I just start to learn ASL recently, am hard of hearing. I can sign some simple words now. I joined a great deaf daing site, ----Deafornot dot c om----, and met some good deaf/HOH friends over there. They help me to learn ASL.

hahaha. love this movie- really funny, but true. by the way- to some people who are complaining about the English structure- this is not English! HELLO! it's a completely different language! students- i'm really happy you are interested in learning ASL but you can't always rely on English to understand. Most deaf people can barely even write English, so how do you expect them to sign in English? again, ASL is a completely different language. :)

The whole thing makes sense. She is not translating the song word for word, but rather relating the lyrics to the Deaf experience. It was an excellent job, Rosa Lee, as always. :).

But yeah... those are definitely the correct signs for what she was trying to express.

No I get what she is doing...Im just saying some of it didnt make sense to me because I didnt know those signs...My professors and Deaf friends have told me that different places have different signs...Even places as close as 2-3 cities away...So that may be why...Im not insulting anybody here...So please dont get offended...

No worries, I'm definitely not offended. I wasn't trying to insult you, I was just saying that if you're looking for specific words or for English structure, you won't be able to follow this song. There are different signs for different regions... that's true. I know Deaf people from all over North America, though, and most of the signs used here are common. If you continue with the language, you'll pick up the meaning of what Rosa is saying. :).

no.. it was talking about deaf growing up being isolated and forced to learn to speak.. possibly how she grew up, i do not know her story, but it is the story of most deaf

I have watched the entertaining video many times because I really love it. What you signed short is about music song itself that made its content very clear and simple. I don't like other people who signed word by word or in a long way in ASL. It was hard for me to understand and follow what the music was about. You know what the audience would enjoy if the music is short and has a main point.
