  • OMG!! i'm 1m57 and my weight is 46 kg

  • @MeAndrea05 how many 57yr olds say 'OMG'??

  • @tozzaa hahah! i think is 157..not that he/she's 57. :)

  • Also, their muscles are not the heavy, bulky type but the slender, high endurance and high flexibility ones. Compare a dancer and a non-dancer of the same height and weight - you'd be surprised at the differences.

  • As a dancer, she has perfect weight. Every kilo puts additional strain on the legs, joints, back. Also, to all those who believe that they can detect a eating disorder just by LOOKING at a person: Please mind your own business - and look around your own friends and families. You'd be surprised how many have eating disorders - without appearing emacerated. The difference between 'normal' people (i. e. the ones who do not exercise intensely any sport) and dancers is the percentage of body fat.

  • All these comments about over weight ballerinas and about dance being a sport is really pissing me off. Ballet is Dance, sure its a sport. But first and for most its a dance. It's something that takes passion and hard work no matter your weight. I take ballet and I'm on the chunky side :/ I'm not extremely over weight. But Im not a skinny twig ethier. Its just passion.

    Not a war.

  • seriously... what i would give to be training like that. and this makes it look like her life is so damn awful. if she hates it, she should quit so that someone who wants it so bad can do it! urgh. :/

  • O M G :o

    1m70 = 44g ?

  • I don't know how she does that!! i mean i dance ballet since about 10 years now and i am underweighted..i'm 1.68 and about 47/48 kilos and sometimes I start feeling kinda weak and i just HAVE to eat.. I mean how should you be able to dance so much (and burn so many calories) if you don't eat!!! anyways..hope she's fine because she's soooo sooo talented..no question!!!

  • The ballet industry has created unrealistic ideals. Dancers suffer because of it. I had to quit ballet (my passion) because of such ideals, I was severely underweight and dying. I chose life over ballet, something, I feel, should not have had to be an altimatum.

  • People need to realize that she is probably a bit underweight because she has taken ballet her whole life. Ballet is a very intense sport that burns fat and calories extremely fast. I have been taking ballet my whole life. I am a healthy weight according to my doctor but I look pretty thin. I would have a hard time gaining weight if I wanted to because of the amount of dance I do.

She is probably in the same situation. Personally, don't think she is anorexic but she could gain a bit.

  • @xjxcouturexobsessed I'm sorry. That's ridiculous. That girl is clearly very sick. I hope that you're being honest with yourself about the industry you've chosen and how damaging it can be. 80 pounds is never okay.

  • @xjxcouturexobsessed She's no "a BIT" underweight. Her BMI is 15, which means "severe thinnes". The normal range is between 18.50 and 24.99 ...

  • Yes, it's true- some girls are naturally VERY thin...but at that height to weigh that less...considering that muscels weigh a lot more than fat...she is WAY to thin...she would be 4 points under a '"normal" BMI...one or two might be tolerable...but everything under that just doesn't feel and look healthy to me. By the way I'm 5'2'' and weigh 116 and I don't consider myself being fat.

  • that means she wants to be 5'7 and weigh 97 lb... anyway i love oksana <3 beautiful dancer

  • According to the book "Diet for Dancers" the ideal weight for a ballet dancer is 48kg and the ideal height is between 163 and 169cm or something like that. I'm 48kg, but I'm only 160cm, and I don't actually take ballet at the moment.

  • where do you know that her weight is about 44kg???

    Really???

  • @hotti1801 She says, in Russian, that she wants to be 170 centimeters tall (about 5'7") and weight 44kilo

  • omg ballet isn't the you must weigh 44 kg :o they never told me I must :o

  • It is a crime to slaughter the art of ballet with skeletons. If you feed the audience bones I fear that in ,when people that remember healthy dancers stop watching, they will only pay to see bones twirling it circles. gracefully gruesome.

  • Can somebody tell what are the songs in this video?

  • this is a well done documentary, but it's disgusting. for crying out loud, that one girl wanted to be 5' 5'' and weigh 97 pounds! i love ballet too, but i could never do this. all these girls want to be is beautiful, but it is becoming the opposite.

  • They make this look like a horror film. This girl chose this life... and that is just the way it is.

  • I love the assumption that this girl is dreaming of being free. Maybe she's dreaming of cheetos or not dreaming at all. Bleh.

  • they are soo thin...

  • i wish i could dance like that. i had started ballet but then we had to quit cuz the classes were too expensive =(

    but this is beautiful

  • FYI, there have been very few occurrences of anorexia or bulimia in the Vaganova School (one every few years) and the teachers are not forcing these kids to starve themselves, only to watch what they eat. It is the kid's decisions to harm their bodies, but they can kick you out if you have no energy for class (which I would assume happen if you ate nothing) and will notice whether you gain or lose weight.

  • Haunting. Very beautiful.

  • In dance, your body is your instrument. Think about it, in REALITY, most likely, you won't get very far if you attend ballet school in Russia, Paris, ect. It's just a fact, in an audition they want the skinny, yet strong and graceful body. I know it IS sad, but true. You must maintain your instrument.

  • 170cm and 44kg? omgz D:

  • oh, this is terrible! They are so unhappy.

  • Cual es la cancion?

  • i have an eating disorder, and seeing this makes me feel even fatter!!!!! all i want to do is become a ballerina .

    im 5ft 4inch and weigh 97pounds :(

  • @balletshops I know what you mean, i have an eating disorder also, i have for 3 years. This makes me feel so fat, i am in ballet and have been for a few months and it is so triggering in there...

  • @balletshops

I'm shorter than you and at least 20 pounds heavier than you.

You're not fat, and this girl is scary thin.

    Please take care of yourself.

  • wow, i'm 5'5 and weigh about 99 pounds, not far off

  • @balletshops I've been dancing for seven years on and off and I am 5' 3" and I weigh 115 lbs. Not eating enough can destroy any chance you have at a future in ballet. It is better to weigh more and be healthy than to weigh less and run the risk of dying. Besides, if you are seriously dancing you won't become overweight.

  • I am a ballerina, I'm 14 and have been dancing for 10 years. I weigh 150 pounds, and am 5 ft, 6 inches but that is muscles from the push ups we do in Ballet because we have three male dancers in my class.

  • im 12 and 92 pounds! holy shit! im 4ft 10inches!!!

  • Thaliaperfect

I am 12 and 90 pounds as well.

    But I am 5ft 2inches.

I am skinny and tall for my age.

  • whats the averagefor 12 then? cos i JUST turned 13 and i am 5'5, but some of girls at my school are a few inches taller than me, lol my school has all students then

  • i do ballet and i feel really fat now that i've watched this video!

  • One day go to Russia and see what they eat. Their food is a lot less processed, and almost entirely locally made. These girls *are* too skinny, because of the pressure to conform to a ballerina stereotype, but American girls *are* too fat, because of bad diet and not enough exercise.

  • i'm not american.......

  • 170cm is 5ft7 and 44kg is 97 lbs

  • Is this fact and fiction or a pure factual story?

  • how much do u weight

  • I agree some of the girls are naturally thin, but sometimes they'll still be required to lose weight (maybe) but keep in mind some of these girls aren't naturally thin and damage their bodies to achieve a certain weight.

  • where can i buy this dvd?

  • no its because shes dancing so much and not eating enough. the dancing keeps you thin so if you eat enough you will still be thin. there are some ppl who are naturally thin but from what ive seen shes eating the minimum sufficent amount of food to function...and dancing 24/7

  • Where can one purchase this dvd?? It isn't available on amazon

  • How do we know she's Anoerxic? were we there when David was filming? no we weren't, some dancer are just naturally thin, IE they have a fast Metabolism. Also she even said how much dancing she does everyday. I hate how everyone cries Anoerxic when she's probably not.

  • poor girl.she seems so unhappy the ballet dancers that are from russia are very good but i am not sure if they should pay this price.

  • i just did the conversion 170 cm, 44 kg is 5'7" and 97 lbs. yikes...

  • iam not 170cm yet and i weigh 10kg more......

  • with 170 cm and 44 kg you have a BMI of 15%, which means you're anorexic

  • no that means that your under wieght! i dont understand the sterotype that your skinny therefore you have an eating disorder. I have been under wieght all of my life and i have fast food several times a week, but i also exercise for at least 3 hours everyday. With the amount of training that these girls are doing it wouldn't take much to stay that thin

  • This is russian ballet. They are very serious about it, and aim for perfection, on their terms. But it isn't that way all over the world. You can see ballerinas with thick, muscular thighs, if you watch other ballet clips.

  • Comment removed

  • you're completely missing the point of this film.

  • that is insane. i am 170 cm, and 44 kg. exactly scarry! lol =)

  • Agreed, the dance itself is joy. Being obsessive about measurements and dimensions and the satisfaction of your mentors is NOT the joy. Look at African and Brazilian dance...the pure joy of socially meaningful dance....do NOT have to be thin. Western ballet is a strange cultural construction that has little to do with being human, or joyful.

  • I'm 172 cm and 49 kg?what do you think......???I'm too fat for a ballerina?:-s

  • I weigh 56kg, Does that mean i am too fat to be a ballerina??

  • you no what you can be ANY weight it doesnt matter i guess this is just an extreamly intennse school; for them it is the only option to weigh 44kg; so you keep dancing and live your dream dont let anyone influence you :) x

  • ya i am the same lol

  • 170 cm= 66.9 inches= 5 feet 7 inches tall

    44 kg= 96.8 lbs.

Anyone who believes that's a healthy weight should go see a psychiatrist.

  • It's not healthy, it's Ballet. Weighing that much would be fine for a dancer.

  • Till you lose all your muscle strength because you're starving yourself to attain a subjective aesthetic "perfection" and fall and break or tear something.

  • First of all i do not support weighing that much (sorry for the confusion). I am at a perfectly healthy weight for my body and a beautiful ballet dancer. Ballet is Ballet and if you want a job especially in Russia, they have certain body expectations and those expectations have to be met. SIze does matter, being over wheight and a pointe dancer is actually dangerous because more wheight is distrubted on that litle tiny platform. I am not saying an overweight person can't dance or enjoy Ballet.

  • In all honesty being overweight and attempting to dance can hurt you more than people realize. Ballet is a high impact SPORT, even dancers that are of healthy weight injure themselves because of the pure magnitude of strain. I do not agree with the dancers that are unhealthy (i.e. have eating disorders) but it is important for ballet dancers to maintain their body appearance, just as a musician would maintain his instrument.

  • You are right ! But most of the people don't know this...

  • Exactly, i hate that everyone who does Ballet is all of a sudden under the "oh you do ballet, so you must be Anoerxic" bit, some girls are just naturally thin.

  • it is good to be thin as a ballerina but not that thin. you also need to have to fat because you use a lot of it dancing all the time ...you need the strength and iron..so yes its good to be healthy and thin but not to that extent at all. you will maintain your appearance by dancing because its the same as working out.

  • that is true,

if they are too thin they will loose strength,

if you look at dancers like darcey bussell, tamara rojo and margot fonteyn there is nothing skinny about them they are very strong, musclyand athletic looking. why cant some dancers understand that it's more about muscle and strength than being stick thin.

  • @Uta420 I dont get it you say that dancers that are healthy injure themselves sometime but yet you dont agree with unhealthy dancer, is there an inbetween or something. athletes dont look like they are dieing of hunger. you can mantain your body and be a good ballet dance and avoid injuring yourself at a normal healthy and slim weight. i took ballet for a few years and although it wasnt professional it was still serious and my ballet teacher always adviced us to stay healthy at a natural weight.

  • @Uta420 What you say is very true :) But 44kg isn't a healthy weight even for a ballet dancer. At that weight she barely has enough muscle mass.

  • @Uta420 Nobody speaks about being OVERWEIGHT--but dance companies consider normal weight to be "overweight". It is healthy bones and strong muscles that can handle the impact of landings and pounding on hard surface, not unnaturally thing, depleted, anorexic bodies that are considered beautiful by fake societal standards that promote MISOGYNY (hatred and objectification of women). Notice it is female dancers who are forced to be anorexic not males: males develop normal musclarity and weight

  • @Uta420 so true! I'm not a dancer but I've experienced really bad knee pain from training hard while being overweight. Now that I am more fit it is much better and finally healing even though I'm working ten times harder.

  • Precisely Sangfroidjen.

Not healthy at all, mentally, physically, or emotionally.

  • you can still be like 70 kgs a be a great dancer no probs weighting that much is not gonna help

  • Ballet perfection that is completely terrifying.

  • How can one have any muscles to dance with if one's BMI is 15. One can't. It won't feel good to dance anymore. But fuck the healthy ways if you are close to achieving perfection, huh? That is sick.

  • lord!

    5'5" and 97 pounds!

that is a BMI of about 15.

way too skinny, she will not mature properly and have brittle bones because she does not have enough calcium in her diet.

  • Comment removed

  • I want to be that skinny

  • omg 44kg thats the weight of a child....not someone who is 170cm....this almost makes me want to cry

  • "A beautifull tragedy" - very well chosen title !

  • She's already too thin, if she had 170 cm and 44 kg she would be almost dying with some sort of disease provenient from the anorexia!

Even though I think she dances really well!

It is NOT necessary for her to loose weight. I even think that she would look more natural and beautiful with more 5 or 10 kg!

  • the music, where can I find a download for this song. It's so beautiful

  • beautiful...tragedy

  • This is pitiful I have been taking ballet for 5 years now and i really enjoy it but if that was me i think i would hate ballet but i love it so much !

  • I've taken ballet in NC since I was 2 and I've never seen anything like this! To me ballet is a beautiful art. But it seems like to some people it's an unhealthy obsession. That to me isn't real ballet though. At least, not my kind.

And to be honest, I really believe that an audience would much prefer the ballerinas to look healthy. I mean, when they don't have a little meat on their bones it goes from beautiful to unnatural...

  • I don't really think they look UNhealthy, per se...

  • @daisyice123 Thats true. But look at them when they become professionals they are not all as thin as in this video. These girls are not fully grown.Ya alot of them are ill and its really sad.But they dont ask them to be ill...You know anorexia is not just about looking thin its a diseas and the girlks who fall into this do it for control mainly.Ballet world certainly has not help them, but they certainly dont want you to be ill either.

  • @daisyice123 Thats what an audience wants. They want ethereal. It's unfortunate, but I don't think they would like to see normal sized bodies, if they did, it would take a while to get used to and the other thing is the thinner you get the longer your lines get. Audiences love technique. :/

  • @daisyice123 completely agree. Audiences, especially mature audiences, find it uncomfortable and awkward to watch a woman, man, girl, or boy dance when it is clear that they are starving themselves for their art. It becomes a very sick thing to pay to see. A funding of a disorder.

  • la danse classique c'est super difficile mais à perm la prof est hystérique

  • oui, je suis d'accord, les profs ne doit pas etre strict!!!

  • c'est vrai, ballet devrait etre beau ET amusant

  • i agree this is sometimes very difficult to watch, but the method of teaching and living at these ballet schools clearly provails- i hear that the young girl (Oksana) is now with the Kirov :)

They are all beautiful dancers, and im sure they have all got somewhere in the ballet world :)

  • ** its just a shame that these are the lengths we need to be able to go to to acheive a ballet dream :(

  • 170cm and only 44 kg ???...oh my god...

  • it's okay to be thin if you have small and light bones, cause 44kg at 170 is probably what i'll be in a bout a year (If i gain enough weight)

  • wow. beautiful dancing.

i cant understand how everyone else who commented on this video is making a big deal about watching weight. everyone who commented and said nasty things should look in the mirror and realize that this girl is more conscious about weight than you. so, i suggest you lose that for her.

  • i am size 8 and i weigh 54 kg. Its called muscle hunni, did you know they weigh more than fat? If you wanted to be 44 kg, then you would lose the muscle you already have and lose your periods. and i consider myself a good dancer. curves rule, baby!

  • The Russian standard for female classical dancers under 17 is height (in cm) -122.

and they are not going to die of starvation because most of them have very light bones. It is checked during entering exams.

  • this is not safe look at how thin she is

soon she'll stop having a menstrual cycle if she hasn't already

  • Sometimes it really bothers me that dancers think that they have to be so thin to be good. In America, ballerina come in all shapes and sizes. Some are tall with large muscle mass and others are just not gonna get any thicker. Some dancers are short and stocky built. It doesn't matter as long as they dance well. At my school, you are accepted no matter what, we had a dancer once who was almost 6ft. tall and weighed about 190lbs. It's all about who you are! And do not starve yourself!!

  • yeah exactly!...where i dance (australia) in ballet we are all different shapes..im really skinny except i have a huuuge butt! lol, and some of my friends are short and stocky and jsome are just what you would call nice and normal. we can dance beautifully and still have curves

  • HOW IN HEAVENS NAME CAN SHE EXPECT TO WEIGH 44KG AND EXPECT TO DANCE WELL?!!!! dancers are supposed to be one of he most healthy people-i would know -eat healthy ,rest alot and take vitamins like crazy. when you look like a concentration camp victim, you can't appeal to people!!! as for her height shorter people are more desirable in ballet-med height and lean body mass!! sheesh, tall and sickly slim is for modeling!!!!!!

  • i think u have a point. i wanted to be a ballerina when i was younger but my mother said i was too overweight

  • um if you are going to dance you need protein and nutrition. you need enerygy to dance so they should be eating proplorly

  • Beautiful film, but arent ballerinas supposed to be healthy? I mean I heard if you're anorexic you get kicked out of the dance school you're at...

  • but then the standard of being healthy for them is being anorexic for non-ballerinas...

  • these girls are lucky to go to this #1 school. i wish i ad this opportunity. If i were there it doesn't matter how hard that was , i would bite my lip and do my best

  • I really cant imagine anything more beautiful and anything more tragic than a Russian ballerina...Im so guilty of being in love with Russian ballet and appreciating how hard they work to be the best. I feel guilty because of what they go through to become the object of my love.

  • I really wish I had the opportunity to go to a ballet school. I love it, dance is my life but I think I am too old to start now

  • You're never too old to start dancing.

  • neva give up, i know a woman who started at 18 and went on to teach ballet at a top school! its really worth it :) good luck, hope you start!

  • I am 22 years old and have never done ballet but I love ballet and what I have taught myself and I want to learn so much right now but havn't found the place to study yet. Any ideas where a new beginning adult can be taken seriously at wanting to learn? thanks

  • Most dancing schools accept adult beginners-yes it can be a little intimidating to be with advanced youngsters however it will pass, they say the best place to look for a school is in the phonebook.I am sending you a video with more info -hope it helps.

  • Ballet is suppose to be something u do happily not something u do like a robot..I mean 170 cm with 44kg...what is that??

  • impossible is nothing, isn't it?

  • i understand that this girl is going through a really tough situation, her school looks so harsh, but the middle and end part of this video make ballet, which is so beautiful and graceful, look terrifying...

  • I agree she does make ballet look terrifying, but I love ballet and it's my life.

  • People, had they been underweight/anorexic, they wouldn't have the energy to dance.

You're just jelous of their figures, that's why you're criticising :P

  • That's way too thin. That's scary thin.

    yo need help.

  • This music is scary lol

  • was her goal to gain or loose weight?

  • Ballet look so beatiful <3

  • she saying that she wants to be 5 and a half feet and 97 pounds. thats crazy. i kno for dancing u have to be skinny. but this is jsut like weighing bones and organs. its crazy and really really sad

  • I am 5'6 1/2", and I'm 94 pounds. I dance every day of the week, and I live in America, so in reality it doesn't seem that bad.

  • yeah but still.. your body does need that small amount of fat to help your bones and support parts of your body. but u still shouldnt have that much fat on your body, too

  • how much do you have to weigh in ballet not trying to be mean please reply soon thank you and how tall. go girls

  • No taller then 5"7, or not alot of the companes will wnat them.

And no more than 110 lbs.

I mean they get as thin as 80 to 85lbs. depends their height.

My sister is 5''4 and she weights 90lbs. Only for ballet.

  • thats not entirely true. which dancers in proffesional companies have you seen that weigh 80 pounds?

  • I am 5" and I weigh 105 pounds. But it is all muscle

    Xoch

  • Check the FULL version of this movie ON MY ACCOUNT!!!

  • *Great video but see "The Room" by TommY Wiseau!AWESOME

**DISCOVER "The Room MOVIE" by Tommy Wiseau! It's FUN!**

  • i think some of these girls don't have a choice. i think they might have liked doing ballet but they might not have wanted this.

  • yeh,ur rite.

  • I am 46 kg and 165 cm talls. Im totally normal I think... ;)

  • you guys are skinny what do you guys do to stay that way?

  • its terrible...i feel so bad for them.and it is unhealthy to be tht thin.tht girl said she wanted boobs, they arnt getting ANY they have been dancing for sooo long nothing is gonna grow ther. And not eating the rite amount of fruit n veggies.and you are not fat ballet81895

  • Whoever loves dancing can understand me. They suffer but it's their choice. They love ballet. It is the meaning of their life. Ballet makes them happy.

    The beauty requires commitment...

  • Can someone tell me if I am on the heavy side?

    5 foot, 95 pounds

I'm still growing, and I'm pretty muscular in my legs.

I'm really self-concious about my weight.

  • ARE U SERIOUS !!!!!!!!! ummmmm I am 107 lbs and 5 1/2 feet!!! If im not fat ur not fat!!!!!! I have mega muscle though... considering the fact i have been a dancer for so long!!!!

  • does anyone else find the treatment of these girls absolutely appalling? it's unhealthy for them. and do these girls really want to dance themselves to the brink of exhaustion, maybe even death? i am a dancer, 5'2, and 98 pounds. i eat an unbelievable amount of food for my size, yet i stay thin because of my naturally high metabolism. i love to dance, and i am not put under nearly as much pressure as these poor girls...

  • is this an actual ballet school???-the teacher is so mean just horrible to them i feel so sorry 4 them.what country is this school in?

  • ya its real. its in russia

  • my goodness, they make ballet look like torture, with all the sad music. it's not that bad.

  • but unfortunately for them it is like torture...watch the next video and they are all crying, its so sad.

  • Yes but these girls are at a school to become prima ballerinas in the Russian Ballet that is why it is so strict.

  • pointing ur toes are really hard i tried it at home and ended up getting a cramp.

  • you're not a dancer... are you

  • i am a ballet dancer and i'm only 5'2" and weight 105lbs and im pretty good, i might not be perfect at it but i have good skills. i think being a great ballet dancer is not about being tall and skinny or doing perfect moves with perfect posture is about your passion for dancing and loving every single step and move you make.

  • i agree 100% :)

  • 170 cm and 44 kgs? Come on!

  • I know!!! Im 152cms and 45kgs!!

But ballet really does keep off the weight if you do enough, but I eat too much crap hahaha!

  • kmarie42 is correct... ballerina is a title to be earned... any one can say they are ballet dancers... you must work hard to become a ballerina... then prima ballerina... then prima ballerina assoluta... of which there has only ever been two
