My sister and her boyfriend listen to the crappyest teenager music I have ever heard; so while they're listening to that... stuff :/... I go into my room, door shut, lights off, and listen to this genius!
Hey, I read your bio on your website, and I'm a bassoonist working on a bachelor of music composition degree, so it was really cool to hear that you started on such an interesting instrument and moved to an even more interesting one. Do you still play bassoon at all? Anyway, you're an inspiration to musicians for bringing awareness to the theremin, I dig your videos and hope you continue making great music.
very impressive song, you truly do not see enough theremin around, and its so beautiful in the right hands there should be more, continue the good work my friend, i look forward to more beautiful music
I liked how you filmed yourself blurred in the background as a shadowy figure it goes well with the song- you have a great thing going with the theremin Randy
Thank you. This is one of my favorite pieces and songs, and it's great hearing it on such a unique instrument that few people have truly excellent control of. Excellent job.
Really amazing. The tone is almost trombone-like, and the mood you create is truly wonderful. It is so easy for the Theremin to overpower and distract from the artistry of a piece with it's unique sound, but you have tamed it beautifully.
good but the theremin should be louder, we hear the piano too much... i play cello, and this piece is originally written for cello. I found this work of music fantastic, and you play it well it in ryhtm. I would like to know more about theremin, though. it looks like a fascinating instrument and i had never heard about it. i get really little from the way it works. anyway, it's amazing
Very, VERY well done. You had me listening to this one for a good hour. Just...Its...I can't put it into words how well these were done. Of course the song itself helps, but steady hands, a lot of skill, heart and soul help to create these wonderful masterpieces you've come up with. You inspire me still... The scene I have here;
My mountain view, wonderfully done music (this one) in the background, it just gets me thinking...
That was beautiful. I used to sing this song myself and was curious to see what you'd make out of it. I did wonder, at first, why you didn't play it one octave higher...but you changed at one point; personally I preferred the sound from that point onwards. I sang this a bit faster myself - I tried out different tempos and found a faster one suited me - but the slower tempo suits the sound of theremin quite well.
Very very f****** good! I just bought a theremin and i don't know how to tune my theremin (standard theremin moog). I put the pitch controller to 2 o'clock but i am not sure if this is the right position. Can you please help me?
Randy--the Takeuchi piano track as you use it has a much quicker tempo than Masami's original. With what software did you alter it? (I would expect untoward artifacts with such a severe change in tempo, but it sounds quite clean.) --ALSO: What do you think of concocting an updated version of this song for the ecstasy age: APRE UN _RAVE_?
Eliot, great question. I've invested in some really great audio software. Digidesign X-Form is what i use most of the time. It's capable of some serious time and pitch stretching. I also use Ableton Live which also has great time compression and expansion algorithms. I recorded Apres Un Reve again on Sunday, but it's audio only, no video.
I've made a theremin from a kit with help of a teacher at my school, it works backwards, so the futher you take your hand away the Higher the pitch, sounds like white noise and the volume plate effectivly changes the pitch aswell, backwards...
I'm getting a Proper one from Moog for my Birthday, so it's ok!
But the kits are a waste of money in my opinion, but let me know what happens
I'm looking to getting started in the theremin world, but the Moog one is too expensive. I've been recommended the Kees Enkelaar, but I don't know where I can buy it. Do you have any ideas? Please not I live in the United Kingdom. Thanks!
I was going for a mysterious, dreamy look to the video. Also, it was a cheap effect using my old iSight camera and a program called iGlasses that changes the camera to macro focus mode. And lastly, I didn't want people to have to look at the junk in my apartment so I angled the camera toward the ceiling for nicer backdrop. Tada!
I can see where you are coming from with the zelda comment, hehe sounds like someone singing to epona by the great fairy! This is the second video i've seen with a theremin as the instrument the first being Zelda theme :P
Very nice! I hope I eventually get as good as you. This encourages me to practice, practice, practice...because right now, I pretty much suck! Thanks for yet another great vid!

so beautifull! I think your style fit Japanese classic, too. "Kojo no Tsuki" or "Hamabeno Uta".

Because of its ability to bend pitches, I'm really surprised that no one's studied Indian classical music on the theremin. Peace.

It's probably hard enough to play western music right. But i've thought of that as well.
