  • Good job but from about 1:18 to about 1:40 the tempo is just too fast, ruining a very important piece of the passage. Not enough rehearsal, methinks.

  • @tripsadelica

Agreed. Much of the original impact in that section is lost.

  • This music was perfect for the revealing of the refit Enterprise and her launch.

  • Absolutely magical!

  • "Thank you, Mr. Scott."

  • GREAT GREAT GREAT

  • A truly splendid performance of one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. Thanks so much for sharing!

  • Wow. Horns and trumpet rushing within the first 25 seconds was the first thing I noticed, and then the director drags the oboe (along with the rest of the orchestra) at 53 seconds. Maybe I'm just too familiar with the original as conducted by Jerry Goldsmith for the release of the soundtrack. It pales in comparison to the original. Thanks for posting, though. It's cool to hear it performed by a live orchestra.

  • This is so cool. Thanks for the upload.

  • wow this theme reminds me of the vikings film theme for some reason

  • this song sometimes gets my eyes going when I get into the mood of it

  • Excellent orchestra. Great performance.

  • JERRY RULES SUPREME!

  • Nothing else has so ingeniously captured the imagination.

  • That was absolutely magical!

  • This song brings a tear to my eye.

  • glad I still have my dvd of the music from this movie.

  • Jerry Goldsmith is an absolute legend Star Trek wouldn't be the same without him

  • ♥♥♥

  • Who'se the idiot that edited this?? He starts by focusing on the strings as the horns start their theme, then as the violin kicks in, he cuts to the horns and stays on them.

  • I'm going to use this video clip at my next team meeting. Everyone here played a small role in what I heard a great masterpiece from Jerry Goldsmith...symbolic to true teamwork!

  • Hope you do not mind if i post this on our facebook starbase sight, it is for fans of star trek and all sci fi and fantasy stuff :)

  • The movie was releaed in 1979... I know because the reboot was symbolic of the 30-year anniversary of Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

  • You don't have to be a Star Trek fan to appreciate a masterpiece like this from Jerry Goldsmith.

  • Very nice rendition, i thought a little quick, only by a tiny bit. But still a lovely lovely piece of music, well done to all. God, i miss Goldsmith's skill for spinning a tune!

  • I love how graceful the refitted Constitution class looks during the flyover sequence as Kirk and Scotty are in the shuttlepod.

  • @IDF1987 Me too.

  • Agree with SergioTheComposer - too fast (well, timing quite erratic, really). This theme, as Mr. Goldsmith points out on the Motion Picture "extras" DVD is a love theme.

  • Amazing! very very beautiful.

Lindo! Isso é musica de verdade.

  • Good job, but just a note: Star Trek: The Motion Picture came out in 1979, not 78.

  • @blairlikesvoyager Talk to Varese Sarabande, not me :-P

  • @blairlikesvoyager < Actually, it was 1980. They finished production in late 78.

  • @DBro65 HEY JACKASS STAR TREK THE MOTION PICTURE WAS RELEASED DEC. 1979!!! LOOK IT UP....

  • @DBro65 Sorry, but it was a Christmas, 1979 release. I was there.

  • @blairlikesvoyager < Not sure if the first post went through. The movie was released in 1980 and production wrapped up in late 1978.

  • @DBro65

Production was ongoing. They were still putting the music into the movie just days before release. Things were so tight that they were literally having to take the prints as they were made, boxing them and sending them out immediately. Robert Wise brought the print with him to the premiere himself from LA to the theater in Washington DC!

  • @blairlikesvoyager Ah yes... Friday December 7th, 1979... A date that will live in Infamy in My Mind...

I took my Older Brother's GF to see the first show of this movie because nobody else would go with me.

We Loved It. We hit it off together... Sci-Fi Nerds to the end.

She also let me do a few other.., ummm..., things too...

    (which he doesn't know about... ;-) )

  • @blairlikesvoyager the song was written in 1978

  • Are there any more vids of this group performing Trek Music? God, they are so good!

  • Великая музыка великого композитора!

  • Excelente interpretacion, buenisima musica ... para una gran serie de ciencia ficccion. Muchas gracias.

  • Too damn fast! Slow it down and enjoy the prefect Goldsmith music!

  • @SergioTheComposer It's not too fast. It's very close to the original, as even a quick glance at the running time shows. Relax and enjoy the wonderful performance of the perfect Goldsmith music!

  • Gorgeous performance!

  • Damn that is a good performance. 3:12 i always get goosebumps hearing that. So powerful, so moving..these folks did a remarkable job performing this. I thought i was listening to the soundtrack recording instead of them playing it at first it was was good. Wow. Wish there were more videos of these folks playing more Trek soundtracks.

  • This sounds very, very good; probably the best live performance I have ever heard of this particular melody/musical piece.

You can say many things about Star Trek, but all the films and tv-series has had some of the most beautifull themes of their times; especially when those themes were written by Jerry Goldsmith.

  • One of the best pieces of music ever composed. Sums up the beauty and wonder of mankind perfectly.

  • Not a flawless performance but still very well done. Just goes to show just how epic Goldsmith's Star Trek theme has become that's its still being performed 30 years on.

  • Best ever theme for Star Trek.

  • i thought id never see this played live. THANKS! big fav.

  • Very nicely done! I have to agree with Beamos12 that the tempo is rushed compared to the original recording however, musically, the orchestra is excellent. From the five minute mark onwards this version is quite excellent.

  • very nice. but it felt a little rushed comming around 1:33

  • rest in peace, Jerry Goldsmith.

  • nothing will beat this theme, it should have been used for the enterprise unveil in the 2009 movie.

  • @DigitalLonestarX4600 ANY original Star Trek music would have been appreciated!

  • Best star trek soundtrack of them all i think.

  • Outstanding! Damn that was perfect.

  • @DMaustrap This performance was a bit rushed. The official OST version of this cue is 5'59" . Other than that the overal sound of this cue is ESSENTIALLY the same as the OST version. I bet the performers just watched that part of the film over and over as 'practice' for this performance. That sequence and the 'final warp jump' scene from the movie are among the FINEST VFX shots *EVER* captured on film!

  • fantastic!

  • breathtaking. All hail the Goldsmith

  • This is gorgeous !! Wonderful posting !

  • THEY sound much better than that CITY OF CRAP PRAGUE !!!!

  • @UFOSPACE1999 City of Prague orchestra has got much much better in recent years. Their re-recording of Conan The Barbarian is stunning.

  • @MovieMusic37 what is the name of this DVD?

  • @UFOSPACE1999 Seemed a little bit too fast.

  • @FishfilmInc And the drums at the end sounded a bit weak.

  • @UFOSPACE1999 I never really liked the City of Prague's Albums I only like the real Orchestra, the only CD I Have from them is Indiana Jones
