@TheMetsfan1962 Good? You want motor cyclists to die? What is wrong with you?!?!?! Just because a few have cut you off or done something bad to you while on a motorcycle, doesn't mean all motorcycles are bad. I ride a motorcycle, car drivers cut me off all the time, pull out in front of me, never see me. Does this mean all car drivers are bad people? No, just some. Same with cyclists.
It looked like the guy turning left DID look first to me, but he wasn't looking that far down the road. He wasn't expecting some idiot to do something like that. Hope they survived.
he turns his head but come on ... anyone with common sense can predict how fast he is going by fast from how fast hes moving closer ... he has a light on and yet the guy just creeps in ... his own fault imo he toke the risk just like in a car you see someone close you gun it for the turn
I'll assume that most comments are from people who have never or don't often ride in a large group? The rider going fast was more than likely a corner marshal (I've done it many times) and it is common practice for the corner marshal to move up as fast as they can to the front to get to the next corner to let other riders in the group know where to turn, the rider that broke off made a huge mistake, in the briefing prior to the ride people are told to use hand signals to warn others of intention
@MrBUSABAZZ regargless of what rules marshals have set themselves(theres no way of knowing if the guy is even a marshall) the rules and law of the road must still be observed. the guy overtaking was travelling considerably faster than the general flow of traffic and is at fault for this collision. caution must be excercised when performing any overtaking maneuver and it seems there was no caution at all here.
When in traffic, you must ASSUME someone will make that turn - because eventually, THEY WILL!
Ask yourself - what is the safest relative speed I can travel. Just because the lane is open, doesn't mean it will be safe to clock on by at 100km/h relative speed. IT IS NOT SAFE!
I had an accident 3 weeks ago, where i was with a yamaha r6 and i was going down a road when a Nissan patrol vtc came from an off road and i couldnt stop the bike as my speed was 100miles and i crashed. if i hadnt had the helmet on i would have died as my head hit the side road but thank god i only had scratches all over my body, but i was in a shock for a few days. pheew
i had an accident just like this, was coming down a straight away when some1 pulled out in front of me coming from an off road like you see on the right. the guy had been drinking earlier to, but was never accounted for in court because they say the accident would have happened wether he was drinking or not. i just cant believe that fucking bullshit
I cant tell whos honking their horn? Either way a ridiculous way to ruin prime machinery.. but if the man turning honked for so long then the guy who smacked him is WAY in the wrong.
Well, they both are at fault. The guy didn't check his mirrors BUT the other ass hole was speeding. There's no doubt about that, so I say the majority of the fault is the guy who was speeding. I hope that accident taught that ass hole a lesson.
If you look closely the rider himself didn't seem to be hit - rather the rear of his bike. I'm not saying that he was okay, but I suspect that this looks worse than it actually turned out to be.
@Russ0000 got to agree...take fucken horns off all fuckin vehicles and use that extra spit second to react rather than have a bitch fit blowing the horn on the road when something occurs..
I never go past a group of bikers that fast. I wait probably almost a minute before I even try to pass, and if I do I go slowly while keeping an eye on the bikers so they know I am passing.
The guy riding fast to the outside was probably an "outrider". His job is do exactly what he was doing, He blocks intersections so the rest of the pack can get through. then he hauls ass to the next intersection. The f*cking moron pulling off to pose the for the damn camera never bothered to look behind him. he couldn't tear his eyes away from the f*cking camera long enough to pay attention to the road.
The guy riding fast to the outside was probably an "outrider". The fucking moron pulling off to pose the for the damn camera never bothered to look behind him. he couldn't tear his eyes away from the fucking camera long enough to pay attention to the road.
To all those saying he didn't look before turning, watch the video again. This time with your eyes open. How odd that folk with observational skills clearly superior to that of the rider in the video, managed to miss it.
This is why I hate riding in groups. I don't know why those jackasses slowed down in the first place. Maybe for the cameraman, which is irresponsible.
The guy passing may not even have been riding with the group and wanted to pass these honk-happy-half-tards. He had a clear dotted line and the left turner didn't even signal or check.
@ryanpiuma i agree. it hurts me when any biker gets injured. but we have to be alert for the unforseen. i've put this video on as a warning of what can happen not by your fault but others. lets be safe out there.
@ryanpiuma Still though, if I were passing a group of riders that I'm not riding with, I wouldn't blow past at 50 mph faster than the group is moving. Doing so wouldn't give me (or other rider) enough time to react. If the passing bike had only been doing 10 mph faster than the group, would this accident have been as severe? No. He probably could have even stopped in time. If the bike were instead an asshole in a car on a cell phone blasting past the group at 60, then who would you squids blame?
@ryanpiuma Also, I'm sure according to the police report, the guy passing at an irresponsible speed is to blame. The law states that you're to maintain proper control of your vehicle should you need to stop or avoid collision. If I'm driving 40 in an ice storm, and someone turns into my lane and I borad side him, it's MY fault for not being in control of my vehicle. Even if the other driver should have known I couldn't stop due to conditions, it's MY responsibility to be able to stop my car.
@cjszip Agreed that the passer was carrying too much speed and I understand the law about being responsible for what's in front of you, but if that was car going by, the biker turning off would've likely been killed and because he didn't think that someone might be passing him on a passing lane.
Your point on the speed is taken, but don't call me a squid when, given your profile age, I've literally been riding since you were in diapers.
Who is to blame you ask. Both the dumbass doing 60 past a line of bikes and the dude making a left hand turn never checks his mirror or turns his head to look!!!
@dobypaw well you cant blame him for not looking back, i mean the other dude cut into the oncoming lane, i dont ever look bak if im making a left cuz i dont expect anyone to be so damn retarded that they are gonna hit me goiing into an oncoming lane
@dobypaw If you look at 0.05 he does look,at that point he cant see the other rider over taking and within 2 seconds both riders are taken out and maybe even a camera man!! But he should of looked again and the twat over taking is just dumb!!
@dobypaw "dude" who did make the left turn did turn his head to look for incoming traffic, the guy on the left lane was clearly going to fast in this type of area, let alone with the amount of bikes there were.
