@geicowithdagheko1 you most likely want to assign each string a finger i.e. 1st string pinky, 2nd string ring finger, and 3rd string middle finger, all the rest are played with the pick. it might be hard at first but it will help in the long run

Actually I disagree, I think this guy has taken the time to break guitar playing into bite size chunks for aspiring guitar players to get started. So many of these guys end up losing their audience by showing off rather than actually decoding what they are doing. Keep up the good work dude!

whenever i hold it the 'normal' way (thumb and index) it feels wrong and my playing messes up for it

is there any way for me to still learn hybrid picking with just my ring and pinky?

I had the same exact problem as u.....

The best thing I can tell you is to go back and 're-learn' how to pick with just your thumb and index.

It's tough but eventually you start to feel comfortable with it.
