  • This man deserves an award made from multiple, melted Emmys

  • No doubt he'll be assassinated for speaking the truth.

  • HELP THE POTATOE

  • this video remains the best thing ever. and it ever shall.

  • The sad thing is this is one of the truest Onion videos. It is boring, exactly why no one pays attention to how agriculture is getting screwed (both farmers and consumers.) Most commodities are price fixed to avoid overproduction but all that does is make it impossible for the small farms to compete. The meat industry would collapse if not for subsidies. It is harder to get a peanut farmer's license than a pot grower's license. But all of this is boring, so why care?

  • @NucularRobit 100% true

  • this is how i feel when i watch CNN. wtf? what are these old white guys talking about?

  • so did something like this happen at a press conference before and their making fun of that?

  • We need more brave men like Bill Daley, with the guts it takes to stand up, and finally blow the lid off the US Department of Agriculture 's corrupt practice of utilizing a indexed counter-cyclical pricing structure policy for Idaho's output productive, small to medium yield, dry ground, labor intensive tuber vegetables!

Sure, those savage Neo-Agro bastards will crucify him, but Bill Daley, is true hero.

  • Washington still in gridlock in regards to the definition of a bushel and what price export index of onions should be. I personally believe an onion tax for importing states is unconstitutional.

  • I love this video! such passion and conviction:)

  • Dig them southern Alberta potatoes

  • Great passion for something no one else understands or cares about.

  • @Entropy137 but hes not going to stand on the side lines and watch the disturctive tuber pollisicies eat away at us like neon agerians ,,, i say here here go man 8 /

  • One joke for three minutes, and it didn't even have a punchline.

    Okay.

  • It's a Michael Douglas parody from the movie Traffic!

  • Do I smell an Emmy?

  • TAKE THE POWER BACK

  • LOL @ 1:37

  • Can someone explain the jargon to us little guys?

  • @Entropy137

    He's pissed over potato prices.

  • Great shit <3 TheOnion

  • It's a measure meant to starve out the poor.

  • Brave person that man is!!!!

    lol

  • That brave brave man.

  • it's funny how no one ever pays attention in all these meeting theonion makes, lol

  • It's about time someone stood up to USDA's neo-agrarian counter-cyclical tuber pricing policies!

  • What does that even mean?

  • @ToxicOdiousOne the counter ciprecal pricing indext is not a fair marganal differential to equilised the marketing reform

  • he hates monsanto

  • "I'm not going to stand on the sidelines and watch destructive tuber polices eat away at us pre-harvest nematode infestation!"

    Bravo Onion! ROFLMAO

  • Or ... "like a pre-harvest nematode infestation!" LOL

  • I love potatoes. I do.

  • Southern Alberta eh? I wish I knew what he was refering too, lol

  • F*ck you, southern Alberta. Especially Pincher Creek. F*ck Pincher Creek. lol

  • Ya have to be a policy wonk to love this. I've been watching it for a year. It's my favorite youtube vid. except for the stirring, "I dreamed a dream in time gone byyyeeee....I dreamed that love was a potatooooeeee...I dreamed that nematode infestation would diiieeee...and tuber policy would fit into the neo-agrarian agenda"....now THAT was a video.

  • @Hardwoodxfloors making fun of popular matters like healthcare is SO mainstream , potatoes FTW!!

  • Wow someones got some balls in this country. p.s. I know this is a joke.

  • Fuck yeah, take a stand against government price controls! Even if its on the onion...

  • you know what they should do is put a real speach of Bush about Iraq and then put the Onion NN sign under it :P

  • i got bored

  • Bullsh*t!...it's bullsh*t!!

    L...M...A...O!

  • Bill Daley is my hero, but I'm afraid that he's entirely too sensitive for the position of USDA spokesman.

For some reason, it seems like he's been coerced into becoming a shill for one of the most evil organizations in the world.

He may be entirely wrong about counter-cyclical pricing policies, but I admire his courage and tenacity.

He will be remembered in my bedside prayers tonight.

  • You are SO completely right, what a fool I've been!

Nevermore good sir, nevermore shall I attempt to make a sarcastic comment.

    You have my eternal pledge.

  • your kind of right

  • He reminded me of Jimmy Stewart in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.

  • If we had more people like Bill Daley, the World would be a much much better place

  • I'm glad someone finally talks about this. We have been oppressed too long on this topic

  • I appreciate Mr. Daley's courage, but really, counter-cyclical pricing policies just work. His Southern Alberta example is an obvious strawman argument.

  • God bless 'em. I'm glad someone finally had the balls to come out and say it.

And the Alberta example was a quintessential illustration of the romanticized entrepreneurial ideals imposed on northern-territory medium to low output tuber producers by counter-cyclical pricing mechanisms. There, I said it.

  • i for one, commend this man for his bravery and honesty. it takes a big man to stand up for his beliefs on interstate tuber pricing. what's this salty stuff leaking from my eyes?

  • This is good attacking but not very funny.

  • Give that man a fucking Oscar.

  • it's funny how serious he sounds.

  • What a brave, brave man. Those counter-cyclical pricing policies will get tuber growers EVERY TIME!

  • *slowly stands up and starts clapping*

  • *Also stands and claps, with increasing rate*

  • Just say NO to the prevaricators. Bill Daley has.

  • lmfao

  • Today I am not speaking to you as a youtuber. Don't you see? This is not merely a youtube comment. This is a message from another human being! I am a real person, in a real world, watching a video on a computer. Maybe after all this time on the internet you've forgotten what it is like to be a human being, but I remember, I'll always remember...

  • We can't let this Neo-Youtubean policy take away our right to shitty-quality videos and long rants by those Ismokeweed420's out there about things no one gives a shit about!

I demand that we make a stand against "necessary" advertising and "entrepreneurial" investment in internet culture!!!!!!1!!!1!!11!!!!

Fags and retards, now is the time.... to FIGHT!!!! FTW!!!!

  • Godspeed Mr. Deputy Assistant. Godspeed.

  • this is hilarious!!! If you don't get it than I'm sorry. Watch some more C-SPAN and see how these politicians talk.

  • Someone explain to me how this is funny. The Onion is usually funny. Why am I not laughing?

  • I think it's not the funniest one either.. but maybe the point is that he gets all passionate and moralistic about something so utterly unimportant..? I don't know..

  • It's not so much that it's unimportant, but he states an issue that almost no one understands and that's what makes it funny.

  • it just went way over your head didnt it

  • this guy pwns!

  • Wow! Great custom! Great Costumes! And i dislike the KKK.

Took a while to understand the TOOL bonus track.

    Go on!!!

    Something good to listen too!!!

  • HE REMINDS ME OF ADAM WEST

  • HAHAHAHAHA

  • Is this guy for real? Is this a parody? If it's not then i think there's actually someone out there with a conscience.

  • If it says "The Onion" it's a parody.

  • Are you for real?

  • Lol, what? That man loves his potatoes, too bad no one but him seems to understand why.

  • HAHAHAHAA! I can't believe this one has so few hits. Their loss!

  • Guess the title killed it. Not enough Pro Patato You Tubers out there :(

  • senators game? southern alberta? is the Onion a canadain program that mocks us news? or is it an american program that parodys us news?

  • Its located in NY.

  • invented in Wisconmsin bitch! they still have a base here in milwaukee

  • God these people kill me!!! LOL!

  • Give that guy an Oscar. Brilliant.

  • If only this was real with real issues.

    911 was an inside job

    Stop the new world order

  • Obama is going to give the power to the UN then there goes the world!

  • giving power to the UN might be a good thing

  • yeah right there goes I freedom, I bet he is going to bring the draft back, Then the UN is going to kill off all religions

  • Michael Crichton isn't dead!

  • Yes. Because the best way to get rich is to destroy a major global economic center.

    Oh wait...

  • It's very funny because he is using lots of jargon and is out of touch with everyone else, yet also very passionate about it!

  • This guy seems a lot like Ralph Nader aka AWESOME

  • You know I'm not sure if this is a rare moment of civic responsibility or a brilliant piece of satire (who, really, could make this stuff up?) but that was hilarious!

  • why can't this really happen?

  • LOL!!!

  • The joke people is that it doesnt make sense at all...

  • could somebody plz explain what he's saying about the potatos

  • holy shit

  • Together...

    we can do anything!

  • Ha - I love it!

  • First Onion that didnt make me laugh

  • It's because he didn't use those small words that you are so used to.

  • in other words, you dont get it

  • mabey I don't explain it

  • you should drive through idaho sometime

  • i snickered but it wasn't terribly funny, if rolled at this you went overboard

  • Maybe some of those who use Linux operating system in their PCs or macs, or macOS in mac, seem like that to others?

  • seem like what again?

  • HAHAHA thats so funny lol

for a second there i thought he was going to announce the elimination of the U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement & Investigations branch... that branch of the USDA has been losing money for almost 30 years.

  • It's a skit.

  • Dude its a fucking comedy news network!

  • LOL when he says "Bullshit!"

  • the conservative counter cyclical tuber policy referendum is the out fashioned tuber policy of old. The Bush administration's tuber policy is a national shame that have cost the United States its international respect.

  • Bushenomics

  • Do you think he sleeps with potatoes.

    I love you Mr Potatoe.

  • Such truthfulness! Bill Daley 2012!

  • GO Potato Men of Justice!!!

  • I always had a feeling that counter-cyclical potato payments would be the ruin of us all. Market loans are the way to go.

  • i can't tell if that was sarcasm or real..

cause we're talking about a plant here....

  • One should believe that it is our birthright to have free access to potatoes. I don't want to come off as a socialist, but when in comes to high quality, un-modified potato's it should be, as the defense of America, taken care of by the government. Yes! I am coming out of the closet!

    FREE POTATOES FOR ALL!

  • Thirty cents?! How do the politicians think consumers will increase their potato consumption if they do not bail out key agricultural corporations!? The economy is falling but the cause is not focused on.

Thanks Jesus we have great politicians like Bill Daley, speaking out in free media like onion-span2.

  • More citizens need to see this important video.

    I salute you Sir.

  • Well, thank God this has finally broken out into the open in language even a citydweller can understand.

  • Damn Neo-Agrarians and their counter-cyclical pricing schemes.

  • why?

  • what are you guys talking about? potato pricing should be a top priority for all americans! talk to your regional representative today!

free the potato market, free the mind.

    :D jk.

  • Yes. The agricultural fascist policies of days past has been a catastrophe for the economy of the US. Just see what it has done to the stock market. If nothing is done soon there will surely be a crack soon.

Why cant Americans see this? Hopefully the Obama-Biden ticket will do serious reform on the agricultural structure of the nation while not taking heat to the huge corporate special interest groups, such as the infamous chips conglomerates and natural oil groups.

  • well spoken.

  • sooo realistic!

  • hummmmm hahahahah i love how he is passionate about potatoes

  • Men.... thats good acting! I almost believe his that passionate about potatoes. His like the citizen kane of potatoes.

  • Ha, America' legislative powers are so convoluted that it makes it funny to see something satirically made solemn.

  • in his defense it makes sense...i say good for him

  • is this a real story. lmfao hilarious.

  • yes, this is indeed a bleak reality of American policy. Soon, potatoes in the US will be more expensive then oil (per gallon).

  • am i the only who thinks this is funny?

    potatos taken seriuosly =)

  • 'am i the only who thinks this is funny?'

    no way man....I'm chokin...

haven't laughed like this since my Amsterdam trip.

  • is "neo-agrarian" a real word? and "destructive tuber policies"...? where do they come up with this brilliant shit! i love the onion!

  • "like a nematode infestion" LOL

This would be so awesome if it were real.

  • Neo-agrarian

  • amazing!!! i wish they were all this real

  • I totally believed this until I saw "TheOnion" in the youtube info section. I guess I'll never know if I would have watched the whole thing and believed it. But man, by the end I wanted to salute him.

  • lol that was pretty brutal

  • love that end bit too! I'M LOOKIN' AT YOU!!!!!

  • back n forth bBYBABY

  • Man, wow.

  • They'll take away my referendum for mid-to-low potato producers with sufficient stuctural support to continue the 0.35% annual growth median WHEN THEY PRY IT OUT OF MY COLD DEAD HANDS!!!

  • Lol...love it!

  • "The neo-agrarian game" Hahahaha!

    Fucking genius.

Beware of big potato! The NWO of farm subsidies!

  • I LOVE THE ONION.

  • Things were awful in Southern Alberta back when that happened.

  • Together, they will regulate the pricing on potatoes !

  • w..t...f

  • im not speaking to you today as the northwest assistant deputy to the undersecretary of agricultural growth and policy affairs division, I am speaking to you today as a goddam human being!

  • A goddamn human being!...hilarious!!

  • this is good example what us the people really want from your real politicians. not the bogus talk that we can hardly understand. we need real people not those robots that run the government now.

  • "I stood at this very podium twelve months ago and told you with a straight face that a counter-cyclical pricing policy would benefit output productive tuber operations every bit as much as commodity groups or other trade players. Bullshit! It was bullshit!"

    O.O uhh....

  • I was moved to tears!!

  • It's great how they just have the normal background chatter and people randomly walking around while this guy rants

    I love Onionspan

  • I don't think that the mid to low output producers will be able to take advantage of the mitigating neo-agrarian policies for the simple reason that the counterciclical policies encourage the development of small scale operations scratch my balls only if the market volatility is just right and the appropriate allocation of recources is maintained to prevent the formation of informal price regulating monopolies that threaten to lower the potato output during the dry season.

  • LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • mans got balls, career killer right there glad he had a pair

  • dude.....this is fake

  • no shit

  • WE've all benn playing the "Neo Agrarians" game so long....

    Hilarious.

  • I'm speaking to you as a Goddamned human being!... priceless!!!

  • p.s. what is democracy? lol onionspan at its best.

  • I don't really care too much about potatoes, but what i do care about is that government is controlled by people who represent a democracy and this is an immaculate example of democracy at its best. This man has an immense amount of courage, immense and i respect him deeply. Who cares if the subject he's talking about is of no interest to a lot of us, it clearly matters to him and a select few farmers and thats all that counts. This man is perhaps one of the most ballsy politicians in the whouse

  • You do know this is satire, right?

Please tell me you know that..

  • This comment is funnier than the whole video!
