  • I've always loved this song (along with anything else by Gary P. or JJW).

There's a lot to love about Texas. Things I HATE about Texas: the weather (it's frackin' HOT!), and we have to hide our guns, because the soccer moms in Dallas might faint if we had open carry.

  • Way too many Saturday nights in Del Rio, we used to keep the slips we got from customs when we crossed, I must have had hundreds of them. Wowsa!

  • was so lucky to work in San Antonio in the early 90's and become acquainted with Gary's music. Lucky enough to see him several times at very very small venues. wonderful songwriter. thanks for posting. he does always seem to be having so much fun.

  • Got to appreciate how much fun he's having. Very enjoyable.

  • Got to appreciate how much fun he's having. Very enjoyable.

  • If anybody remembers cecil......I wish he would show up so we could remind hims that his damn yankees lost the ALCS to the TEXAS RANGERS. Don't EVEN Mess With Texas!

  • Who is playing the big hollow body Gibson and did he used to play with Ray Hubbard?

  • @jhnstn1 Bobby Rambo. They all played together, but he played most notably with JJW.

  • i am the bass player from texas legend joe king carrasco,we jamed with gary last night it was a really cool concert, dawn here in puerto vallarta mexico,he played this song and people got crazy!

  • Thank Sam Houston TEXANS finally pushed CeciltheCockSmoker off the first page of comments

  • this could become a month long conversation between Texans, what we like about the Lone Star Republic

  • I've been reading about Gary P. He is a great humanitarian, and has won lots of awards for his contributions to Country Music, and for his allegiance to the Great State of Texas. One thing for SURE, he's a great song writer, and singer. But, also a very intelligent man, who could have done anything in the WORLD that he wanted. But, to the luck of his fans, he chose to entertain us. His picuture could be found under the word 'nice' in the dictionary. He's on FACEBOOK!

    Rollin' Strong!

  • And I've had my share of free Shiner- go tour the Shiner brewery in Shiner, TX- free beer in teh hospitality room

  • some people say Bob Dylan can't sing. Gary P, has written some great "texas Music" though I think he's really from OK.I'll just say though, if you don't like it, go somewhere else. Have you ever even been to Texas (God's country) As for Shiner beer- I've been drinking it for 20+ years- Yeah, I pay way too much for it now, But you know what, it worth it

  • I am stuck in Texas (God's forsaken country), this place sucks!! Why do I say that? Because I have actually been outside of this place.

He has written some good songs and that's where he should leave it.

  • @JAL1639 in the words of Ray Wiley Hubbard:

    SCREW YOU, WE'RE FROM TEXAS

  • @JAL1639 hell, i have been out of texas too, and every place i went too, sucked ass!!!!!!!

  • @JAL1639 the good thing about this state is you can leave the same way you came in. If you don't like it then get the **** out. Let me guess, you're *stuck* here because you're making some money and you boss sent you down. If it sucks so bad then haul your ass.

  • I think hes good. He has a more talking style like Willie. But I think hes a great songwriter.

  • Texas should be a county.

  • Texas has 254 counties, the most of any state.

  • Hicks

  • it's a cold lone star in my hand...can't get a Real Lone Star from San Antonio any more....sad

  • So whatever happened to Lone Star Beer?

  • no longer hecho in San Antonio, but the bottle in my hand says "Ft. Worth" which leads me to believe they are made by the Miller Brewing Company. I had heard they were bought by Pabst Blue Ribbon before that and it was being made at the Pearl Brewery in San Antone until a few years back . (I think the Pearl facility burned down) " a cold Miller in your hand " just doesn't have tthe same ring to it!

  • miller has bought lone star and pabst, Shiner is bad ass!

  • well i guess a cold Shiner would have to do.

  • Shinner was pretty inexpensive back in the 60's and 70's -then all the Frat Boys ,Yuppies and maricons discovered it and they raised the prices!!

My mottto is the only beer better than cheap beer is free beer!

  • first off shiner has only one "N" (shiner) and dont hate on frats, also I drink keystone alot and lonestar light some( alot more than shiner) so i agree with you.

  • it looks like Johnny Gimble on the fiddle, one of Bob Wills former "Playboys" from way back in the Tulsa days!

  • You got it!

  • It in fact is Johnny Gimble on fiddle. I am reasonably sure that is Johnny singing during the intro of that show too.

  • Is that bob wills' on the fiddle?

  • Gary P. Nunn is a Texas icon. If you aren't a native, you may or may not understand. As far as "Astro" is concerned, sounds like envy to me. Having lived most of my life in Texas (and missing every moment that WASN'T spent there!), there is much more to Texas than steers (does he even know what one is????? LOL) and queers (a slang name used by ignorant people) as shown by our long, rich and colorful history. If you know not of what you speak, be silent!

  • one of the great Austin Pickers. and you can tell Astro has never been to Texas. I'm a damn yankee from Chicago but fell in love with the Hill Country and pretty much the rest of the place.

  • one of the best Texas song writers.

  • dont be jealous because your not from here!!

  • @AstroSpace18 and since you got the word ASTRO in your nick and I don't see no horns "houston, we've got another gay asstronaut."
