When I'm sitting down and typing words for my future New York Times Bestselling Novel Series, Logan Nichols, I imagine this song playing in the background when Logan and his freinds are walking up steep hills,.camping, and getting on trains. My mom told me about this banf, Low, and they're pretty cool.
I discovered this song like 2 years ago thanks to the film 'Killshot' - pretty good choice for those firsts scenes - and my first thought was how could I missed this song in the 90's.... because as somebody already mention it really fit the 90's spirit/sound...and to my surprise it is from 2005! Good to know that there is still some music in the new century that's worth it some attention!
I don't know if this has anything to do with the song, it's just the way I feel about it:
I think the monkey in this song and the monkey in Peter Gabriel's "Shock the monkey" are the same thing: we think we are sophisticated humans, but we have these stupid un-evolved animal habits and fears. Gabriel is saying "we need to work on getting rid of this thing", Low is saying "that's it, we're getting rid of the little bastard even if it kills us."
I love low was blown away with the song from the movie which reminded me I had the cd which had been a chance discovery a year earlier low are one of those bands that reappear at the unexpected
i love the video.... and if they played it live it would ROCK! i love the monkey puppet, the close ups, the snow, the electricity, the monkey on my back. and FYI theyre not all mormons.
this is like the cult's "she sells sanctuary" that I like it more if I don't watch the video,,, it's embarrassing to watch,,, should've been them in the back of the blue cadillac and Mickey Rourke driving in silence,,, the entire video
@frongwadder i agree, i felt embarrassed when they started with the weird "john mayer" faces, and the girl...typical "broken, mtv orphan" face. song's good as hell though.
I don't think being Mormon has anything to do with this, this is just a cool band. I heard this song at the intro of "killshot" and looked these guys up. Impressive.
@tygonejet1 Haha...same here. I loved that movie and I just remember thinking...damn it what was that song!! I have to hear it again. So I looked it up and I thank that movie for introducing me to this song and band.
@danthropomorph ya back in the good days when people could sing about their feeling and thought without being called emo or having someone else write it for them
lol, I found about this song from the movie killshot as well. The movie was okay but whoever recommended adding this song at the beginning is a genius because it definitely describes what the movie is about, particularly towards the end with all the characters involved (the husband, wife, richie, and blackbird). I was a little upset with the end because it reminded me way too much of the character marv from sin city and that whole monologue seemed scripted for micky.
someone else nailed it by saying it's a monkey on somebodies back. That's what the whole movie is about really. The husband and wife have the burden of being attacked by thugs and they will not stop until they both die.
The character blackbird has a monkey on his back as well, so to speak, with richie nix. He gets robed at gunpoint and starts to like him, but at the end he sees what richie is really like and as the song implies, "the money dies tonight"
Same for me I discovered Low watching that film. I realize now that I was so focused on the Britpop and UK Indie scene of the late 80s and 90s that I completely missed out the very cool US bands that were starting the slowcore genre at the time.
Yes thanks to Killshot... off all movies, to turn me on to something like this. This is such an amazing song, touching me at such a profound level... So few have yet discovered. This might be longest fuse mainstream hit to grace the charts in years... I can't stop playing this.

Wow, this sucks! What happened to Low? I used to listen to them when they first hit the scene, they had such a unique sound, and were such innovators...
Perfect, and the way that the aliens show up at the end, better than perfect. I was playing cards with friends and I could hear this song playing on the TV in the background and it immediately caught my attention. Wonderful stuff. What is the rest of their stuff like?
Cool band & great music. I guess I should buy a couple of albums.
