HAHAAHa I love the little short bus thats just speed demoning it through traffic cutting infront of big trucks with a load of special needs ppl and no giving a fuck
I was there a few days ago and that sign that says all trucks over 12' 2" use exit 27, well I took that damn exit because I didn't know that I could keep going. I ended up in downtown Brooklynn trying to get back to the BQE. That was one of the most stressful experiences of my freakin' life. I was driving a 2008 Freightliner Century Class with a 53' dry van.
@xXxXxRedEyexXxXx i will be going this route this week, and i talked to a bunch of drivers, all of them say that sign is bullshit, and as i watched this vid i say a tractor trailor go under neath no problem. i wonder what the actual height is..
@HotShotVQ35 It is actually the height on shoulder. Stay in far left lane and you will be fine. When going in the other direction it is the same way but there are no signs saying to exit. I hate New York!!!! The people there are rude at least they were in Brooklynn and Queens.
@xXxXxRedEyexXxXx thanks for the info, i went thru the middle lane and had no problem! traffic is so bad on the bqe, but i think its worse on the cross bronx!
I don't know anything about trucking, except I see some nice trucks once in a while and they look awesome, but I spend my time mostly in Finland. It's rare to get to come across with a nice truck like in this vid. Anyway, I enjoyed watching the vid and that awesome american music, I'd love to listen that kind of music when driving to work, but there is like not a single radio station in Finland which would play something like that. Is that your own mix playing or some radio station?
I always favor the hammer lane for this stretch of road. That is, unless I'm using Atlantic Ave. to get across Brooklyn. This has got to be the worst stretch of Interstate in the USA.
one day driving through the dirty apple don't make you a city driver. i did it for 25 years. you aint done nothin' 'til you've driven a set of wiggle wagons down from maybrook ny to west street in manhattan by way of the major deegan, triboro, BQE, manhattan bridge and across canal street on a summer saturday afternoon and then go back by way of 14th street to 1st avenue to the bronx and then up the deegan.
i always get a kick out of rookie truck drivers bragging about driving peterbilts.
I enjoyed the video just wanted to correct your geography with your rivers .Enjoyed your video very much as I drove for many years. From Brooklyn to Milligan Street to Weed Patch Road and Hway # 58 to Medford Oregon. Before I became an owner operator I drove this road for years. Delivering to Greco Ready Mix, my bosses yard at 39street. I left trucking in 2001. I use to have a W900 with a flat top walkin with a 48ft 102 spread axle.I miss trucking talking on that echo box chrome dripping lights
I'm usually pretty nervous driving on the highways in NYC. Now I'm a lot more scared to think that those tractor trailer drivers who are always trying to run me over are making videos on their cell phones...
I've driven in a car next to trucks under the Brooklyn Promenade (and stood overhead and watched trucks pass underneath); I'm always amazed how little clearance there is...
I can see my old house at :31 ! I used to hate having to hear trucks using their brakes on the descent down from the Gowanus into the subterranean part of the BQE all night long, but that's part of life in a big city...
Unless New York has different rules from other states (I've only been truckin' in the western states), trucks aren't generally allowed in that left lane...
In NYC anything goes. Generally, the hammer lane on this stretch means less overall lane changes. Besides, where would the cops pull you over TO? This is a major bottleneck for North-South traffic of the entire East Coast and has no real shoulder.
The cops aren't stupid - they want traffic moving.
Okay OKAY, 1 thing I cant figure out...... if bridges around there R 12'0 an 12'2, how tha HELL R All U GEtting under them if a semi's average height is 13'6????
@bg27651 In NY they measure to the center of the hub. So if a sign says it's 12'6'' it's actually 13'6''. How he got under the 12'2 bridge is a miracle.I once took this route but I got off at exit 27. It's a good thing I had only a pup with me.I got lost in Brooklyn. Now I know you can go East o 278 through Brooklyn
THATS THE EAST RIVER YOU WENT ALONG SIDE OF MY FRIEND. THE HUDSON RIVER HAS ONE BRIDGE AND THATS THE ONE CAPT SULLENBERGER FLEW OVER THE GEO WASHINGTON. AFTER YOU PASEED HAMILTON YOU PASSED ATLANTIC AND CAME OUT THE TRENCH AND WOUND UP ON THE UPPER SHELF UNDER THE WHATS CALLED THE PROMANADE. AFTER THE CAMDEM PLAZA EXIT THE CREAM COLORED BUILDING ON TH LEFT USE TO BE THE WATCH TOWER BUILDING PRINTING PRESS NOW ITS CONDOS THE AREA IS CALLED DUMBO VERY EXPENSIVE THEN YOUR EAST RIVER BRIDGES.
@Buddy1306 Buddy is that your red Pete in the Chicken light and Chrome video and in this BQE video? Hway #3 dosen't bother anyone they know 13'6 trucks get parinoid and run the left lane because of the shelf height and postings. Are you with Landstar??
Very nice, was that Derek Jeter passing u on the right, n the van:-)?
U R a super, driver n that u r handling your business with the 18 wheeler and doing the video simultaneously. Most drivers don't have a clue as to how to do this safely, and to have fun doing it. Not even the Poalice.
Oh gawd,my head is starting to hurt. I'm so so glad I don't have to do this anymore. This clip is actually on a good day till you add in rain, fog, freezing mist,snow,ice,storms....
haha man i hate city driving. im 17 and dont have my class 1 yet but when i do i wanna be a trucker. all i can say is i feel sorry for the guys here in canada that have to pull doubles through rush hour traffic on the freeway. i take my hats off to them.
I used to pull 53' trailers out of Queens, Brooklyn and The Bronx on a regular basis. Glad those days are over. I never understood the appeal of that place. Just my opinion.
oh wow...loved this! and like how you panned over so we could see NYC! Awesome! I'm a Texas girl...the traffic is very similar to Houston or Dallas, bumper to bumper
Hey onetimemom my dad drives up in their time to time. He has a really nice Fld Freightliner with a huge sleeper. dont like it up their. to much traffic and low bridges...
Cool video!!! One correction, though: That is not the Hudson River you were driving alongside of. It is the East River. The Hudson is on the other side of Manhattan, between NY and New Jersey. You were passing alongside the end of the East River as it empties into the Upper New York Bay. I am a local NYC truck driver. I have been running the 5 Boros with a Mack day cab pulling a 45 footer for 26 years.
Driver you aint gonna believe this shit, last time I went through NY city it took me 3 days to cross the GW bridge into Jersey.I swore I'd never go there again and that was over 15 years ago never been back. LMAO !!
This is a cool video and gives a fair overview of what it's like to truck on through the city on any given day...Good music in the backround!!! Keep Truckin Brutha Truckah!
@terdburgler99 haha, same here, one day of driving my dodge cummins thru there and i was smokin my rear tires to get back down south to the country, i was slammin my brakes every mile and missed 4 turns that i needed to take.
Yikes - that would be a nightmare for me. I drove a 12'-6" high box truck around Long Island on occasion and never thought that I would not make it under the 12'-2" Brooklyn Bridge underpass. You got courage to drive that road. Even in my 4-wheeler, it's a challenge!
nice video i wonder why??? those sing say 12.2 or 12.9 high and u can go with 13.6 east like i do why the city don;t change those high ??? whyyyyyyyyyyyy ??
@TheBigRigDriver Thanks Roly, yea been looking for more current trucking music to listen to. Love the old tunes, too but like to here something new and different. Take care. C-YA!
Great video I've wanted to go to NYC forever . I can see how it would be confusing going there for the first time all the bridges saying 12-2 you wouldnt know where to go.
@barrett30 LOL! You are right......took me about 3 months of NYC every week before I felt like I kind of knew my way around....I tell you though, I'd rather drive NYC any day over Chicago. LOL!
i didn't notice a sign saying stay in the center. is that something dispatch would tell you? thanks for the response, i'm trying to get as much info on my new lifestyle choice as i can before i get out there. we had a guy locally here in nashville the other day on the news cuz he tried to get under an 11 ' 6" bridge, he said his GPS said he could go that way, i don't want to be that guy once i get out there...thanks again
@franktaylortn Yea, there is no sign because they give you several signs telling you to get off at exit 26 before you get that far. Alot of the signs are overated. I keep my CB antenna 2" taller than my traile and I use it for a "feeler guage". I know if my antenna clears an umfamiliar overpass, then my trailer will clear. Take care!
thanks for the video but i'm confused. one of the early signs said all trucks must exit at exit 27 but you and others kept going and then the one bridge said 12'2" and you went right under it. aren't you 13' 6"?? i am about to finish up school and will hopefully be out there. i'm not the kind of person to say no like so many do when they say NY but i know me and i'm sure i'll end up there.... thanks for the response
@franktaylortn Glad you liked the vid. Yep, good catch on the signs. If you continue on the BQE like we did, you have to make sure you stay in the center lane as you come down past the hudson.....get in the right lane and it can take your trailer roof off. That is why they post that. If you get off that exit the signs tell you, you end up on Atlantic Ave. with no signs to tell you what to do and drops you off in Brooklyn. Just stay in the center lane and go. And yes I am 13'6". Good luck! C-YA!
Thanks for the cool views, must be nice to drive a 379! Made me sad to see all those imports in New York though, they are so out of place. I guess Texas is one of the few states left where people actually have some pride when choosing which vehicle to buy...
Gotta love that traffic. i worked for a tow company that was authorized tow for that stretch of highway in your video for a few years. traffic jams day and night
i delivered to the sears in hicksville once, ever been their that place is horrible. backing under a building to a dock designed for a 28' is not fun.
@dcrooksjr Yep, you are right! Never been to Sears in Hicksville but have delivered to places around that area quite a bit. NYC is a very old town and definately not set up for tractor/trailers. Thanks for the reply and be safe out there!
@onetimemom lol OR doing that backing maneuver on teh blindside is not fun either. BUT i must say a GORGEOUS truck you are driving. any chance of a tour?
@onetimemom hey mom gota question when you first started out, say you came up to an underpass. ( going under a road overhad) did you duck as you drove under it?, i did. and occasionally still do 2.5 million miles later lol old habit. never did in nyc, cause never could trust the traffic
Thanks for the comments......I just wanted to give other drivers a little glimpse NYC just in case they may be going there for the first time. Alot of their bridges are over rated on the low clearance.....many you can get under....just have to know which ones!
thumbs up for GUITAR TOWN

i delivered to the sears in hicksville once, ever been their that place is horrible. backing under a building to a dock designed for a 28' is not fun.

@dcrooksjr Yep, you are right! Never been to Sears in Hicksville but have delivered to places around that area quite a bit. NYC is a very old town and definately not set up for tractor/trailers. Thanks for the reply and be safe out there!
