if your just starting out i suppose they can't be the worst even though there not a professionally made skateboard brand. You have to start somewhere though. Personally i wouldn't recommend a Darkstar. The two i had broke easily. I would recommend a Real or Anti-Hero which are actually both part of the same distribution company called "Deluxe"

roflmao i broke my arm on my mongoose, ill have to make a vid of my mongoose board and sho u it, its pretty crappy looking, also, is it good to spraypaint a board? cuzz i was thinkin bout doin that, and i was thinkin bout pullin my board out and skatin, since its getting warmer.. and where was this thing in ohio? i live in ohio =-)
