • I wonder if Tony was in on the joke from the beginning but played along with it for the sake of the interview.

  • G-gee with Mr Biggie LMAOAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! $%&$%&%$

  • @neodave5000 I think you mean jiggy not G-gee lol

  • the pipe...i like

  • The only interviewee who got a proper handshake from Ali G.

I disagree with Benn's politics but salute him for destroying Ali G. Top stuff!

  • Socialism is about wasting money, taxing the enterprising and driving the best people out of the country.

  • @karezza6 and capitalism is about enslaving the poor..

  • 2:52: "...an argument about bollocktits..."

  • I think Ali G stump his guests all of the time but this time he got owned by Tony Benn

  • @moguljam Er Wedgewood- Benn got owned by going on the show in the first place!

  • @regvarney lol ok

  • No fist pump?

  • @brendanmc97 have another listen deary...

  • #LOL

  • Brilliant. TB insists upon his right to express his views without patronining what he could only assume to be a cretinous interviewer. If only there were more politicians who cared about what they had to say instead of what they thought people wanted to hear.

  • GET JIGGY WITH MR. BIGGY HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAA

  • Ali was speaking more sense than ol' Viscount Stansgate here.

  • Tony Benn kicked ass.

  • Where'd that pipe come from?

  • Doing an English exam on this any helpful tips to point out about Ali g and Tony Benn ? Thanks much appreciated guys

  • Tony Benn turned this around and used it as an opportunity to get his views across, and gave Ali G the benefit of the doubt, while still admitting he wasn't totally convinced it, by saying it was 'fun' at the end. The fact that many comments here are arguing the politics and not discussing Ali G or the comedy, shows that Benn made an impression. Many half his age would have been argumentative or vainly taken in, and come out of it looking stupid!

  • ali g and tony benn could talk till the end of the world hahahaha

  • This is the best anti Obama video I have seen yet.

  • @Lefty385 How?

  • @KungfuCow5 Because when government can pay you to stay home and play video games all day, why get a real job?

  • i didn't know America had such a great socialist speaker,

    i applaud Mr. Benn.

  • @knifepartysynthb america? hes british dumbass

  • @knifepartysynthb Dude, he's British (unless you're being sarcastic in some way)

  • @noamorwell Sure not Austrailian? And if he's Welsh or Earthling would content of knowledge or quality of character be less easy to comprehend, duuuuude?

  • @usquir Er, I haven't the remotest idea what you're talking about or if something about my previous reply to knifepartysynthb has offended you

  • Tony Benn is a hero of mine.

  • @TheDensley7 Benn is a hero to all middle class lefties.Che may be dead but Anthony Wedgewood-Benn is alive and well in his Holland Park mansion!

  • Wrong and it is you're BTW :)

  • hate to break it to you but my spelling grammar punctuation and language have not and will not ever matter on youtube

  • @WookzMadvibes Just like your opinions then

  • Groundbreaking social observation:genius.

  • Comment removed

  • @brendanmc97 No that was you.

  • Haven't seen this for about 10 years and it's quite weird now, since the rise of the chav and all that, how idealistic/naive/stuck in the past Benn sounds and how accurate what Ali G is saying sounds. If you go by the media keeps telling us anyway.

  • @graemeoliver84 What Tony Benn said.

  • Comment removed

  • The riots in the UK are the result of the failure of the welfare state. Socialism fails wherever it's tried.

  • @acrovader So what caused the LA riots, since socialism is a dirty word in the USA?

  • @acrovader You ignorant filth.

  • I do not agree with alot of Tony Benn's politics. But I think he is an ablsolute GEM of a politician - he does and says what he genuinely thinks is right.

And that's why he's the only politician I like.

  • nice one tony.........and nice one ali

  • I love Sacha Baron Cohen and Tony Benn! I love how they're both unafraid of controversy and the establishment!

  • I like that Mr Benn. Wish we had more vocal socialists like him here in the USA. Progressives here are afraid to even use the "S" word due to the decades of corporate slander propaganda.

  • @lunhil12 Amen...

  • this is a combination of the two most epic people on earth!

  • 2 people are sleeping with horses!

  • great show, greetings from Kurdistan.

  • Why the hell Tony Benn agreed to be interviewed by that dick head I dont know, and that audience laughing at Al's so called jokes.

  • tony benn is a patronising and out of touch clown.

  • @czeal

HA Ha You iz da clown. For real.

  • @czeal Why ?

  • @czeal , I lot like you then

  • Benn, Chomsky, what I'd do to speak to some of the people Ali G did.

  • Someone convince Tony Benn to run for PM...get the s**t out of No 10, and the 'Boy Band' out of Labour party. Lets have a real PM again...after all these years..one who truly stands by justice and the common man. Back to democracy.

  • @ianmcgeachy Who do you want as PM then ?

  • @imonthebox I'd want Tony Benn. Its not going to happen of course, he's had enough of the shite that passes for party politics these days, and hes done his time and *really* served his country- as WW2 pilot and as politician. This bloke is for real -old school *true* democracy-and makes the present days polticians of both sides look like a bunch of pansies bereft of both spine and integrity. Smarmy pansies reduced to being corner shop accountants..of an economy driven by corporate gamblers.

  • @ianmcgeachy Are you kidding? He's 86 now, even here he seems a bit doddery.

  • If you think girls will get pregnant to get welfare you're living in another world!

It is Mr Benn who is "living in another world"

Like many other politicians living in Chelsea, Kensington etc. They are either, without access to TV or tabloid newspapers or choosing to ignore the real world, full of the scum Ali G is referring, as they don't have to encounter them on a daily basis.

Tony B is out of touch, he didn't appear to recognise the Black British youth culture, init?

  • @ru55ells yeah reading the tabloid newspapers and watching tv means you know about the real world....

  • @WookzMadvibes Err… of course and certainly more so than living in Chelsea, blissfully unaware of the huge population of 3rd generation, unemployed scum, who consider smoking weed a living.

  • @ru55ells your too brainwashed to bother with a debate but its pretty obvious you havent ever met any of the people you hate

  • so much respect for Tony Benn. Loved the guy before, and like him even more after seeing this

  • ""SOMEBODY'LL SHOOT YOU SOMEDAY COZ YOU TREAT THEM LIKE AN ANIMAL!"" loooll

  • Benn was passionate but also took it with good humour. Good man.

  • @James3940 Who was that idiot interviewing him ?

  • You notice there are common themes in almost all Sacha Noam Baron Cohen's videos and films: pro zionist , pro neoliberal capitalism, making fun of the poor, etc. It is all thinly veiled via his outrageous pranks and characters he creates. He is not witty nor intelligent, he is just funny for the "sheeple" who enjoy his work. What he is in real life is a zionist, a racist, and pro economic exploitation. In sum he is really pathetic: Hence, so are his fans.

  • @emotionalinvalid - It seems to me to be satirical, effectively lampooning ignorance and, in this case, allowing Tony Benn to thoroughly rebut some ignorant but sadly widespread opinions. Perhaps I'm being too generous, but that's how I - and many others - enjoy the programme. Thank goodness for semiotics, eh?

  • @emotionalinvalid You're fucked in the head pal, get yourself some meds and stop watching Alex Jones and Glen Beck you witless blithering simp.

  • Benn should run for election!

  • Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way.

  • This is the only guy that not only stood his ground, but actually destroyed Sacha´s concept...

  • notice how he shakes his hand at the end, instead of the fist....he actually had respect for this interview...i really like this tony benn fellow now

  • Tony Benn answers every question, however ridiculous, from his heart. There are many opinions he has I disagree with, but he certainly deserves respect (me main man)

  • Anglosaxons don't understand the basics of political science. it´s true that a Government without control is bad for our liberties, but it is also true (and this is the part they don´t understand because it´s not explained to them) that enormous private sector corporations are also bad for our liberties. So the point is not minimizing government as anglosaxons think (especially in the USA), in a democracy you balance the two of them in order to be free.

  • absolute legend

  • Wow, what a fool. Everything should be voluntary, the exact OPPOSITE of State Socialism.

  • @qwertypoiu4321 Where did your hear state socialism in this video?

  • @regvarney

What do you mean "old faud"? In what way is he a fraud?

  • @jacobscamell Claiming to speak for working class people when everyone knows(Except you) he was born into a very rich family and went to public school.

  • @regvarney So? The fact he was born into a rich family, and went into private school, means nothing. What does mean something, is what he developed his political beliefs into. His beliefs emphasize helping the poorest in society - he never claimed he was working-class himself, so I don't know what you're on about.

  • @EasyPeasy21 And how exactly has he helped them?Seems to like the sound of his own voice too much.Just another poser

  • @regvarney You're an imbecile.

  • @nilbud Imbecile? Is that it? What"s the matter?Tired are you after @graemeoliver ran rings around you?

  • @regvarney he fought to get rid of his peerage.

  • @vidscroungerxD Yes,because he was so embarrassed at being a toff, makes it SO hard to lecture people from council estates.Anyway, only middle class Guardian/Independent twats take him seriously!

  • @regvarney The fact is we need people like Benn, because the working class rarely stands up for itself.

  • @TheDensley7dickhead What a ridiculous thing to say.You really have proved yourself to be middle class now haven"t you?

  • @regvarney If you have any pride at all, you would be supportive of Benn. Rather than Jim Davidson.

  • @TheDensley7 Benn is a hell of a lot funnier than Davidson.Unintentionally of course.

  • @regvarney An old fraud who fought the Nazis during the second world war! Have you served your country? If you have, you should respect Tony Benn.

  • @shahideurope He"s a commie that"s why he fought them.If it had been the Russians trying to invade us he would of put out a red carpet for them!

  • @regvarney No he's not a communist. He is a member of the UK Labour party and has been a democrat all his life. He served as a Cabinet minister in two Labour Governments. He never supported the Soviet Union. He is a very respected figure in the United Kingdom and much loved and respected on all sides including the British right-wing.

  • @shahideurope Really? He never had a bad word to say about USSR,Cuba etc.He has always been obsessed with unilateral nuclear surrender along with the Soviet funded CND.He wants British withdrawal from Northern Ireland and sucks up to IRA/Sinn Fein at every available opportunity. The only people that respect him are middle class lefties.Everyone else thinks the man is a joke.

  • @regvarney No you are wrong. He is respected. He is entitled to his views about nuclear disarmament and Northern Ireland, in a democracy I respect the right of everyone to peaceably hold their views. The man served his country as an RAF fighter pilot and as a politician. I admit stupid and uneducated peope think he is a joke but you cannot please everyone.

  • @shahideurope If he is such an honourable man with high socialist principals why does he live in a £10 million mansion in Holland Park?Because he is a product of the upper classes and thinks he can lecture working class people. He is entitled to his political views but they are ALWAYS against the interests of the British people. He is just another upper class self loather. And why do you slag off working class people who are "stupid and uneducated" Tarquin? We can"t all go to university.

  • @regvarney Tony Benn supports free higher education for all including working class people? Do you agree with that? He is certainly an honourable man, as I've said a war veteran. I don't know where he lives or how much his house is worth, I don't care. I don't care about his background, he is still entitled to his views. I never said he had high socialist principles only that I thought he was a good man, entitled to his views and worthy of your respect.

  • @shahideurope Tony Benn supports high taxes and working class people subsidising spoilt middle class students.Working class people shouldn"t pay tuition fees.I do know where he lives.Google "Tony Benn"s hair shirt" and read the piece from the Telegraph. He is not worthy of my respect.

  • @regvarney Yeah okay I get it. You don't agree with Tony Benn. I respect every civilised person even if I disagree with their views that includes David Cameron, William Hague etc. You do not. I get it. Debate concluded.

  • @shahideurope Don"t really see how anyone can defend Viscount Stansgate ,er I mean Phoney Benn after reading that expose in the Torygraph about him. It"s right that you have thrown in the towel.

  • @regvarney fuck off you square, what have you ever done,

  • @dan11009 Square?Fucking hell, grandad, how old are you?I guess I"m just not hip and with it like trendy twats like you who have a video about the word "fuck".Or is that all YOU"VE ever done?

  • @regvarney I agree that Tony Benn is a product of his world, but I still like the fact that this kind of voice still exists - I disagree with many of his opinions, but we still need this sort of person shouting in the corner - like we still need Ann Widdicombe shouting in her corner. If we agreed with everyone it would be because we live in a totalitarian state and had to agree (or else!). I currently live in China, and these people make me proud to be British. The Chinese don't have this.

  • This dude is so chill, I love it!!

  • is he even smoking that pipe?

  • 03:04 Cohen's struggling to hold back a laugh there :) Benn rocks!

  • first hand shake ever seen from mr.g

  • YEAAA Tony Benn! You should have been prime minister

  • Benn's a good guy!

  • hang with me bitchis ! hahahahahah

  • No banging fists - handshake. Mr. Cohen's sign of respect.

  • The big joke about Ali G was that most of the people he interviewed would bend over backwards and make fools of themselves to be seen to be down with the kids, or became very patronising as if they think that all young people are fucking idiots. Tony Benn didn't do either thing - he challenged him and spoke to him like a grown-up. Maximum respeckt for da Benn!

  • Benn is a fantasist, if he thinks people won't have children to get benefits or stay at home because they can't be bothered he doesn't live in the real world. His mind opperates in the 80s.

  • @tull06 Im quite convinced that he's talking about people in general, of course there are people who want to live like that, but its not what your average person aspires to.

  • @tull06 Are you saying everyone in the 80's was a shining pillar of light? I think Benn is simply saying that the vast majority of people are not essentially lazy and feckless arseholes. I agree; most people want to work, be happy and make other people happy.

  • @Symbioticism I would say a large percentage of people in contemporary Britain are like how you described.

  • "maXimum respect"

  • Tony Benn owned you Cohen , called you a Dog and said you'd be shot like one. The score...... socialism 1 , smart arsed public school boy comedian NIL.

    Respek!

  • hahah i love how benn plays his own game at 3:00. even brought a smile out of sascha

  • @sweetuth99 no doubt

  • Tony Benn, a honest gentleman with a true line of thought, everyone is now greedy, money, money. money.

When the miners went on strike they did it for a living wage. They got no benefits, the Twatcher government seized union funds and tried to implicate the miners in to unlawfull prosecutions. When the truth is spoken everyone ignores it, when the cuntsertatives talks everyone listens. Torys rob from the poor and needy then give the proffits to the greedy.

  • @gotobedandtickler Labour did the same. Democracy doesn't exist now - we are at the complete mercy of the banks and corporations.

  • @bobokk your right democracy doesnt exist now as regards the labour party its the majority of the peoples fault they went for thatchers brand of capitialism over the labour partys brand of socialism which allowed the labour party to get hijacked by liberal conservatives

  • @oppressednation The whole system is a joke. You won't find a single person of any generation who thinks that things are better now than in the past. Young people now can't buy a house until they're middle-aged and that's assuming they don't laid off. Work harder for longer and for less. Having children is now morally questionable.

  • @CIMALord: Socialist (not communist) countries have better life standards than equivalent free market countries and they're good places to invest too. Just compare socialist China to free market Haiti, or the Nederlands or Finland with the violent and unequal USA. Welfare States recovered faster after the Crisis than England or the USA, whose free market caused the crisis in the first place. It’s free market extremists who need to get real, not socialists.

  • @juanpefernandez Maybe in those countries it works due to a difference in culture, under Labour governments, im thinking in the 70s, we saw the true nature of the UK unskilled workforce. I am proud of being English but there is a large population of lazy, envious, feckless people in here who, when given socialism, went on strike at any oppurtuniy, refused to accept modernisation of industry and, when they actually produced something, it was utter garbage (British Leyland cars for example).

  • As well as being a 'good-sport', Tony Benn is a true gentleman and an intellectual giant who cares deeply about democracy and justice FOR EVERYONE.

He has devoted his entire life to the service of others and is also a war hero who risked his life in the fight against fascism.

Unfortunately, ignorant, bigoted, intellectual amoeba like 'theguvnorjimmy' choose to use that hard won freedom to spew forth the kind of puerile ordure that passes for humour in their moronic circles.

  • Benn is naive, people do chuck out kids in order to get more benefit. He needs to get real and take a look at his own ridiculous ideals.

  • i think ali had a bit of respect for this guy

  • "Someone is going to shoot you one day 'couse you threat him like an animal"

He's got a point there i think.. if u keep threating me like a dog i'm going to bite you.

  • It's Tony Benn who's not living in the real world...

  • @Veerwhil Very true, the left-wing vermin kinda put me off the comedy. Our country is truly fuc*ked with this socialist bollocks.

  • @Veerwhil And what is the real world? Is it the world as you see it? Mr Benn Is just putting over a point of view. What is wrong with that.

  • the weird thing is Frank Bruno did actually run for MP of Brentwood a few years after this was filmed!

  • Tony Benn destroyed Ali G.

David Cameron would never have been interviewed by Ali G,

  • sittin on me batty and watch vanessa LOL

  • of all the ali g interviews i have seen, he is the only who was able to really put ali g in place and gets his point across.

  • tony ben should stay away from smoking that pipe cause he is at the brink of enphusyma

  • isn't tony benn the only person who actually challenged ali g at all on his show.

all the politcians trying to be popular with the "yoof" and Tony Benn challenges Ali and is probably the most popular of politcians amongst the young.

my evidence: went to a young peoples political conference and Benn was by far the most popular there he got a massive standing ovation.

  • fucks sake its hmor wtf is wrong with all this nonsense, its sad 2 think that the morons slating Ali 'views' the fact that u searched for him should be proof enough that he taking the piss

  • ...Jiggy with Mr Biggy...aaiiiiiiiii

  • Ali G(Sacha Baron Cohen) is a damn zionist clown.

  • @knowthetruth1492

his humor is brilliant and as far clowns go, this one has a cambridge degree and over a billion dollars.

  • I love Tony Benn, one of the few good politicians out there... but this is the first time I have seen him made a fool of... and Ali G talking sense and reality.

  • @LeClassics I don't think Benn was made a fool of at all. Cohen purposely made the Ali G character the butt of the jokes because he knew the deadly serious (and righteous) response to this OTT character would be funny in itself - just like 3:03 when Cohen broke character. If he really wanted to make a fool of Benn you would know all about it. Besides, Cohen has a socialist-leaning history himself, so he no doubt agreed with every word Tony said.

  • Tony benn legend!!!

  • This is just pure entertainment.

  • tony benn is pimpin it with that pipe i want one

  • I remember watching this & thinking how out of touch Tony was.

  • Please please read Tony Benn's diaries as they allow you to learn about the man himself. He really is so compassionate and caring and it shines through in his diaries. i don't even agree with all his political ideals but as an individual he is a great man!!!!!

  • this actually goes beyond benn playing along and attacking ali g. it works as an attack on cohen himself, in that cohen's smarmy, mindless LOL IRONY attitude towards benn's beliefs is almost as damaging as if ali g were a real person and genuinely harboring those views

  • I reckon Tony Benn sussed out Ali G was taking the piss straight away, and good on him for playing along! Definately the best person ali g ever interviewed

  • I've just read the second volume of his diaries and he didn't suss it out but got a letter from Cohen later saying he was the only one who tried to argue seriously with Ali G and asked him to be in his film about getting elected to Parliament.
